Part 2: Will a MORA COMPANION Survive HARD Use Testing???
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 29 май 2019
- In a previous video, we looked at this same Mora Companion in a hard use batoning test. This quickly became a polarizing video, where half the viewers enjoyed seeing how tough these little knives actually were, while the other half couldn't stand seeing the un-necessary abuse on the knife. In this video, we continue on with testing to see how this knife will survive hard tip testing. Will it survive??? You gotta watch to find out!
See Part 1: • Part 1: Will A Mora Co...
I'm more amazed that your superglue fix held up that well...lol...
No whining about abuse here. Nice stress test video for this knife.
Thanks! haha I enjoyed it! I am hoping to do a Part 3...just haven't had a good chance just yet.
Great test, thank you.
Great review of the glue. I'm going to buy some.
Haha, I use that stuff on everything...it's pretty useful!
I was totally impressed with the locktight super glue wow! Nice videos! 👍
Haha, right!! That super glue is ridiculous! I've used it a bunch for different repairs...it's been solid in all applications so far!
Impressive use of superglue Eric!
Some engineering for you guys:
1) the strength of a beam (in this case, the knife blade) is proportional to the breadth times the cube of the depth. So when levering with the blade as demonstrated, if the thickness of the blade is doubled, the strength goes up eight times (2 x 2 x 2).
2) When the blade is bent, work hardening occurs and the metal gets more brittle. This is why it eventually snaps with repeated bending.
I am absolutely impressed with your repair!
Just ordered 3, great review
What? The glue or the knives?
@@fatihk.8896 The knives.... But the glue sounds dependable too
You'll enjoy the Companion...did you get 3 different models, or all companions?
As others mentioned, very impressed the repair did hold up. And I agree. Always test a knife beyond normal use before you depend your life on it
Some knives beg the question...how far can they go. A Mora had me wondering...it just had to be sacrificed! Thanks for watching!
@@outerlimitless And for the price you can buy several and offer one to destruction. I always look for 'fail videos' of the knife as well as 'use videos' before buying it.
Great stuff Eric. Shows how strong the Companion is. What really impressed me was the super glue! I have a bunch of Mora's and they are all awesome. Best knife for the $. A Mora accompanied with a clobbering knife like an ESEE 6 or BK7 is a great combo
Moras are certainly impressive little blades. It was definitely impressive in these tests!
You just made an Eldris lol. Actually, I'm more impressed with the super glue. Fun stuff!
Oh man, you're right...it is an Eldris!!!
I for one liked the test. You said yourself it was abuse and I was impressed it lasted as long as it did. Good videos !
Thanks. Yes, I truly set out to literally abuse the knife to see how tough it was. I have many Moras and this one was the one to suffer. But I still own it and it's still in my collection!
I cried! I treat my moras with as much love and care as if they were thousands bucks worth blades! That may sound crazy but I even regularly oil my stainless kansbol! I really cherish those no-nonsense, high quality and affordable great tools!
They are fantastic. I use Moras more than any other brands. Literally multiple times daily. Impressive blades and surprisingly tough!
Companion carbon, 2mm thickness. Excellent knife.
The super glue did a great job also.
Enjoyed the video & I like to see the limits of the knife. Thx
That little blade performs...quite impressive! Thanks for watching!
Even after the knife broke, the tip was still good. Cool review.
Love it man
Thanks! I need to prepare for Part 3!
Knife's ok, but that Mora Bushglue is some amazing stuff.
Thank you. I needed a cheap knife to cut open young coconuts and I needed to know if the tip would hold up. I bought a mora
Hey thanks for the video really help everybody out there to see what it is capable of and plus you have a decent small blade to put in a minimalistic survival tin 🙂
Haha...I kinda want to weld it back regardless of it mangling the heat treat
I am most amazed at how that glue job held up.
Seriously, that glue was tough stuff! It totally worked! Now to weld the blade back together...haha!
Is that an HD blade....or the thinner version? Also, you may have said it and I missed it....but is it carbon or stainless? I love all of mine. Hard not to when they can do all the things they can.
That is the standard in carbon. Pretty impressive considering! Great knives!
Love mora by far my favorite budget fixed blade knife company. I have a couple of there non full tangs and there stainless garberg absolutely no complaints besides I’d like to see a sharp spine on all there knives just like the garberg.Still good just super glue it again🤡👍🏻✌🏻.
