Thank you for reviewing that knife Joe. I love my Mora HD Companion. What an awesome test! That was some serious flexing in the timber. That took a lot of abuse before it broke. After seeing your Cold Steel SR-1 video, I ordered one but cancelled it as I’m unsure. Which do you think is better….the SR-1 or Scout 4 Max? (I know you’ve reviewed them both) There’s a $50 price difference between the two, the Scout is $125, the SR-1 is $75. I’m looking forward to seeing how the Hultafors holds up.
The 4 Max scout is much more better, get it.I have many knives and I actually have used all especially in the forest, the 4 Max scout is close to a fixed blade.
I have a very old mora knife with a wooden handle. I have opened tons of food cans with it camping over the years(and at home when my can opener broke). It never got dull or chip. A few passes on a steel rod and it’s still shaves hair. Things been through a lot lol
Mora and Cold Steel are proving to be the best for their value. Mora in particular is really amazing. As always thank you Joe...I hope your channel will grow exponentially. One small suggestion...how about a video where you make a competition of two or three similar knives with different kinds of trial. Cutting tasks...sharpening...and then of course destruction...
Everybody know that they won't use their knives like that but, it's interesting to push the limite at the maximum and what i like in your demonstration is that you are positive and honnest with the knives you broke, here is an example with the Mora HD. I love your vid because even if you are a little bit crazy ( in the good way😉) you are honnest. Take care 👍
You know by the time a knife makes it to the steel pole and JoeX is huffing and puffing....you better take note of the brand. I have said it many times.....Mora's for the price cannot be beat. Great Job JoeX. Its one of the reasons why I own so many Mora's. I even bought some of their blank blades and mounted them in stag handles.
As I've always said...it's hard to beat the "basic" 12c27 (durability, good edge holding and easy of sharpening), and nobody does it better than Mora. A very suprising result in the bending test in my opinion. Honourable mention is the "basic" carbon steel from Japan SK5, Hultafors and Cold Steel do an excellent job with that one.
Even broken like that will be useful in garage or workshop. It will be easy to grind down one side of the broken tip to make a chisel, or grind spine to make a tip. I also recommend technique of thumb tuck when stabbing hard material. Thgumb goes over the end of the handle and index finger goes over thgumb pressing it. It's a grip used often in pullups and dead lift, I recommend it a lot when you think knife might slip.
Would love to see the fixed blade Adamas! Also, I had no idea Mora is that solid! Imagine if they made military knives and daggers, damn things would set a new standard!

I have several knives from the Mora company and I found that especially the stainless steel 12C27 ones don't hold the edge well with the scandi grind, so I started micro bevel grinding on them and it's much better.
