Hello everyone! This video has been making the rounds recently and I wanted to comment about the host who interviewed me to set the record straight, I think she was absolutely outstanding. It's her job as a host to ask questions that will get a response that further clarifies the mindset or the perspective of a guest, and this doesn't necessarily mean they might be questions that at first glance contextually apply or are especially kind to the guest, but they do allow the guest to say things otherwise that wouldn't have been said. It's an interview style and technique that is the signature of shows like Hard Talk which are meant to put the guest on the spot or under pressure to draw out their true character. Judging from the comments I did a pretty good job and I am grateful to my host for allowing me the opportunity and the platform to shine! Just want to clarify she was incredibly respectful and professional with me both on and off TV, and while many of us may get why I say what I say or do what I do, a lot of people might share very foreign perspectives, and in this interview I think the host did an amazing job of making my work accessible to everyone :) Thank you so much for watching!
It is perhaps fair to say she has evolved some, since her interview with Trevor Noah. She was much more emotional, there. Visibly upset, as she clearly tried to push the interview and the interviewed person towards answers that 'she' had already conceived and wanted to get, but didn't. Because Trevor Noah navigated through her apparent 'hostility' with eloquence. Same as you. And she chose such a thoroughly harmless joke, as an example, to confront him with. The one where Trevor talks about his parents. How his (Swiss) father likes chocolate (Trevor's mother). Out of his whole material in that particular special, that's the joke that upset her the most? Really? And she clearly couldn't control herself. Or less so than she did with your interview. Either she plays her part, the challenging interviewer, the devil's advocate, very well and convincingly, so much so that she regrettably and perhaps unintentionally comes across unlikable, inflexible and downright hostile OR she genuinely still doesn't completely grasp and accept how comedy works and how bias can cause a person to prefer certain subject matters over others and be more easily accepting of others. Even if they don't laugh, they can still accept a joke, even if it's not clever, just easy and there's no real (even educational) point behind it. Humor, I think, is NOT an acquired taste. One cannot 'learn' to laugh at stuff that they just don't/can't laugh at. We can become desensitized to things, because of overuse, cliche...etc. or get educated on certain things and not laugh at certain stuff anymore, but it doesn't work the other way around. One cannot gradually learn to laugh at things they never found funny. I don't think that can happen. Also, I found, through watching Bill Burr, it is possible to find subject matters entertaining, even if one personally cannot really relate because of lack of experience. For example, his bits about black neighborhoods, black friends and cloths, sports, relationships, gold-diggers, American culture in general. Living where I do and where I'm from, I cannot actually relate to any of that and I can still find it entertaining. I especially enjoy watching reactions from black people to his videos. But, going back to the interviewer, she seems to have a tendency to quickly get on with the next question, when she gets a calm and collected, clear, perfectly acceptable response to something she expected something else. She appears like she wants the comedian, in particular, to squirm and get uncomfortable and drag an unfavorable response out of them. What she doesn't expect and cannot seem to handle well is a response that is the exact opposite. Then she appears to be momentarily exasperated, but quickly masks it, reins in whatever disapproval (towards the response) or dissatisfaction (that her 'tactic' didn't work) is coming to the surface and moves onto the next question. It is noticeable. Unless, she's also very good at acting, and for some reason she deliberately wants to come across obnoxious, but why would she. That is why I don't believe she's just playing devil's advocate. She seems to be genuinely ill-equipped to tackle comedians (and comedy, in general), because of the negativity (bias) she approaches it with. That she STILL approaches it with, it seems.
@@MattHunX I totally agree with you. That said, I firmly believe that Nemr is the best I have ever seen (68 years on this earth) at diplomacy and tact. He is what I have tried (with a modicum of success, unfortunately) to emulate in my adult life.
This interviewer is more interested in hearing her own voice and getting her own message out rather than letting the interviewee respond. Way to stay focused and not take the bait, Nemr. Kudos and mad respect, brother. You are, without a doubt, a class act.
Nemr, We as Lebanese people appreciate how you responded to this intelligent questionnaire/interview. You are a smart and fun comedian. We love your honest material. Keep up the good work - Come to Kansas City. :)
What a horrible interviewer. Nemr you are an outstanding comic and a smart respectful man. We are proud to have a Lebanese like you that represents us so well.
I don't think Nemr realises or he does, that his work has also impacted positively and even given courage to not just comedy but many songwriters and singers who are British born and Arabs. He's inspired generations in mostly every creative industry arabs are in, arabs who live in states, usa and around the world. There is a painting I saw, and it had notes below painting by the artist, where he mentioned he saw one of his videos, it pushed the artist to go for it because he felt, Nemr's appearance made him feel he too needs to take responsibility for exporting arab culture. To be unafraid, find courage and believe in his greater purpose. So Nemr, you're actually impacting arabs in all the creative industries, not just comedy. As for this interview, loved how you handled the questions. She had to be tough with questions and it brought with it great replies and answers, to learn more about your purpose, why comedy and a lot what I didn't know. Hope to see more of your work.
This lady is clearly emotional and shouldn't have been the one doing the interview. Good job NEMR. You handled yourself very well. She kept cutting you off and you being super smart dealt with her
I absolutely love this video. It not only highlights your message on how the middle east is misrepresented but it also shows how we can deal with questions that may startle us. well done Nemr.
This is my first time seeing this and I absolutely love how you kept her from pushing the typical media agenda and stereotype they love to push. It be a style of journalism or not it’s very obvious how BBC likes to force the hand as they say. Especially comparing to what just happened with Andrew Tate and BBC it’s very similar dialogue with them. You did the best job lifting our culture up and making sure people understand 🙌🏼🙌🏼
Simply brilliant! Many people seem to miss the fact that the purpose of a real interviewer is to needle the guest on controversial issues. A former captain of the Indian National Cricket Team broke down in tears because he couldn't give straight answers to the questions that BBC's Hardtalk put to him. Nemr handled every question with brilliance and finesse.
I’m so happy that you landed this interview! It gives me a sense of pride. You rock the Lebanese identity while making it look cool! Very well spoken and well dressed! Top Notch Comedians, Nemr is one of them, Who will go beyond just the joke, just to deliver a message; I appreciate you. We are fighting a Narrative war, and Nemr is one of our prized warriors.
So happy how handled this interview really!! He’s smart yet real person with authentic answers, unfortunately the west is missing out in knowing and understanding the Arab world !! (So sad tho)
Who's in her ear piece not wanting to listen and learn and wanting to control the narrative!?,..... He handled himself superbly well!,.... Laughter is global
OMG, what an awesome discussion; I'm sure, at the end of the interview, Zena was like 'I can't wait for this talk to be broadcast!' Great job!!!!!!!!!!
She is not Zena.. She is *Zainab Bawawi* a British Sudanese citizen.. and her father was well known and famous Sudanese famous Sudanese broadcaster who also worked before her for the BBC for years and years
“In Lebanon we killed each other for so long ... no one care anymore” unfortunately I totally disagree with that; they still care down to their bones.... you just need to scratch the surface and you will be amazed. Nevertheless, it’s an interesting interview
Brilliant! Love that you are getting international attention and that you are using your platform to spread positivity! We can't wait for your next show!💕💕
I don't know why but she give me the feeling that she wanted him to apologise for being an arab. For god's sake people, don't relate all arabs with ISIS. Greetings from Greece !
Trevor Noah was my favorite standup comedian until I saw NEMR for the first time. Best one was: In the sentence "Don’t be a pussy:", the word pussi stands for the abbreviation of the word "pusillanimous" - Definition of pusillanimous: lacking courage and resolution
As a Muslim viewer he answered everything so appropriately. The Muslims and Christians in the Arab world do get along its foreign intervention that try to focus on our differences similarly to this interviewer. Emphasizing as to what is our culture by relating it to religion? Our culture is in our traditional clothing, our food, our mentality, our art, and music. This has nothing to do with religion any Arab can appreciate atleast one of the things listed above .
when a comedian becomes too philosophical and answer in velvet gloves he is no longer a good comedian he is a politician ! BTW how are things in Lebanon now ?
The interviewer, zainab al badawi, an arab, more so than Nemr himself, does a terrible job. Allowing the guest to answer might be a step forward for you zainab. Also as a woman of muslim heritage you should know the difference between terrorism and Islam
This lady keep cutting Nemr, she did not give him the chance to finish any of his sentences. Then asking why you don’t say what you want in Saudi Arabia?. When you go to someone’s house, you have to respect their way, you do not go change the way they rule their house. We are different here in the US, the freedom of speech is in our constitution.