I'm thinking of a quick weld job! I have some people who can weld it up for me...quick regrind and we're off and running again!
Well, now i have seen the part 2 of your video about Mora and i mantain my first words. A knife is not a axe or a prybar. I used Mora knives for almost 15 years and i never caused any damage to my Mora's. I pirced with them, i do battonig with them and never brooke no tip and no blade. And i tell you for shoure, many full tang can't resit to your test.
And isn't that the point. How surprisingly capable and durable these knives are given their fantastic low price? That was the entire point of this video
I really like to see how far one can with the knives. I tend to over protect my blades.
Subscribed to see the SS test😀
Tbh...I have a companion hd and have been afraid to take it out and use it....2 tests you've done tells me it can handle a camping backpacking outing...I use a tent...so no need to build a bushcraft shelter...again, good to know I can use it without fear...although I'd still bring a back up. lol
Thanks, I thought this would be interesting to see how hard you could push this knife. It's a tough little blade and more than suitable for most people and most general camp tasks. This proves even light batoning and splitting is perfectly capable without fear of damage.
Great videos! Please do the same test with the stainles steel! Thanks
I would be curious about the stainless test...might be fun. I think I am due for another Mora torture video!
@@outerlimitless Oh man I am waiting !And one more thing-be careful, that blade shot like a bullit at the end!
Great video. I have the garberg stainless but have not come close to putting to the extremes you did with the companion. I’d send it to you to test...but may not get it back in one piece 😂😂😂
Haha, I like the Garberg...I would probably buy it in Carbon. I don't know...it would be a tough decision. I have been enjoying stainelss blades lately, but I naturally gravitate to Carbon. Hmmm...either way it's a fun decision to make!!!
You can't go wrong with Scandinavian or German stuff!Knives,tools,material,engineering..girls..Just love it.
Fun video! Love Morakniv, maybe you should test the companion HD, Bushcraft black or Garberg :)
I'm thinking the HD would be a good test. I would love to test the Garberg, but I probably won't buy one to break it!
@@outerlimitless I would love to see that video :) Maybe you should test one of my favourite knives that is also "budget friendly" namely the terävä jääkäripuukko wich is great. I am thinking of buying your knife, I live inside the EU so I don´t have to pay import fees :)
@@TheLapierre Thanks! If you are interested, email me at outerlimitless@gmail.com. I can discuss the details and help facilitate the build specifications. My very next video will show you how my second batch looks. Many new details from the first round. New steel choice, finishes, and handle details. I'm continuing to expand on the available options to where this is a very custom build with precision repeatable results! Quite exciting actually! Thanks for the support!
I’m off to go get some blue locktight wow
Haha, it worked! It was a basic super glue, but it definitely got the knife back into serviceable condition!
I would buy this mora
You should do the same test with the Benchmade 3v pukko it would be interesting to see the difference especially on the tip testing.
Haha, let me borrow yours and I'll do it!!!
That's a bit pricey to destroy...I'd stick with a $12...aw heck...maybe even $15 :D
S30v isn't hard to snap I wouldn't do it
@@ramonanzures9780 good thing it’s 3v steel not s30v steel 🤡
It's really sure to have this result. I don't know why but there are so many guys insist that Mora is the best for bush-craft. Is it still possible to say so according to this result? At least, I strongly believe that folders from Spyderco will work much better than Mora series. Then Mora fans may still claim that Garberg would do but there must be other choices before buying it based on its price.
I like the Mora's just fine, but to me, for a knife for practice as well as I do use their carving knives...like spoon knives, etc.
Would be ironic to see an ER doctor dig out the tip of the knife from his eye socket with a Mora Companion just like how he dug into the log. Good thing you have some shades on.
Well, there is a reason why I bent it in strategic directions...
I have the Companion heavy duty knife it seems to have a thicker blade then yours knife i could be wrong
The Heavy Duty is thicker...and this one took some abuse! So the HD will be a good option for someone looking to add some additional strength.
Thank you for tge video
Did you say reeming holes or rimming holes? These are two VERY different outcomes depending on the instructions so I'd like to make sure I heard you properly.
Oh, both are equally good outcomes...
Gadverdegadverdegadver.
Just glue it together and do a third part 😂
Haha! I thought of that! I think the glue has reached its limit though. I did think about welding it, but I figured the heat treated would be mangled that way
Hello friend, is stainless steel better in this particular type?
