The Galaxy Watch 5 will be my first smartwatch and I'm very excited. A coworker has the Galaxy 2 and he let me wear it a bit, and I've watched every Galaxy Watch 5 video available before I decided to place my order. I enjoy hiking, yoga, hitting the gym, walking, etc., and the Galaxy Watch 5 will come in very handy. Christmas came early for me.

I still have the original Galaxy Watch (1st gen) because all successive Galaxy watches had worse battery life. This one still has worse battery life, but I might consider it because years of updates is starting to make the storage on my old watch a bit cramped. All I have installed is a handful of watch faces, and I'm using 3 out of 4 GB. It's insane.
I went from the 4 Classic to the 5 Pro. I know the processor and RAM are the same as the 4, but I feel like my 5 is more responsive and fluid. Battery life is back to what I was getting on the previous Tizen OS watches. While my 4 would end a typical day somewhere between 30 and 40%, the 5 is ending my days with 60-70% battery remaining. I also like the larger size as I have owned many larger (both in height and width) diving watches, so the larger 5 Pro size feels perfectly normal to me.
Did you restore a back up from the tizen watch? I've gone form the galaxy watch to the 5 pro and I'm getting 2.5 days so far (less than a week of usage so far)
@@mickgallagher9719 Bluetooth. My 4 Classic was LTE and I never felt the desire to really leave my phone behind, so I opted to just get the bluetooth version this time around.
I just want accessory companies to do more for Samsung like they do for Apple, so many options for the Apple watch but barely anything othe than bands for Samsungs.
Biggest issue is the battery life with these. I'm interested but think my Garmin style is good enough for me, 5 day battery life & does all the basics, but after it "dies" it can still be a physical watch for a week or two. Unlike most smart watches that just become black wrist paperweights
Smartwatches are still behind generally if they cannot consistently do something as basic as telling the time without a charge everyday. I would love to know more about your Garmin watch, it might be a good device to study for my personal project (I am also looking to venture into smartwatch manufacturing).
The apple watch sleep tracking is horrible for sure! I work night shifts and my apple watch tells me that I was asleep for 8 hours of my shift. I wish! 😅
I hope Samsung makes 'Smart Body + Body composition Scale' and link it to the body composition function of Galaxy Watch so that it can measure the weight and more accurate body composition!! They will be great supplement for each other lol
@@grifbean smoothness of menu scrolling, longer batter [3x i never turn screen off], the screen is higher rez and is large enough to see/red SMS pic messages. Biggest new thing is how big amd sharp the screen is to see multi media SMS. 4g and wifi work great. Never used it before. Definitely has paid off already.
The sleep tracking built into the Apple watch is indeed horrible...however, there are 3rdparty apps that can detect when you sleep automatically and tracks sleep states. I'm stunned Apple hasn't built this stuff into their own apps.
I may be a dreamer - but I really think these could take off substantially if you didn't need to charge them all the time. If you could go at least a week - I think that would be the sweet spot. Especially if you want the sleep tracking info regularly. By the way: you need to get more sleep. YIKES!
I'm honestly liking my Galaxy 5 a lot and I had my watch running pretty much all day yesterday into today and I still have about 19 hours left so the battery life is pretty damn good for an entire weekend

I have ever only owned two smart watches...the Samsung Gear S3 Frontier, which still works to this day and the more recent Garmin Instinct. I'm wondering if it is time to own a galaxy watch. I haven't been keeping up with smart watches and was surprised to learn that the Gear series is no more.
What kind of harsh work conditions are they making you undertake at Engadget that you go to sleep at 1:30am and immediately have to get back up at 4:30am?

I have a Galaxy watch frontier. I have had it for 4 yrs and it works as good as the first day I bought it. These things last a looooooong time.far better then apple
@Bolt electric⚡️ well you can believe what you want but I still have it and I'm telling you that Galaxy frontier watch is just as good as new, does everything I need it to do from the beginning when I first got it. It has several updates, heart rate readings etc. With Apple especially their cell phones you get the same model year after year and the only thing that is upgraded is the color of the phone and let's not get started on the watches 😂 no wireless charging, no multitasking, no innovation of the cell phone models or the watches, and they make sure those cell phones malfunction after a year to force you to get the newer model. I know people that switch to Apple and its products of the watches and they can't stand it but because they are in contract with their cell phone provider they have to bear it. They only got the Apple products because they switch carriers and it was a big discount for getting them.
SAME! I feel like the physical bezel is something those of us who loved it miss, and it’s kinda like a phantom itch by now. It’s probably just that it was a great fidget spinner haha. Functionally i think a rotating dial/knob can be just as useful.

