you know this review is not that good honestly. I mean first of all she didn't even admire any of the good things really about this game. She did say that the scenery was good which I love about that game, The killing of zombies in this game is very good and I'm also glad they improved guns, she never mentioned anything about that. The dislikes she had about the game were unfair to me, I mean the fetch quests are actually pretty realistic, if someone asked you to do something in a zombie apocalypse it probably would be about getting something small, just like in the walking dead show series that girl asked the governor to get that air tank for the old guy. Also I didn't think that the story was predictable or dull at all really. The story had a good ending and there was some things that I didn't expect. the balancing issues could use a little work I agree but not much. The technical problems, there was a decent amount of them. Like when the zombies die there face changes almost completely, when the characters talk it doesn't look right, etc. When you get hurt by the bodys being on fire or being shocked I didn't think that was bad though, its actually pretty realistic if you think about it. Also I thought they did a good job on making the game dramatic, same in the first dead island. Overall I think this game deserves 3.5 - 4 stars, not 2.

I saw the new Sessler's Something before watching this, and when I saw Dead Island Riptide as the sponsor for that video I began thinking that the review for the game would be overly favorable, glad to see you didn't sell out and gave it a well deserved critique.

I love both Dead Island and Riptide equally. Riptide was never meant to be something totally new and different from the original, so I have a hard time understanding why so many reviewers keep nitpicking on this point. It's simply a hybrid of an expansion and a sequel to the original game, and no one is supposed to play it until after they've finished the original one first. Because if you did that, the continuation of the story as it's presented in Riptide would make very little sense, assuming you care anything about the story, because, as the reviewer here pointed out, it does pick up directly where the last one left off at a cliffhanger. So you should play the first one first, obviously. It's not a perfect game, it does have some bugs, especially on the PC, but what game doesn't? I find that I have less trouble running this game than I do with other PC games I also love.
The main point I want to make is this is the best zombie game franchise I have found for me, because you can play it either solo or cop-op with friends, I think the mechanics and physics are more realistic than most other zombie games, and the graphics are pretty good even on low-end machines. Plus it has a class system, XP gain leveling, skill tree points, and weapons crafting/modification to further customize your character, as well as a main quest line and optional side quests to do, which you can do together with your friends and not just in single-player mode. To modify your weapons you need to harvest materials from the environment and enemies' bodies, and find recipe scrolls or "blueprints" to use at the workbenches. Most importantly, it is a true open-world game where you are free to explore the overland environments and "dungeon" zones and search for things to do outside the main quest-line at will. In short, it has many important features of an RPG incorporated into a FPS zombie game, and that makes a wonderful combination for me to enjoy this game for hours and hours on end.

It happens, some people just don't experience any issues when playing certain games while others do.
    For example:
Me and a buddy decide to play Dead Island today and he claims he's never experienced any issues whatsoever with it.
10 minutes into our co-op play session he glitches through the map.
Just falls right through the beach.
We weren't doing anything special mind you, we literally just started from chapter one as new characters.
As for COD getting perfect scores, I've never seen this.

In the first dead island, when you had to upgrade your weapons with blueprints, it showed all the ingredients needed to make it, but not how many of them you had.

I love them both. Riptide is yeah almost exactly like the first. But its more of what I love! The feeling of constant anxiety. Cautious of every corner, every body, every room. Always looking over my shoulder. And despite that no matter how careful you are. No matter how strategic you are. Something you never suspected is gonna happen and both scare the shit out of you and amaze. And that always makes every headshot, every limb taken, and every knockdown that much more exhilarating.

yeah, a bit, but instead of just being set in london, you should get to travel to various parts of the country - it could start in bournemouth, as that would relate more to the other entries to the series, and you could travel to london, the lake district (which would be amazing) the industrial north, scotland, the potential is certainly there.

I bought it at full price on day 1 and I'm enjoying it. Like you, I loved the original Dead Island too. There are a lot of small changes that make the game more fun and add extra depth to combat, crafting/modding etc, but the same structure is still there from the original and I think that's a good thing. Too often game devs change too much and you end up with a sequel that's too different from the much loved original. If you wait until it's cheaper it will be better value though; I usually do.

I love how some people complain that not much has changed with Dead Island, but they're totally okay with not much changing with COD, and still calling it an amazing (sometimes perfect) game.
I mean, COD has had the same engine since Modern Warfare. I am personally looking forward to playing the new Dead Island.

