- The Akbash dog was developed in Turkey as a livestock-guarding dog. Reports of these large guardian dogs go back as far as 750 to 300 B.C. Many accounts described the dogs as sporting spiked collars to protect their necks in fights with predators.

We ended up with one from a rescue. He was the absolute best dog we could have never hoped for. So awesome for our little kids. We didn’t know about this breed and thought he was a Pyrenees cross, but have figured out he was Akbash due to research. Now, I don’t want any other breed. He spoiled me. :)
Ours is aggressive to other people and pets, but adores me. I think I spoiled it, because I didn't have enough time to socialize him when he was puppy, so now he is sticked to me and even do not allow other people to speak with me. We also have an american foxhound and turkish khangal boys and a female mix from a shelter, these play together all over the day. The akbash accepts only the foxhaund, and plays with it, but only outside. At home and in the yard the akbash king must be the only one.
Why is it that every video on these breeds in English is full of wrong facts. sigh...
