    FULL VIDEO!

    The Star Wars franchise is about to breach the artistic final frontier with a one-off performance of a kabuki adaptation starring one of Japan’s most revered stage actors.
    The classical Japanese theatre, which combines highly stylised movement and unusual vocalisation, will swap samurai swords for lightsabers and replace feudal warriors with the forces of light and darkness.
    Star Wars Kabuki-Rennosuke and the Three Light Sabers, which are being staged in Tokyo, will combine plots from each of the franchise’s latest trilogy, substituting plots drawn from the days of feudal clan rivalry with drama from a galaxy far, far away.
    Ichikawa Ebizo XI, Japan’s pre-eminent kabuki actor, will take to the stage as Kylo Ren, the conflicted son of Han Solo and Princess Leia, in front of 50 winners of an online lottery.
    www.theguardian.com/world/201...
    ============================================
    Plays consolidate plots from the blockbuster establishment and highlight Ichikawa Ebizo XI, chief star of the customary acting structure. The Star Wars establishment is going to break the imaginative last outskirts with an irregular presentation of a kabuki adjustment featuring one of Japan's most adored stage on-screen characters.
    The old-style Japanese theater, which consolidates profoundly stylized development and unordinary vocalization, will swap samurai swords for lightsabers and supplant medieval warriors with the powers of light and dimness.
    Star Wars Kabuki-Rennosuke and the Three Light Sabers, which are being organized in Tokyo, will consolidate plots from every one of the establishment's most recent set of three, substituting plots drawn from the times of medieval faction competition with the show from a universe far, far away.
    Ichikawa Ebizo XI, Japan's pre-prominent kabuki entertainer, will make that big appearance as Kylo Ren, the tangled child of Han Solo and Princess Leia, before 50 victors of an online lottery.
    Ten days after the Star Wars execution, the performing craftsmanship will meet anime and manga in a kabuki adjustment of Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind by the eminent Japanese chief Hayao Miyazaki.
    While the area of the Star Wars execution has been stayed discreet, the Japan office of Disney, which is creating the show, said fans would have the option to watch by means of a live stream.
    Thursday's presentation, which will happen a long time before the nine-section Star Wars adventure attracts to a nearby with the arrival of The Rise of Skywalker, is the most recent endeavor by kabuki to shake off its stuffy picture and open it up to a more extensive group of spectators.

      I agree, though I found a lot of the scenes were lacking dialogue, so it didn't too negatively impact the experience for me. It helped that it seemed to roughly follow the sequel trilogy. Still, subtitles for other languages would have added a nice layer to understanding this beautiful artform better.

    • @HarbingerOfBattle
      @HarbingerOfBattle 7 месяцев назад +3

      Most Kabuki plays cannot be subtitled because they are in an archaic dialect of Japanese that doesn't exist anymore. Not even the actors themselves know exactly what they are saying. It might sound vaguely familiar, but you can't make heads or tails from it. It's like reading a document that was written in English back in the 9th century.
      That being said, I wouldn't be surprised if this play's dialogue was written in contemporary Japanese. (I wouldn't know.)

    • @germaredipprnaar6264

    • @sadakotetsuwan9229
      @sadakotetsuwan9229 3 месяца назад +1

      @@HarbingerOfBattle Not exactly true--kabuki first came about in the 1600s in the Edo period (when Early Modern Japanese was spoken), so it's quite similar to modern English speaking audiences listening to Shakespeare. Also like Shakespeare, it was theater for the common masses--what now sounds elevated due to antiquity was really aimed at the common man in the streets of the city for their enjoyment. You may be thinking of Noh theater, which originated some 300 years earlier and was written in Middle Japanese (which is an older form of Japanese with different pronunciations and old grammar rules that have changed since the 1300s; it's much harder to understand without special education in the language of the time period).
      A lot of early Kabuki plays were adaptations of Noh dramas, but 'modernized' (for the time anyway) and performed with much more excitement throughout, including more dancing and sword fighting and, uh, talking, vs. Noh which features lots of walking sections. New kabuki plays have been composed and performed all the way up through the 21st century, just like this one. Though the Japanese is modern, it's still done in classic theatrical style so it 'feels' old, just like any modern English writer putting thees and thous into their writing 'feels' old timey but is still widely understood.
      So in short, Kabuki plays aren't usually subtitled (or supertitled in the theater) because it's not necessary for a contemporary Japanese audience, just like how we don't subtitle Shakespeare, not because it's impossible. Sure nobody speaks that way anymore, but we can still get it.

      And an ideology that executed great minds for creating actual defensive weapons during a defensive war
      And lack of manpower
      And very few actual places to drill for oil in the country
      But let me guess, if you were in power instead of hitler, we would all be speaking german now, wouldn't we?

    Okay this is pretty interesting, from what I've heard Red is supposed to be a color of good or hero, Blue is a color for someone with evil or mal intent. So I'm guessing our main guy in the black and red is Luke? Just interesting that they went for their original Kabuki color meanings rather than the colors that were given in the movies. Spectacular performance.

      hey. thanks for pointing that out. I was getting a bit confused thinking Luke was Darth as his colours was Red/Black.

    This is somehow beautiful, yet still weird, especially if you don't understand Japanese... otherwise this should be dance theater and it takes 10 minutes until it starts, additionally 5 minutes of some introduction and then after half an hour there is the first real dance scene and it's the 21st century and still all of the actors are men and boys, including the roles of the girls and women!
