Dionne Warwick said she could never sing it again because it became Luther's signature song....she looked so proud watching him

Wow, his voice. The crowd can't even keep silent, they're spontaneously hooting and hollering through the whole thing. Not every performer can cause that kind of reaction. He's got so much soul, he's pouring his heart into it. Wow wow, wow. Is there anyone today that even comes close to having a voice that rich and soulful?

  • @celt67

The song was originally by Dionne Warwick (in the audience 0:30 ) back in 1963, but she says as soon as she heard Luther's version of the song, she knew it wasn't hers anymore.

Saw Luther back in the late 80's as a teen. Went to his concert as a family event with parents, my sister, and an aunt. The emotions I felt were indescribable. Our whole family was in tears. His voice was mezmerizing. To think that someone could sound even better live on stage than in studio recording...it was just amazing. It was the whole package-live musicians playing on stage and everything. Of course, back then, that was the norm anyway.

Luther just captivates the meaning of love and wording it in a way you will feel it inside, I tell you, I'm 63, I still cry and feel like it's the first time I hear it. Then it's his voice. Like satin, like nothing I ever could compare him to. I love your reactions, I think you're a sentimental young man and sincere in your reactions. Thank you for being you!!!

Did you know that David Bowie discovered and kicked off Luther’s musical career? David hired Luther as a backup singer on the Young Americans album.
There is an incredible track you must see that displays both their talents. Luther has said it was the hardest session because of the structure David had in his own head, but the end result is nothing short of obsession with the song.
    It’s called “Right”.
Find it! I promise you will not be disappointed! 💫⚡️🔥

There is almost no one that Luther Vandross did not sing background for . He also did a lot of arranging of the background vocals . He was a master at it. And if you ever went to his live concerts, the background singers were part of the show period they were so choreographed every move they made was part of the show every note they sang had a bodily movement that went with it period his shows were so glamorous, because the background singers were acting like such divas, it was almost done in cheek. So good. he actually had too early albums before his well-known first album period one under the name Luther, and "This Close to You. Both had some very good tracks.
