The trouble with comparing new vs used is that as soon as you acknowledge that no amount of new car feels could ever justify the staggering financial cost, you'll end up following that logic all the way to the realisation that true motoring nirvana can only be achieved when you're in a 20+ year old car you picked up at the absolute bottom of its depreciation curve

You are correct! While I do enjoy my 2018 GT3 weekend toy, the car I love for entirely different reasons is my 2008 Lexus GX470 with 165K miles. It’s an absolute hero that has never let me down, was beautifully engineered and built, and the only replacement items have been a new water pump and radiator (a rock punched a small hole in it), and finally after 15 years the rear air bag suspension finally began to leak, which I did a coil spring conversion & new shocks all around myself. The only liability is not great fuel economy, but that’s part of the game on real SUV’s. My cost of ownership is ridiculously low, and I recently turned down an offer of $18K for it since in great condition. My rule with anybody I know buying an EV is to only lease them, since EV’s as a category have the absolute worst resale of all cars.

The audio quality was better when driving over fifty than when recording in the hangar. This is one feature for people who do business from their cars hands-free. I drive a 2006 Ridgeline, and the RIvian has better styling because it has taken what I love about the original Ridgeline and made it better. I would like to know if I would get 300,000 miles on the Rivian like I nearly have on my Ridgeline with routine maintenance. Another thing Tyler omitted is that Rivian is also the builder of the Amazon electric vans. If I remember correctly, the drive train is shared with these, thus making Rivian engineering more commonplace in the future.

It's ridiculous how quick something that big can get moving, and you are right that its crazy (and possibly dangerous) how everyone might have that much mass moving that quickly so easily. Something to consider.......his was a NIGHTMARE to get fixed after a small hit to a parking lot bollard. The problem was he hit it at the charging port which disabled the truck and damaged the charging port to the point it needed to have the whole wiring harness replaced and it had to be trucked back and forth from the Rivian shop to the body shop, twice. It took forever and cost a lot, for what would be a minor repair to a normal car.

I think they will get there when Mexico comes on line. My sense is the price increase is to limit demand because they lack capacity and it cost more to make due to Gigapress / exoskeleton issues. When they tune up production the price will normalize. This is what was seen with the $40K price drop on the X. The reality is the Y is in huge demand. Tesla made 600K more vehicles last year (total of 1.8M) than the prior year and that was not with Shanghai, Berlin, Fremont and Texas all at full tilt.

Tesla did deliver a Model 3 for the advertised pre-production price of $35k. The current Model 3 is drastically better and starts at $39k. The new 1 also qualifies for a $7500 tax credit (making it cheaper than $35k). The Model 3 price has dropped multiple times in the past 2 years, while improvements to the vehicle have been added. Find another vehicle manufacturer that drastically improves a vehicle while decreasing the price, I'll wait.

    • @2011blueman
      @2011blueman 4 месяца назад

@@Skullspliter Tesla uses dynamic pricing, they dramatically increased prices during covid and only during the last year did they drop them. As for improving, LMAO, no. Tesla makes cars with poor build quality and low quality materials for the price, but they have by far the best charging system/network away from home and Musk was really good at hype until recently when people have started to catch on. Also, the $35K model 3 was only available for a few weeks in 2019 before being removed from the online ordering form and the current model 3 is not "drastically better".

Like Ford Lightings, I have only seen two Rivian pickups in our area. One of those Rivian trucks was very close in color to the one in your video but looked like it had spent some "quality time" in a rock tumbler as I could not find a spot larger than my hand on the truck that was not seriously dented. Dented beyond belief it might have been, but it was still very much drivable and serving as the owners' daily driver! The second Rivian I have seen looked pristine but was sitting on a third or fourth tier used car lot with a "Make Offer" sign in the windshield. I suspect that one was a flood car, but I have no personal knowledge to prove it as I could not get to it because the dealership was closed and all the vehicles were behind a tall chain link fence topped with razor wire and I'm too old, fat, and delicate to attempt climbing such a fence just to satisfy my curiosity. Not to mention such an action would have been against the law and orange is not my color. Take care and Happy New Year!

I’m proud of the Rivian team and all they’ve done to advance electric / alternative transportation. Door handles are your "favorite" feature? Really? The quality of the seats and interior are most impressive to me; the dashboard is awesome. I agree, the small bed is a drawback. Super speed for a pickup isn't really necessary. What, you're going to drag race a Corvette? I don't think so. For now, I'll stick to my Toyota Tacoma. It's all I need for utility and I'll wait for the prices to "normalize" and come down to earth on the Rivian and Tesla.

I've never watched a video on the Rivian - I enjoyed this video. The interior of the Rivian is very nice! Those seats look epic!

    I have a 2023 R1S...with the same 21's. As a pre-order holder, I paid $75,500. I LOVE my R1S!!

The range extender doesn't just "take up space" - it's like a third of the bed. I can't believe the best solution they could come up with to hit(ish) the numbers they promised was a giant battery brick in the part that makes it a truck.
Also, Hoovie, "champagne taste on a beer budget" with a straight face just after talking about a $1600/mo. payment for one of two Cybertrucks that you're buying?

Bold of you to assume that truck owners use the bed.

Have you heard of the Edison pickup hybrid conversion? It is a great way to save old trucks. Something to think about.

Yes this! Instead of buying 2 teslas (???) he could stick with the relatable content and get the cost saving Edison conversion kit. I’m sure they’d love to work with Hoovie anyway they’re awesome people!

I hope they are better at their work than they are at choosing such a dodgy name glorifying a man who electrocuted live elephants and basically enslaved scientists in his patentfactory. Also, it's still going to be a downgrade from internal combustion

@@deniscrnalic9411 I'd bet he flips one if not both the cyber trucks for a profit. As stupid as they look there are still people salivating for them for some reason

Be aware that even small collisions can be insanely expensive to repair on these. I saw a video recently where a guy spent a lot of time to repair a small dent at a rear corner, but it was still WAY cheaper than replacing a big unibody panel. I think they're rather cool, and if anyone should own one, it's Tyler. Not a vehicle for a guy like me, though.
