Great video I replaced a steering box and it was just as you showed. The cart I repaired had several headlights on the bumper so I left it on and worked around it. It took a bit longer but I didn’t want to disconnect all the wiring.
My golf cart will not turn left from time to time while moving. When you turn the steering wheel it makes a loud pop and doesn't turn. I believe it is a 2004 model but not for sure Should I replace the steering assembly?
@@golfcartking different subject, but im wanting to shorten the column by about 6 inches, what is the best way to do it? I thought just cut 6 inches out of the middle and weld back together....? Any idea would be concidered and appreciated
@@mrjones684 Due to this being a safety and liability issue, I can not recommend altering the steering. If you must, I can not recommend cutting and rewelding it back together ensuring that it is perfectly straight. with a good solid weld. The only other option is to take it to a machine shop and cut the column shaft and manufacturer a new column end.
Thanks for the video. Great step by instructions. Made it very simple!

A good how too, but what about the "Why"? How do I know when the steering box should be replaced?
You will know! these old boxes fail often and pretty expensive to replace. It starts off with a lot of slop in the wheel then total disaster.
Agree so if you have too much play in the wheel?
There is a hidden bolt next to the 3 steering column bolts. Possibly it was left out?
my cart steering rack , after reaching maximum left or right, skips, ie the steering wheel still turns. How to fix this?

what if its very hard to turn? not loose just takes all your muscle to turn the wheel?
The internal gears could be worn and are starting to bind.
Hi Can you do a video on a Yamaha cart steering box adjustment and/or replacement?
Does anybody know the torque specs for the two main bolts for the box? This thing is made out of aluminum and will strip easily
G 812 605 8685 is 3z

German torque: gutentight
@@cmccarthy I would normally agree but in this case it’s Chinese so it’s gonna break lol
Great videos will this steering box work on the Bad Boy Buggy about the same year
HOW DID YOU GET THE TIES RODS OUT! After taking off the castle nuts, the tie rods would not come out.
I have the same problem! They are practically welded in there!
Hit the plate with a hammer a few good hits... the shock will loosen the tie rods and fall right out. Don't hit the threads!!!
I know I'm late, but a pickle fork or ball joint tool works best. It's like a wedge
Why does it need to be replaced? Give examples..
Binding while driving, damaged during impact (wreck), excessive freeplay in steering