Yes,its more durable and it doesnt crack
Carbon will sharpen more easily and hold an edge longer, but it can rust.
I find the carbon have it's edge not bend, where the stainless did.
Stainless(58HRC) isn't as hard in the Mora knives, the Mora carbon is harder(60 HRC).
I had a Mora 749 (stainless) that had its edge bend like an iron wire.. That's partially due to edge geometry.
But even after sharpening it into a thicker convex edge, the problem stayed.
Tested this on several 749's. All same outcome.
It's carbon or stainless version?
That was carbon...
Good vid sir as a knife lover Inm quite hurt but to be honest awesome vid.
I still have the Mora...it's not discarded...still lives in my collection, and is still useful!
Haha cool
Anyway good job with the glueing
I'll weld it back together for you so you can keep going.
I want to do that! Haha! Definitely!
Dude, please make a make-shift Eldris out of that blade tip and get'er back out on the field! lol
Haha...I will definitely have a "Part 3"...not sure when, but I have some plans!
Seriously what glue was that? That little piece would make a nice trout knife riveted to a 1/4 " rod or maybe some key stock.
Haha! That was some tough stuff! Just Loctite Super Glue. Worked well though!!
Very diligent job, but "..they are not so great in hard use" sounds a bit strange conclusion after all this abuse.
I immediately buy one. Then, from the saving a crowbar, a hatchet and a chainsaw :)
The tip of the bk9 and junglas broke faster than this 2mm thick mora. Joe X video's..
Wonder if stainless would hold up longer
Curious question. Or maybe bent vs snap?
What brand of kitchen butterknife is best for splitting green oak firewood or whittling cinder blocks into road gravel ?
Let's get serious about what a knife is designed to do.
The grain of a blade's steel is not ran from hilt to tip.
Therefore it is not a prybar
or a splitting wedge.
This internet ( fantasy ) knife use stuff
is ridiculous.
One does not need a .416 Remington
to drill holes in lumber.
There is a properly designed tool
for that.
Where is the first video?
Here's the link:
ruclips.net/video/x8TS8LLHLIM/видео.html
What kind of glue did you USE ? Maybe I'LL try it on my K-BAR.
Haha, just loctite super glue. It's a polymer handle that kinda melts with glue like that to bind. If you're metal to metal you're toast.
@@outerlimitless
Ok thanks because it looks the blade broke in half. Not the handle. Im looking at tops operator 7 it's bad knife. Hope you do or have a review on it. Thank you. Stay healthy. Be safe
I do not have the Operator 7. I like it generally, but I struggle with upper guards. If I had that knife I would instantly grind that upper guard down flat. It's thick stock, so it should have some heft. I found the sweet spot in design with my TFK T17, but if you want a stockier blade, the Operator 7 might be a good option. How about a Becker BK7? Or do you want a finger choil?
@@outerlimitless
Thank you for good information. Stay healthy.
@@outerlimitless
Loctite super glue?
Wow, that stuff is impressive...
I'll use that in a situation like this.
Impressed more with the super glue! Hahahah
Wow, the Superglue repair performs incredibly! I think what you're doing there at the knife snap is "gouging." I'd like to see the tip bent quickly back and forth. Why not put the blade back together with duct tape? LMAO
The next Morakniv mod fad will likely be running beads of Super Glue full-length as re-enforcement ribs.
I'm shocked it worked to be honest...but it definitely did.
Get together with the Hydraulic Press channel and put the Mora in his press. That would be epic.
Far from being a moron, I think that Mora does pretty darn good for a $12 or so knife! You can pay 3 to 4 times as much for a Gerber or Kershaw that couldn’t take 1/2 the stress the Mora did.
It was pretty impressive! That really torqued over before it snapped. Oh man, did that thing blow!
I couldn't help myself with this one.
You're a moran for doing this to the knife
Is that a play on words?
Sure is
Morakniv should partner with Super Glue and make an ENTIRE Morakniv out of Super Glue ! Then, if it ever broke, you could, ....., oh, I don't know, ....., maybe glue it back together ?
Don't understand the hate, you made a video with the specific purpose of abusing a knife and delivered on it without clickbait or anything, meanwhile on the internet, there are people that legitimately think that batoning and other abusive practices on knives are a good way to use a blade, for fucks sake people if you have to break wood use an axe, a saw or carve yourselves a wedge.
