Kayaking the Missouri River can have a surprisingly relaxing and urban vibe. Kansas City Kayak and Canoe, local outfitters, offer a variety of trips ranging from one hour to a full day. They focus on the Missouri River but also offer group trips to the Platte River (in Platte County, Mo.) and the Kansas River. Could you SUP it?

That's a good question. The River is 10-20 feet deep depending on if you are in a navigation channel. I would caution safety first.

Yes, a lot of people use SUP's on the MO river, however given the long fetch (distance wind can build up), it can be very difficult in windy conditions. We don't believe it is nearly as beginner friendly though to SUP's, therefor we don't rent SUP's we will help transport experienced people who have their own SUP's.

    Looks so slow and boring.

To each his own I suppose! The nice thing about "slow and boring" is that it eliminates barriers to entry. The first time I went, there was a guy who had never even been in a kayak before. He struggled a bit. Toss him in a whitewater raft and he'd be toast. This is not a trip for high-adrenaline adventurers, unless you wanted to race against yourself to set a personal best. It's more of a Zen trip. There's gotta' be something for everyone.