Great review. I had the four but the screen went bad. I bought the five but sad to say it is a battery guzzler. I hope as I recharge it several times it will get better (wake up sort of)

The company removed the physical rotating bezel a long time ago when they made the touch bezel and the switch to being a touch bezel was the best thing they ever chose to do.
Samsung: you would not have gotten my dollars today without letting me replace long-press Bixby with Assistant. That was a make or break feature for me. Finally, and thank you. (Yes I realize they aren't actually reading this :)

Might even be the best smartphone out there. Still don't know why so many is satisfied with apple product. They have so few models while Android has so many different versions.
I don't really care about sleep tracking. I'm never on a normal sleep pattern. If I sleep around 1pm, my watch will vibrate telling me to move or inactive for more than an hour. But that's my bedtime sometimes. My current watch does not track my steps if I'm holding something large or pushing a wheelchair. I have to actively swing my arms. Does this new watch actually track movements without swinging my arms around?
They don't allow us to use phones at my work and time keeping is fairly important to me. A $20 - $100 watch would do just fine for time purposes, but I enjoy the added bonus of my Samsung watch being tied to my phone. If you specifically mountain climb or specifically swim laps I'm sure there's better technology out there than a mainstream consumer product, but for an average Joe like me things like workout tracking is simply a bonus that I may or may not use. I think it's definitely a bigger entry fee for first time buyers, since you can sell on eBay or trade in to Samsung your last gen watches. I paid about $160 for my 5 because I traded in my 3, but I paid about $400 for the 3 when I got it years ago.
Looks like I am keeping my Samsung Gear S3 Frontier. I like my rotating bezel and the underside is flat - no marks and comfortable. It links to my Nokia Smart Scale and fitness apps. I'm still not seeing anything I NEED to upgrade for ... and I like the chunky look of the older one and not this girls looking sports watch it's now morphed into.
I haven't owned a smart watch before. But I have watched tons of videos about the galaxy watchs. 90% or more said GW4 can barely survive a day. So how yours can do two and half👏🏻👏🏻. And if you have super special way to get that done, I guess the GW5 pro can last a month with you😅. Am just to trying to decide what to get so if you can tell me more.

People overlook the Bluetooth 5.2 on the Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 Pro over the 5.0 on the Samsung Galaxy Watch 4. I use to get allot of disconnects from the 4 but on the 5 I have not had a single disconnect. Just my two cents.

Hey does anyone know if there are differences in battery life between the Bluetooth and LTE models (on the pro). I currently don't really need the LTE model but I thought it might be worth it to spend the extra money to have access to that feature in case I want to connect it to my plan in the future. I know in years past the LTE versions of watches typically had poorer battery life even when just using it on Bluetooth mode. Is this true for this interation?

I still mine as well. I loved it, but it was a bit bulky for my small arms compared to the watches now.

I think removing the rotating bevel was simply done because it's a moving part that can fail or get grit between it and the watch

I LOVE tech. Hardware, software, all of it. But….smart watches for me are just as unappealing and unnecessary as a smart refrigerator.

Not releasing a Galaxy watch 5 pro classic with a mechanical bezel was a huge disappointment, its what made it stand out from Apple watches.
Make a watch that do video calling I can't wait for that I hope samsung see my post we need that as the people.......that part

The 4 I have often will not do functions without over-tightening.

If you get the smaller Size then yes. My watch 4 and 4 classic gives me 2 to 2.5 days

I am having problems with ECG trying to download Samsung Health. i talked to Samsung and they told me the ECG only works with Samsung phones. Has anyone gotten the ECG to work with non Samsung Android phones
Terrible of Samsung to not allow us to download that app on non-Samsung phones. it's ridiculous considering it's Android and completely doable.

Hey does anyone know if there are differences in battery life between the Bluetooth and LTE models (on the pro). I currently don't really need the LTE model but I thought it might be worth it to spend the extra money to have access to that feature in case I want to connect it to my plan in the future. I know in years past the LTE versions of watches typically had poorer battery life even when just using it on Bluetooth mode. Is this true for this interation?