You should try the Heavy Duty companion, kansbol and garberg next great video!
I'm thinking I'll probably get into the HD at some point! Thanks for watching!
Hard use is another greasy term as oily as super steel. This knife was never advertised as such
You're the only one that suggests it was advertised for hard use...
@@outerlimitless I said nothing of the sort, but since you broke the knife in two I'd say you abused it passed what it waa intended for
@@brianlash154 Right... exactly. And I never said anything of the sort. I think you missed the entire premise of the video...
Coincidentally, i just watched part 1 of this only yesterday. Was a fun video and even more fun to read the butt hurt in the comments.
People get so hurt by this...haha, it's actually hilarious! Thanks for watching!
I'm a small knife small axe kinda camper.
Morakniv Companion 2mm Slim Spine Thickness Carbon Steel Super Strong,Very İnteresting One Happening🙄🤔
Image if when he was stabbing the log the super glue repair broke and the blade folded into his fingers
I would have posted it
The world best knife
It is truly great! I use a Mora almost every single day.
Couple of years age in a German magazine, they tested several blades.
Mora 711 was among them, also BRKT and other more expensive knives.
The Mora 711 came out best. Cutting ability, handle ergo's etc.
I wasn't surprised at all...
10 euro,... say hello to my little friend.
He intentionally snapped the blade to make it a box cutter
It snapped right where I wanted it to!
Now you have a eldris😂
Haha, yep for sure! I'm thinking about welding it back together at some point and grinding it back together. Will probably totally pork the heat treat, but why not continue to experiment with a torture test??
O un formón Morakniv 😆
Anyone can break any knife they want.
I've seen a Becker BK7 break mid blade, during batoning a piece of wood the same size that made the tang come out of the Mora.
So yea.
Also a guy complaint about a Busse, that the edge chipped where the Junglas which did the same job did not. (but the edge of a Junglas bend when a guy was chopping a log).
People should stop thinking their expensive thick blade is invincible.
And those very thick ones are often lousy slicers, cumbersome to have on you.
To each their own, but I'll stick to my Mora's.
I'm sorry, did he say SUPER GLUE?!
Yessir! The glue outlasted the blade!
NOOOOOOOO NOT THE COMPANIOOOOOOOOOOOOONNNNNNNN
Hahaha, nooooooooo! It still works...I still have it. Now I have 2 companions...haha.
Un couteau a ses propre spécificité c'est a dire de couper si tu lui en demande trop il dira non
Holy shit, you really came close to getting your face stabbed, or worse between your legs. But the knife was great, at least I can say I know when it can break off and stab me or someone around me. haha
I had the log positioned specifically to block my lower body. I'll admit I wasn't expecting it to fly as far as it did, but if you notice, I had the knife angled as to fly away from me. Stabbed in the face would have sucked! But as I mentioned, I was positioned well and careful with the position of the knife. Crazy though, right!!
E uma faca para trabalhos prescisos para esse tipo de teste é melhor um machado kk
Broke in style hahaha
Haha, thing exploded! Was a pretty epic failure though...I've bent a lot of blades, but none flew apart like that!
@@outerlimitless
The Mora Companion carbon is 60HRC.
🤕😯baatss!....
Why ??
Because...
gloves and safety glasses next time maybe ?
Had the glasses, but gloved might have helped. Or a shield!
Freeze a mora companion in a block of ice
That's dumb since when its that even a legit test also these knives are not designed for heavy duty work slicing cutting and carving are its duties to expect more is just stupid
That's not hard use setting, that's straight-up breaking the knife on purpose, lol.

Question! Is it a lifetime warranty? 😂
Hahaha!! Probably considered abuse??? Hahaha thanks for watching!
I'm sure they wrote him back and told to fuck off.lmao

What a goon.
How dare you misuse a stump like that. What a jerk. Cry cry cry. Poor old stump.

That's dumb since when its that even a legit test also these knives are not designed for heavy duty work...
slicing, cutting and carving are its duties to expect more is just stupid
Either way anyone who uses these knives properly know they are serious knives and many people are uneducated also as seen many times even say its hard to sharpen when its just their poor techniques and if you wanna test a knife for durability use tests which actually educate people instead of entertainment which to me is just rubbisb
