If there’s one thing Hollywood knows how to do is butcher an Irish accent
Let's do a quick run through here:
0:12 This film is based on a play called 'Outside Mullingar' and it was shot in Mayo, that's the Cliffs of Moher so not very accurate off the bat. It's also green but not that flipping green.
0:23 Christopher Walken's accent is bad. It's very very bad.
0:38 Jamie Dornan also has a very bad accent. In general and this film.
0:45 continuing the trend, Emily Blunt has a god awful accent. And what the hell is she wearing? She's dressed like she's from the early 1900s.
1:03 Nosey neighbour spying on people, now that's fairly accurate for a countryside community so fair play.
1:14 We do have modern cars in Ireland. They can even be electric, imagine that? Hertz at the airport don't normally have vintage Rolls Royce's stored in the back.
1:20 It does still exist, and it's a small gripe, but we don't use single pane glass here much anymore. Usually all double glazed. It gets cold and windy here, ya know.
1:24 Classic case of charming, sophisticated Yank coming to Ireland and making a fool out of inept, backwards Irishman.
1:42 The song 'Wild Mountain Thyme' is a Scottish folk song. Not Irish. But if you're confusing us both, we wouldn't mind claiming Lewis Capaldi and James McAvoy.
2:06 Lovely nod to the stereotype of Irish people's love for fighting

I think people asking why they didn't they just get Irish actors are missing the point, that would not save this film by the looks of it. When the hell is it supposed to be set!? It's completely ridiculous for far more than a few bad accents...
It's almost like the actors were directed to perform a begorrah Irish accent as a lampooning of the accent. Dornan is from the North and even with that he did a very credible Cork accent for his part as Commandant Pat Quinlan in the Seige of Jadotville...so we know he can do a contemporary Irish accent. Emily Blunt and Christopher Walken may have been directed to do a begorrah accent also as apparently that shtick sells in America. Ive been to the States and many people commented that I didn't speak with the accent they expected me to. I'm from Wexford and the accent is pretty flat here but still recognizibly Irish, but they thought we all speak in this sing songy diddly idle die...tones over here which is a Hollywood creation. I have a feeling the accents were hammed up to that level just for that audience. We all know Dornan can and has done a normal Irish accent very very well in the past.
Needs more cowbell
I thought this was a nightmare I had, but I got onto RUclips again today and it's still here.
I'm just glad it's not American actors butchering accents like it normally is. Blunt is English, Dornan is Northern Irish, and Walken is an alien from the Andromeda galaxy who has yet to figure out his own American accent. So that doesn't count.
Butchered regardless, might as well have been American.
Ders more to Oirland dan dis.
I just can't suspend my disbelief.
People here in Ireland are up in arms about the accents on display in this film, I've seen a couple of articles written for example, so I was expecting myself to be enraged. Having watched this trailer though I feel quite the opposite, I found it quite charming, perfectly delightful and I'm looking forward to getting to see it.
There's always one idiot in the village.
Good! I loved it! I’m American. But being from South Louisiana and raised on the bayou, I’ve seen pretty much every movie that tries to portray Cajun accents mess it up. It’s forgiven, however, especially if it’s a good movie. Just look past it and enjoy the characters, story and setting :)
@@bridgetfhelm Well I'm glad you enjoyed it.
I WAS LITERALLY THINKING I HAVEN'T SEEN JOHN HAMM LATELY WHEN I STARTED PLAYING THIS! that is so funny. I guess this is what he was up to.
Christopher Walken playing an Irishman?
Honestly his accent seems decent too! Speed it up abit and he's a well spoken Kerry man
This way, he can add more cowbell legitimately
In this economy?
Would you prefer DeNiro?
Christie O'Walken.
Looks great! Accents are all fine. They made a movie celebrating our tiny rainy island. I want to see it.
Is this a really long Irish Spring commercial? 😂🤣☘
BALLS! First off, the only believable Irish accent in this trailer is from an American! Secondly, I could name 20 IRISH actors who could fill these roles. PS. Jamie Dornan is the closest to Irish than any of the other actors in this. His accent is by far the worst! No. I will not be entertaining this.
What do you mean closest to irish? He literally is irish
Whose is the believable Irish accent?
@@TheKavo97 Not in this film he's not! Not even close sir! lolololol
@@nerdbot37 Walken (just about)
Jamie Dornan IS Irish
Our Father who art in heaven hallowed be thy name your kingdom come your will be done on earth as it is in heaven give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us and lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil amen
Thank Jaysus the cinemas are shut during lockdown! Easier to avoid that monstrosity... To be sure, to be sure...
Oh Jamie Dorman speaking Irish accent, that's the dream.
The yanks are at it again lads😂😂😂
