She has the Mistress of Darkness thing down perfectly. I love her voice, more so now that it has matured than when she was younger. This was fun, and spooky, and different.

Her daughter is one of the ghost girls singing there along with her friends. They picked out the songs for Tarja to sing on the album
I think she plays only for the song _All I Want For Christmas Is You_
They spent a year practicing for the album.
Also not just Tarja but Finland as a whole approaches Christmas from a darker themed approach.
There are 12 tracks and videos for all of them, plus the BTS making of where you can see the set they filmed on.
There are guests on the album and videos,musicians, dancers, even a silks acrobat playing the part of an angel in Angels we have heard on high.
Briefly on piano under that hood was Naomi. Tarja learned piano from Kitee's only piano teacher. Thoumas' mother. You can see her play live on Circus Life concert on the last song Shadow Play.
This was released between October to November 2023. Her 2nd Dark themed Christmas album, her 3rd Christmas album overall and 19th solo album overall.
Prolific is a very apt description. As a result of 4 albums in one year she is mainly focusing on touring two weeks at a time and I would take it writing and arranging her new album pushed back until 2025 to be a hard rock/metal album following up 2018's In The Raw.
This album is great anytime of year but is a great antidote to over played Christmas muzak and 70 year old pop songs. Lovely though the classics are. My ears too need a break.
Thank you very much. Christmas associates with loneliness and alienation for me too, so that dark concept clicked with me instantly, as if someone said "It's ok, you don't need to be cheerful if you don't feel like it". And Tarja's Dark Christmas looks are stunning, let alone the music itself.

I listen to a lot of music, and for me this Dark Christmas album was an extremely positive surprise. Within the "hard rock" music genre that I mostly listen to, this album is among my top 5 favorite albums from the last 12 months. Of course it helps that I love Tarja and Nightwish since 90's.

Thanks a lot for the great reaction. I'm so glad you liked the dark side of Christmas music. I am sorry for the loss of your grandmother and friend. Christmas really isn't a joyous occasion for many people. Even though I don't have sad memories of Christmas, I don't like very happy Christmas songs either. I prefer the mystical atmosphere that Christmas brings. Jingle Bells is one of my favorite songs, along with O Holy Night.
When Tarja announced the release of this Dark Christmas album (the follow-up to her 2017 From Spirits and Ghost album) last year, it was a big surprise for me. The first Frosty the Snowman video was released on Halloween. I can listen to this album at any time of the year.
BTW: front and center in the children's choir is Tarja's daughter Naomi.

Great reaction! Tarja has put out a couple Dark Christmas collections. Holiday classics re-imagined and performed in unique, spooky, creepy covers. Well worth listening to them! Frosty the Snowman is pretty good.
