      Have you noticed that in all the anime and even in the movies, when someone draws and puts the sword back into the Saya, there's a metallic sound as if the Koiguchi or the Saya were made of iron, which isn't true. Putting a katana back into its saya makes a wooden noise at most. After that, I suppose it's all for show. But it's very misleading.

    • @DeusExMachina010101
      @DeusExMachina010101 Год назад

      Wow, I'm impressed by the sound your katana makes when it simply cuts through empty space. Mine does, but clearly not as loud.
      Maybe it's because the microphone is so close and the walls of the piece are so close, or maybe it's better technique (that's for sure :) ).
      I'll try again in a room smaller than my living room.

    Thanks, I was able to commission a katana recently and it's a little bit overbuilt. This video helped me immensely in knowing how to use it safely and effectively. I have about a Year's practice under my belt in European hand and a half sword but upon holding my katana for the first time I realized it was a completely different beast. This video I hope is the first step in a further education on this particular blade. I really love my sword and I couldn't be more proud to be in possession of it, to use it with respect instead of fear of accidentally chopping myself to pieces is a great relief and a huge justice towards katana itself. I have subscribed and I'm looking forward to more videos hopefully you give us some more training.

    #1: Why must it always be on the left side ? is it related to history or something about safety?
    #2: What stops me from being able to mirror what this video has taught me onto my right side? As a right handed person wouldn't I benefit from mirroring it onto my dominant side ?

    Menuki are the decorative additions to the Tsuka which give physical feeling of your Katana while you look at your enemy, you know where your hands are. Many swords have outstanding examples of art and craft. They also add to total quality of the sword, but not the quality of the blade. The blade is and always will be the value of the katana. Found an iaido and jodo school near me. Going to give it a try since I've wanted to learn this for a long time.

    Domo Arrigato Shogo San! Great video, BTW: everything you share here is consistent with my teacher. Question: what are your thoughts or suggestion on blade length? E.g. I am 173 cm. Love your videos!!

      Shogo San, can you answer my question about Sword length to train Iaido with Skinken? What are your thoughts, suggestions please on proper blade length? E.g. I am 173 cm. Thank you!

      @@Meymeygwis May depend on your arm length as well and your ability to stretch your chest to unsheathe a longer blade. Talking to the support service of a iaito seller might be a good idea.
