Now this, THIS is what I remember from my early gaming days. Up til now I'v settled with the Amiga version and then read "somthing somthing something pc version" and here I am. It's like an itch that's been impossible to get had finally been scratched!
Still fun to play: I actually tried it with someone who wasn't even born when the game come out and we had lots of fun. Now she also got those songs stuck on her head and loves them!
The switch from pc speaker to sound card, that's the thing you had to do back then to be blown away! I remember recording these tracks to a C-cassette and gave it as a birthday present to a friend. Oh the memory lane! :) Sound Blaster 16 ASP
Man, this surely takes me down memory lane, since Lotus III on a SB 1.0 (or 1.5) was one of my first exposures to non-SID PC music, and I loved it. Esp. tracks 3 or 4, but not my favs are 2 and 5, while 3 is still cool. Btw. does anyone have the MIDI files of these tracks? I'd love to get my hands on them, since I can't reproduce this by hearing it alone. :( Thanks in advance, and thanks, Vesionv, for posting this.
Actually this is not exactly what i remember from my old days. Pretty close, there are moments when i jump up and feel like WOW this is EXACTLY what i remember, but emulation either has a certain fault or my hearing was very different 30 years ago. But i often hear certain instruments or trebbles muuuuuch to silent. Other than that fantastic ! Best example for what i describe above is the first track. It starts at 0:17 and builds up the drums and background until (i think) around 0:37 the actual "voice" of the song appears. But it's incredibly silent. The bass and drums are far more prominent. That's the fault in emulation i do not remember the real SB being like that.
I stick to the old Amiga version any day, this one's missing a bit of the harsh blast and a bit more refined differenc ein instruments that the tracks had. This one here's so notably digital :D
one of the best in its genre, it's amazing how progress has gone in inrah over the past 25 years, just one generation. Now it is a complete and absolute old school, which in a sense, and its charm. By the way, my son also loves to play this game, and has repeatedly seen teenagers or younger ones play it. The game, if not for the graphics itself, is very exciting.
Soundblaster version is by far the best! But track 2(SB) is sadly no where to be found, would love to play this outloud on my stereo without having to get the old AST-laptop and start dos up and everything..
Haha... 0.75 speed sounds quite like on my old good PC when I was a child. (Or my brain just experienced the world with super high sample rate back then)
Who rembers the tracks Fall Winds i can remver fucking trees lol. Those tracks are awesome. Many good epic titles in early game times rember command and conquer and turrican is for me best game Musik
While I did grow up playing the PC version, I must say that man, it's amazing how terrible the SB sounds compared to PAULA on the Amiga. And this is a late game, 1992, I don't see any reason why MOD files should'nt've been possible to program into the DOS version. Maybe I'm misremembering and the PC did have MOD files too but yeah... Also, I don't think the Soundblaster is utilised particularly well as it definitely can sound better than this. - anyway, rant over, I still love this soundtrack no matter the iteration, be it PAULA, Sound Blaster, and yes, I might even give the PC speaker the benefit of the doubt.
@@Choknuty I just went through the various soundtracks on PC and well, your opinion is your opinion and I won't take that from you but imho, all the PC versions are just lacking something, be it depth or fullness or something. The MT-32 version included. Which is so weird because in 1992, the Amiga's PAULA chip was 7 years old. So something weird is going on here because by 1992 PCs were more than capable of playing MOD files, and MIDI files can certainly sound much better than this. I dunno, just something amiss here.
@@weepingscorpion8739 for me it was history in the making too) There's nothing strange that mod players wasn't spread so widely - i played Lotus iii ultimate on my 386sx25, and fps was low enough - it wasn't capable of playing high-quality mod tracks at the same time. Well, but... In perfectly optimised Jazzy rhe Jackrabbit there's wonderful mod music. Maybe there wasn't enough money or a goodwill for pc version of Lotus))) I love PC SB version much more still. Sorry for poor english.
Fuck, this sounds so shitty. I can't remember how my A500 was pushing sound of her body but I now that WinUAE does it much better. Maybe it is only because SB (wrong) config.
I got an Amiga back in the 90's(still in use) and, as sad as it is, I have to admit that this sounds better. I still prefer the Amiga tracks though but technical this is just the better sound. If they would have used the same samples you would understand much better what I mean.
Michael Sykes I know what you mean. I heard Turrican 2 PC version soundtrack on Sound Blaster 16 sound card on the same samples as in Amiga version and this really sounds better.
Amiga was using 22khz/8bit and with some tricks they managed to use 7 voices in Turrican 2 and 3. Soundblasters used 44khz/16bit 32+ voices. So even from a technical point of view it should sound better... If you can get the original Amiga TFMX files from Turrican and play them on a PC using a tool calld DeliPlayer2 they sound a lot better than on the original hardware.
I love how you let us taste the PC beeper version at the start to make us fully appreciate the delight that comes afterwards :)
Haha, that touch of PC speaker at the beginning was adorable... oh, memories.

Track 2 was my favourite

I love Lotus 3 so much. My fav track is Track 1
Second track is the best, I listen to it for a few times in a row every day :D
Aww it wasn't PC Speaker after all..
Another suggestion for you listeners: look for Wacky Wheels soundtrack!
Although the Amiga version is technically superior, I prefer the PC/DOS (the one in the video) version of the music.
My favourite is the live version: ruclips.net/video/loOddKqqEUU/видео.html

Arrroooooo, now I'm curious about how this would sound through an AWE32.

Im not sure i would say the Amiga is the best here, The PC is definitely giving it a run for its money. Both sound amazing imo.

I disagree. Amiga and PC SB just sounds different. Amiga version is much more kiddish for me.

Amiga is so Far away from pc at sounds

haha
Can't believe how much better the amiga sound was than this
Sounds good but I think on Amiga sounds better.

Michael Sykes amiga 28 khz not 22 :).and with ecs chipset is capable of 56 khz and 14 bit sound without sound card .
Albert Fuentes I know. But not in LotusIII.