Nemr you handled this interview exceptionally well and with grace, well done.
Outstanding! 🔥
Yo love your videos
This interviewer is more interested in hearing her own voice and getting her own message out rather than letting the interviewee respond. Way to stay focused and not take the bait, Nemr. Kudos and mad respect, brother. You are, without a doubt, a class act.

What a horrible interviewer. Nemr you are an outstanding comic and a smart respectful man. We are proud to have a Lebanese like you that represents us so well.
You should watch her interview Trevor Noah. it's even worse.

Great, you are famous world wide❤❤❤

You're the first lebanese public figure (yes you are a public figure) i'm actually proud of saying we're from the same country.
Trevor Noah was my favorite standup comedian until I saw NEMR for the first time.

Come to New York and you'll see how PC culture absolutely WRECKING comedy.

Poor lady
Brilliant!!
The interviewer was all over the place. I don't think she understand Nemrs accent (too American for her lol)
It's either that or she's on something
why is she attacking nemr ? his the only comedian who addressed what is really going on in the middle east.
Amazing interview nemer, man hayda l show esm 3a mousama those questions are not easy but ma boi nemer took them head on . Great one ma boi.
Yes they were not easy questions. Nemr didn’t shy away but got very profound points across. Very Humble at the same time
I first heard of you from seeing you in this show. You gave a great interview
Domt like her style
Jesus holy love you
You got this all wrong Nemr, we have nothing to do with Arabs hence our cultural, traditional and way of life differences
Yes these interviwers have been briefed to give the interviwee a hard time and i never like friction

The interviewer, zainab al badawi, an arab, more so than Nemr himself, does a terrible job. Allowing the guest to answer might be a step forward for you zainab. Also as a woman of muslim heritage you should know the difference between terrorism and Islam
she hates her culture probably

The host unfortunately is there to interrogate and not to have an honest conversation. Same thing happened when she hosted Trevor Noah.
I don't like her. Stay strong Nemr. You are very funny. Your comedy is genuine. You are very talented🇨🇦
