    Yeah, can't imagine a ninja thinking "Damn, I need a saw, but I can't take it with me, because traditional six tools don't include it..."
    Great video, thanks!

    Sounds familiar...
    The 5 C's of Survival
    Cutting: Fixed blade knives, multitools, axes, and saws all fall under this category.
    Combustion: Firemaking tools and tinder.
    Cover: Tarps, ponchos, and tents.
    Container: Metal bottles are preferred in this category.
    Cordage: Any type of heavy-duty or multi-purpose string.

    Reminds me of the German saying or question "Hast du deine sieben Sachen beisammen?" "Do you have your seven things together?". It is said, for instance, when you are ready to leave and want to know if the other person is ready too. Doesn't mean it's actual seven things. It means all things. Not sure where that originates from, but it's a similar concept.

      Likely from 7 things. lol Today it would be 1. keys, 2. wallet, 3. cell phone; and extended to some. 4, watch, 5. knife/gun, 6 flashlight.

    it's funny how much bushcraft has the same type of tools for wilderness survival in modern times as the ninja 400yrs ago bring a hat some rope, tools for gathering resources, some chalk to right stuff down in a journal, a tarp. finally if going out for long hikes to bring food that lasts a while. the kicker just like in hitchhikers guide to the galaxy never leave home without your towel.

      The Scottish had the kilt, which is an 8 yard (or so) wool blanket.
      The longhunters and such used a roled up wool blanket as a bag, along with a side bag for provisions, and a knapsack for tools and such.
      I've tried modern methods and I prefer the old methods, though I do have a small day tactical bag for my knapsack and pouches on a battlebelt for what would be in a side bag (aka Haversack)

      It is not funny at all, the woods have not changed. The nature of the tools have changed though: few people bring a candle, they bring a flashlight; they bring a cell phone or Rite-in-the-Rain notebook, not a stone pencil.

    I also greatly enjoyed the video on the six tools Ant. That makes so much sense how they would interchange equipment depending on the need and availability but also for what was practical to carry and use, because you may use all of it and as ou said it would then just weigh down. This is a mega find. Mint!

    Great breakdown Anthony! 6 is completion. Refer to the 6 sided hexagram,the Sri yantra. There are 6 points of a man's body. The number 6( 3 protons, 3 electrons), the number of the beast which is the number of man in the book of Revelation. 6 stages from life to death, etc.

    Whats your opinion on the 18 skills/weapons of war? Ive seem like a dozen versions... The "ninja ones" that they "teach in bujinkan"... The 18 weapons of wushu... And the sib pal gi/ sipalki from korea...
    Is there something like that in natori ryu or other real samurai schools?

    So you mean to tell me that the shinobi had these tools (at the beginning there's a book showcasing tools, I assume that's what we're talking about) but DID NOT learn some kind of hand-to-hand combat system in addition to a weapon system(s)? I'm not trying to start an argument guys, just hear me out, just trying to put two and two together as I'm confused. In my opinion the shinobi had to have learned combat systems (empty handed or armed) because of the type of work they did. Saying that something does not exist (this is a general statement) just because there's no historical evidence of it is extreme to me. There could be reasons why it wasn't written down or passed down, or maybe it was but only through families of the shinobi themselves and those people had VERY select students as well as many other reasons. I'm not saying that the shinobi doing hand-to-hand and armed combat is ninjutsu, I'm saying they had to have learned those two skills in ADDITION to all the other stuff because of the work they did. You authored a book on the shoninki which details shinobi stuff but yet you (and others) say there's no way the shinobi had a system of martial arts? Bruh...

    • @AntonyCummins
      @AntonyCummins  5 лет назад +7

      Of course they did. they studied the arts of their family or other combat schools, same as everyone else. No mystery. The shinobi had no system of hand to hand combat that was called ninjutsu. they just used Japanese fighting styles that were open to them. there is ZERO proof of any specialized form of hand to hand combat known as ninjutsu. I think you are misunderstanding the point. I hope that helps.

    • @southernknight9983
      @southernknight9983 5 лет назад

      As with nearly all martial arts, they are handed down from teacher to student. It does no good to write them down, as you must experience the effects for yourself, where no book can ever do. This is why survival of the teachers were important, so that the art may continue to be taught to more students. For ninjutsu, secrecy is it's mainstay for survival, much like freemasonry and wicca, for two other examples.
      You will know a real master when you find one and know that the techniques are unparalleled in surprise and concealment.
      Godspeed!

      Antony Cummins ah ok I see, so you aren’t saying they didn’t have combat systems, you’re just saying it’s wrong to call that part of their training Ninjutsu. Got it

      Incubus you are very very correct lol. Do not listen to nonsense when your critical thinking tells you otherwise. Of course martial arts were taught to some spies.think of it like a field agent versus a desk agent . Some would need training in martial arts, others wouldn’t. If you needed the best you would definitely have martial arts as a prerequisite before hiring a ninja. The idea that their would be a public ninja school though is nonsensical. As ninjas work by definition is seditious, covert, and available for hire. Which would coincidentally be your exact reason for not writing it all down, or protecting it at all costs. As being found out to be a ninja had a similar price to pay for being outed as a 🕵️‍♂️
