Hi thank you for this video. I am 12 years old and Covid-19 has made the babysitting courses in my town to close down. I needed to know how to do CPR for worst case scenario.
OK just call 911 no matter what when she says it in the video to do five cycles of CPR and then call 911 she is wrong call 911 first and then do CPR no matter what!! If needed
@@trestinlindquist6078 no, for children and infants you do a set of CPR first if you're by yourself because the time it takes to call 911 and delay CPR lowers the chance of successful resuscitation. For adults, you can call 911 first if you are alone.
I’m only here because I’m 12 and I live with a 3 and 4 year old girls, they always put small objects in their mouth and I tell them to take out because they just hard headed. If I don’t see them putting it in their mouth and they end up choking, I will know how to do CPR. Thank you!!
I'd recommend that you check out choking videos in addition because if there's an object stuck, it'll prevent airflow and might make it worse. There's a couple extra steps if you think there's something blocking the airway, but you're a good older influence for thinking about them. ❤
This video was very well made, i'm only 10 years old and i'm looking forward to do volunteering when i grow up, however even before that i should know some stuff, so today i basically kind of looked up and tried the Heimlich Maneuvre (or whatever u call it) and CPR. Thank you!
Checking for pulse is unnecessary, your priority it to deliver oxygen to the brain so there will be the least damage posible. In newer CPR training checking for pulse is discarded due to it not having much purpose and also being tricky to spot
A few errors: 1) Pulse needs to be checked. CPR should only be only done if there is no breathing AND no pulse. If there is a pulse but no breathing, then you have to do what is called "rescue breaths". 2) Arms need to be straight. 3) Nose is pinched during the breaths, but has to be unpinched between each breath. You want to make sure that the victim can fully take in air. Honestly it's kind of irresponsible that a hospital channel has this kind of video up that doesn't take the proper steps....any CPR may be better than no CPR and one could still be protected under the Good Samaritan Act, but its extremely important to stay properly informed to save a life.
I thought the same thing until I realized there is a difference between Non-Provider CPR (First Aid CPR/AED) and Provider CPR (Basic Life Support). For people that do not provide hands-on patient care, they are not to check a pulse because they do not have anatomy & physiology training. Those that do provide hands-on patient care are to check the pulse.
@@aquiconlayuli there is a difference between provider cpr and lay person cpr. This is for lay people. The AHA does not recommend a pulse check for the layman as they can be difficult to find, compression time is wasted looking for one etc. This was taught correctly as the audience was not intended to be direct patient contact healthcare providers. This was intended for gym teachers, daycare workers, etc.
I was in a pediatric first aid course today in UK. Was told to give 5 breaths and not 2 for a child as their lungs have much higher capacity than an adult. Also was told to use one hand and not 2 like you'd use for an adult.
And how deep do you press on the chest just curious?? How many fingers do you use to press on their chess I get confused sometimes can you explain more. Thank you I will appreciate it I took a class on CPR It was so fast. I want to learn
30 compressions and 2 breaths. The depth should be no more than 2 inches deep. If they are a small child use one hand if bigger use two hands. Let chest recoil. Quality compressions are important to ensure adequate circulation. I hope this helps
That’s also an okay way to do it. If a child stops breathing it is likely because they have a respiratory failure and not a heart failure like an adult. Children do not have a higher lung capacity, it’s much smaller. You can use one or two hands depending on your preference, as long as you get deep enough and go fast enough. Both are okay. You’ve been taught a different but absolutely valid way to do child CPR and that’s okay. Follow your training or follow the instructions of a 911 (999) dispatcher should you be in that situation.
You begin with 5 compressions for any asphyxia, child or adult. As a child is more likely to be suffering an asphyxiation rather than a cardiac issue, we always start with the 5 rescue breaths, then the standard 30:2, compressions to breaths.
is it okay not to do ventilation? in case you feel uncomfortable or the patient may have a history of sickness that doesn't allow close mouth-to-mouth contact?
You should do it for both cases. If a person is breathing really weird, it means they’re probably going to stop breathing any second and they’ll need CPR anyway. It’s best to go ahead and begin to try and stay ahead of it.
With Agonal gasping and without you do cpr, it’s not normal breathing. Many people don’t start cpr with agonal breaths because they assume the person is breathing, but cpr is still needed.
If someone is still awake with an asthma attack, assist them with their inhaler or contact 911. For ANYONE who goes unresponsive or stops breathing from ANY reason, CPR is beneficial.
you do still press in the center of the chest like the person above me said. i have a small chest so someone correct me if i'm wrong, but i'm pretty sure if a big chested person is laying belly up on a hard flat surface their boobs will sort of naturally fall apart. boobs move a whole lot so they shouldn't get in the way i don't think lol
The breasts will fall to side. Place the heel of your hand between the breasts right on top of the flat breastbone. This is where you want to push hard and fast.
These videos fail to tell you how you will need to crack bones. That’s an important thing that you all should know, some people might crack the ribs then stop CPR because they fear doing damage.
twinkies withfluff_ she said that if you’re alone you have to give the cycles first then call. If you’re not alone you have to give a bystander the task of calling 911 while you perform cpr
@@NatteBOterham ok but why do you need to wait? call 911 on speaker and start the cycles because its best for help to arrive sooner than later, cpr can only do so much
You want to ensure they haven’t gone too long without fresh oxygen pumping through their body to avoid brain damage. This is especially important if you find a child who’s unresponsive cause you don’t know how long they haven’t been breathing.
No You can literally never do anything wrong in first aid, it's important to do SOMEthing No ribs are broken during CPR, the damage that could be made is made is little and will heal (you really need to lean yourself down on the person, you might hear a crack or pop the first time, DO NOT STOP performing CPR) You will not be accused of anything if you responded "wrong" to an emergency because there is nothing you can do wrong except doing nothing. Be sure to always call for help and stay calm!
@@khemikora right, my dad is a paramedic and he said when i was younger that you do end up breaking ribs I read that sometimes ribs do not break, but compared to rib breakage or damage, the seperation of the ribs and sternum are more likely. 30% of those who survive after CPR had broken ribs.
If someone is still breathing normally, just call 911. If you believe they are beginning to breathe abnormally, you are NEVER wrong for starting CPR. This will not kill the person and will actually cause just a small amount of damage that can be fixed later on. Always give CPR if you feel it necessary.
This is rubbish you always need to check if the kid has a pulse and arms should be straight while doing compressions and if it is a kid you should do compressions with one hand not two
You should spend only the first 10s for noting the pulse along with responsiveness and breathing the latter two are more important Unresponsiveness and absent or abnormal breathing are indicators of cpr irrescpective of the pulse Pulse is a poor indicator of cpr requirement and time shouldnt be wasted for that
