@@prrhorseshoecurve you have not seen the current HO and N scale stuff. We are now to the point where you can do the same things in HO or N that you can do in O.
Excellent Jason, I am a major fan of long trains. My problem is being retired and getting back into the model train world is a lot more expensive than I can afford. But what I do have put together is more than enough to make my 7 y/o granddaughter very happy. Just an aside, I still have my original Lionel train given to me by my parents back in the mid-1950's. And it still runs great and I would bet you a 2 liter bottle of soda that it could pull all 54 coal cars! Enjoy your summer, I am looking forward to seeing your 2024 Christmas layout. Jason I remember that promo MTH video and even before I bought my first Lionel. I quickly purchased an MTH R-T-R starter set as my first purchase. To me, MTH still gives you the best bang for your buck in what you get for lets say $400-500. Even today, Lionel does not even come close, even with their newer Lion Chief Plus models. You have an awesome and impressive layout! Cheers!
Fantastic video Jason! The nostalgia callbacks were excellent and plentiful, that 98 product video is one of my favorites as well, excellent collection showcase and homage!
That was really spectacular! My record was 65 cars of mixed types, including some K-Line diecast hoppers! It fit on my longest loop, but the locomotive had only about five car lengths spacing behind the caboose!
Great video Jason! I was especially surprised to see that SW switcher, right out of the box, do it's job so well. But, it is also a testament to you for the meticulous track laying you've undertaken. You gotta' have good trackwork! And I believe AtlasO gives you that peace of mind. Thanks for the entertaining update! And are you still on the hunt for Conrail Diesels? -Don
@JDStucks Good afternoon, Jason. I've got a Conrail SD80Mac in PS3, that might be a great addition to your roster. It is a factory unit I found . If possible and if you're interested, photos can be sent to you.
You just gave me a reason to unbox a 6 car set of NS Coalporters I recently got. Will add them to all of the other coal sets I have to see if they'll fit on my largest loop. Will post vid on my channel when I get them running. Perhaps a Lionel Greenbrier vs MTH for head of consist? Great video and good progress on layout. O-scale fun at its finest.
That promo video made me fall in love with MTH and even though I am in HO and N nowadays I still go back to that video every now and then. And with Scale Trains acquiring the MTH HO tooling and NCE having the same design as the MTH DCS I can say MTH is still with me in a smaller scale.
Having some fun now huh!!! I don't know.....maybe just one more car and it would have been alot more fun LOL LOL Good to see you and your vids again. Great work!!!
Great to see all those coal cars! 😊 When I got back in the hobby, I promised myself not to get more than 10 of each type of rolling stock - that went out the window real fast! I have more than 10 locomotives but nowhere near what you have.
MTH cars are some of the free rolling cars on the market which means they're VERY light on the drawbar. I've used about 15 rapid discharge hoppers along with my 10 die-cast lionel 100 ton hoppers which I've recently sold. The whole 15 car train weighed less in terms of lateral pulling thank 3 of them die-cast hoppers. And I lubricated the crud outta them metal.things too lol. I wish MTH would do more scale steam era freight cars, specifically reefers. And I wish they'd sell em cheaper so I could get 100+ of em together and run em in a unit train or in a long maxed manifest drag freight.
Twin motors, die-cast metal fuel tank, truck sideframes and truck blocks below the floor, and traction tires. Most O-gauge diesels have them. And the modern steam engines are wholly die-cast metal. The MTH Big Boy in the video weighs about 20 pounds.
When I was working at the railroad we built a couple trains out of Bedford Park (southwest side of Chicago) right next to BRC Clearing yard that were 15000'+. Had to use cell phones because the hand held radios couldn't reach the head end. Just curious, do all the locomotives in O scale have a lot swinging pilot? That one detail turns me away. Rolling stock and engines are looking less toylike but the snowplow swinging with truck kills it for me.
If you order scale wheel versions from MTH, the pilot is fixed. Lionel also does a semi-fixed pilot on some of their high end diesels. I understand your disdain for it.
Hey J.D. This is my first time watching your channel. I must say I really enjoyed watching it. But I have a question. Things were going smoothly. Then I decided to cross the train over to the inside mainline track, forgetting that the inside curves would be shorter than the outside curves. The caboose crossed over with just six inches to spare in front of the locomotives. That was the longest trains I've run, but a few years ago when I got my onboard camera for the layout, I ran the second longest train, which is how I got this video. ruclips.net/video/EkFBuuIqpi8/видео.html
