In the middle of a build, bandsaw belt died, 1 week before new one arrives. Had to cut my scarf joint, found your sled/jig video. Built me one, cut my scarf joint. Think I found me a new and better method. Thank you for your efforts. The best part is I didn't need a shop full of tools and hardware to do it.

I've been looking for something for cutting scarf joints for so long, I'd almost given up until this video. Every single video is just trying to solve a problem that doesn't exist, which is making a simple jig. Everyone goes so convoluted (one cat was cutting with the neck blank straight down and angling his blade to the desired degree!) glad to see not everyone thinks they need to reinvent the wheel.
And to be fair, I was making a mountain out of a molehill!

Thanks a million. This is exactly what I needed to know. I want to try to build my own short scale CBG with a scarf joint and having the jig looks like it would work very nicely. I did not want to have to free hand it if I could find another option. Thank you for sharing your knowledge. I appreciate it very much.

Great video, easy to follow. I build small wooden boats and am always looking for a new method to help with scarf joints.

Thanks for the video, I need to make one of these. It looks like you drew the angles from the front corner of the sled rather than from the pivot point. With the angles drawn from the pivot screw, I'll match the angle lines to a line drawn down the middle of the butt end of the fence. Either sled will produce repeatable results, but one will more likely produce the expected angle.

I built one today using this concept. I didn't make mine adjustable. Set it for 14 degrees. I added a hold down clamp on the 2 x 2 to hold the 1 x 2 in place without needed separate clamps. Works well in tests. Will try it tomorrow as I embark on my first CBG build.

I'm sold before you started when you showed the head stock piece of the guitar. Very nice job on that by the way! It's too short to be a guitar neck though..what were you making? It looks like it's going to be beautiful. Will you be showing the final piece? I love woodworking too. Just mentioned to someone, I should take a wood turning class to make wooden plates which would be nice for camping. (Like I need another hobby! lol) I can see you take pride in your work, wanting everything perfect, definitely as it should be. Enjoyed the lesson, looks like something interesting to use. Will pass this along to family also. Thanks L :)

Thanks! The neck was from a mandolin I made for a friend a few years ago. That particular neck didn’t make the cut, but mandolin turned out great.

What I like about this; You can "plane" (grind it off with a router, or whatever method you want) a headstock sized area on one end of the board, then scarf it off.

Asking, what is the length of the cut in relation with wood dimension?