Maybe I will reconsider it then, I will still wait for a sale but hearing that it's still the basic design with just a few new features really catches my attention. The only reason I stopped playing the first Dead Island was because I finished it completely, even all the trophies. Yea after reading your comment and a few others I'm starting to think that it's better than the original lol.

That's why their called "infected" instead of zombies. They don't use zombies because 1 shot to the head IS too easy, infected can be shot anywhere, but still be standing for a while until they finale drop, they even mutate, so they become harder to kill. There's a HUGE difference between the two!

Hey. For those that just can't get enough zombies and are going to have fun with this regardless, go knock yourselves out. Just because it's a 2/5 game doesn't mean you won't have fun with it. But don't fight the review. This is probably the best Tara one I've seen, and the score is very fair.

  • @Masamaki21

The problem is not Dead Island and Riptide being the same.
The problem is Riptide suffering from the same problems that Dead Island suffered from.
    I wouldn't call what's occurring, "bashing".
I'd call it "giving valid complaints".
Pointing out technical issues and balancing problems is important.
These are things to take in consideration when purchasing a video game.
I'm pretty sure consumers want to know these things.

I already decided to buy this game when I first heard about it and purchased it before I read/saw any reviews and I think it's a very fun and quite addictive game. I don't understand the hate for Riptide and I think the game has kept all the best bits from the original and expanded on them well. It's basically a Dead Island Part 2 and I'm very happy with that!

Agreed. I loved the original and I'm 22% of my way through my first playthrough of Riptide atm and I'm really enjoying it. You know a game is good when you play it until you're tired and look forward to playing the the next day. Story's are OK in games, but they're mostly for books and movies. Game's need good gameplay and the Dead Island games have that. I'd rather have a crappy, cliche story, but great, fun gameplay in a game any day!

thank you for your reply and i am sorry if i seemed hostile i know there are a little to many fetch quests in riptide but what i ment was fetch quests are a part of rpg games like in skyrim one of the fetch quests is to retrive a sword from an out of the way bandit camp and you dont always have to do the fetch quests most are just for easy cash and exp. for players who need it and these are mostly never ending thank you for the polite response and thank you for thanking my argument was valied

I doubt the developers wanted gamers to "take this game seriously." The combat is practically over-the-top. It's all about gathering up 3 friends and going to town on zombies. If you liked the first game, you'll like this too. It's a 3/5 without question. This reviewer is being a bit harsh with this game; there's a good amount of polish and the 20hrs I've played has been almost entirely smooth. Fun to be had here if you're not jaded.

I gave up on this game after a game breaking bug was found two hours in. I was doing the boat mission to get it back to the other survivors and I went into deep water to open a case. If you saw the an ad for Riptide on their recent vids or at the start of this review it doesn't necessarily mean the publisher is sponsoring Rev3Games. What is most likely happening is the publisher pays youtube for ad space and youtube uses some hard to find metrics that put ads in videos and channels that match the subject matter. Watch any channel that covers news in an election year all the ads become political propaganda for the highest bidder regardless of the channels political views.

I'm a little sad that the game seems to make little to no improvements over the last, I was genuinely looking forward to playing a fixed version of Dead Island but I think I will pass this time. One thing I should point out: your issue with seeing waypoints on one minimap is because both players need to select the same quest from the menu. This was the case in the original, and took me a while to figure out without help. This is so each player can do their own quests to finish the game faster.

This is one of those games that tends to be more fun than it is good, at least the original was. It was janky as hell, but that was part of the charm. It's kind of a bummer that they didn't just throw out the whole "degrading weapons" angle altogether, but I'm still excited to play through this with 2-3 friends.

Actually, I do own Dead Island. I bought into the hype on release day, and haven't been more disappointed with a release since Dragon Age 2. Five hours in, I gave up, due to clunky controls, horrible glitchiness, and the game just not being fun. My friend was in the same boat with me.

I really do hate that phrase.
Critiquing and feedback is necessary for improvement.
She presented her experience of the game in terms of pros and cons very well.
From her experience the game has technical bugs, balancing issues, and a predictable plot.
Also, Co-op Multiplayer shouldn't be the solution to a game's issues.
I have more than 3 friends, I disliked the first one because of game breaking bugs and glitches.

Can't believe people say there's no new things. It's like all the other sequels out there. There's new missions such as new Bosses which are types of NEW infected that are buffed up. That's fun. There's new weapons, mods, story (which is bad, just like the first. But I like the game for it's game play) The new character is fun as hell with his badass kicks and punches.
This game is so fun, I've already pumped 40 hours into it with side quests and all sorts.

