This is not the 1st time that squad 0 has been mentioned, Yamamoto mentioned them when he talked about Aizen's plan, in ep 125-126.
And Rukia in the beginning also. When the Menos appeared for the first time.
Bleach has some of the best flashback arcs imo. This one and the one that will come in last arc, both are just fantastic.
The one in the final arc, if it lives up to manga, may be the greatest flashback arc in anime

I think the Royal Guard/Squad Zero were only mentionen twice until know. Once by Rukia as the first Menos appeared (Ep 14) and once by Yamamoto (Ep 125) while discussing the Ouken that gives entry to the Royal Palace which is guarded by the Royal Guard

I like that you cited the white glasses as the reason Aizen looks suspicious but not that dark look in his eye that he shows lol. I know you noticed it, but it’s funny when you pick up on the anime tropes specifically.
I love that in this episode we have groundwork for maybe 180 episodes in the future. What happened here is really important for Aizen's character and the world building in the final arc

The Kenpachi of this period was killed by Zaraki, which Zaraki took over the captain position. He also did not have a lieutenant, so Zaraki simply chose Yachiru for that position.