Fair enough. However, I enjoyed the exploration, combat, leveling system and co-op in Dead Island, I also had a tonne of fun. So, to me, Dead Island is a fantastic game.
To go and just say a "Dead Island is a bad game" is stating a fact, not an opinion. Now, to say "I think Dead Island is bad" is stating an opinion, which is fine. Far too often people pass their opinion off as fact.

One of the things I like about dead island was the fact that if you caught a zombie on fire you can get hurt it made it feel more realistic. Also just from seeing her game play I was not impressed she was not very strategic about it. It is just a fun game and I love killing ZOMBIES! But finding out that there is no developer mods is kind of disappointing because the skulls were fun to find and the weapons were even better. All-in- all I am still going to buy this game the graphics look awesome

It isn't considered a sequel by anyone even the company said that it wasn't. It is 50$ so it is halfway between an expansion and a full release game.

They've stuck to a formula that works and is fun. Maybe I'd be bored if they did this 2 or 3 times more, but Riptide is a decent sequel. I hope they mix things up a bit in a future Zombie Apocalypse game, but I'm very happy with Riptide so far!

If you loved the original game, it's absolutely worth it. If you can get it for £17, go for it! I'm not rich and I paid £35 for it. So far I've played 8 hours and am 22% of the way though. 8 hours for 22% works out to 2.75% per hour, which means the game should have around 36 hours of gameplay. That's just under £1 per hour. When you consider a movie ticket is ~£10 for ~2 hours, the game is over 5x cheaper than seeing a movie! £17 would make it over 10x cheaper than a movie! Well worth it!

the only thing I wanted them to fix was the zombie leveling issue where by the time you make it to say level 30-40 the zombies are pretty much immune to kicks and super powerful, its kinda annoying to shoot one in the face with a shotgun and it just shrugs it off . other than that its fun to run around with random people. if you didn't like the first one then don't buy this one

Did you miss the fact he is able to move with a full adamantium skeleton? If I remember right at 5 foot 3 is a little over 350lbs, given the way he moves would give him beyond human strength, even by comic book standards.

I think that New Vegas did more than that. There was a lot more side missions in New Vegas as compared to Fallout 3; also, New Vegas added a weapon modding system - albeit it was somewhat bare. The area of New Vegas greatly contrasts that of D.C.; it breathed a new style and new finesse. I agree that just remaking the terrain doesn't create an impressive sequel, but it is difficult for most games to do more than that for it warrants a new engine.

Dead Island is a great game. And dont talk about nothing has changed cause i dont remember the last time on COD when the campaign just isnt walking into a room and have random numbers of enemies come in.

You guys at Rev should use half stars in your rating system. The way she worded her self toward the end of the review, if you guys used half stars she would have gave this game 2.5 stars. A half star makes a BIG difference.

Nothing wrong with looking forward to it.
I plan on getting the game myself when the price drops to a value I feel the game is worth.
This game is just not worth $40 to me.

I couldn't help but to laugh out loud when she mentioned that the Navy chef was a master at hand to hand combat then they showed a clip of him just flailing his arms wildly at the zombie.

I disagree. Most people seem to assume that a 7/10 game is shit nowadays, and it's sort of hard to grade a game based on numbers. Stars are easier, but I prefer the way InecomCompany or Classic Game Room reviews games. Then I know more about it, and whether or not to purchase from there. He mainly talks about the game itself in a way like you would when telling it to a friend.

I really loved the Dead Island but I had my fill of it. They need some radical changes to get me to buy new dose of limb cutting action.

What the hell were people expecting when this game came out? It's marketing was pretty clear cut; you knew it was gonna be on an island, hell, the trailers before the game came out didn't make the game look DRASTICALLY better than the first game... Let's see, let me stand on a body that's shocking itself? Yeah, that's smart. Just like you said, I didn't expect that many improvement, just more story, whether it's shitty or not, and I CAN PORT MY CHARACTER OVER

I would only recommend this game to someone that loved the first game. I have beat the first game over 15 times and I am still playing it. I am trying to reach level 60 then I am gonna buy Riptide so I have a huge advantage.

Enjoyed the first immensely, esp co-op. Didn't notice, or was having too much fun to care about, the game's technical issues. Preordered for $39, looking forward to it.
