Just wear it! Yes there are questions and looks, but what matters is how I feel and wearing a kilt makes me feel good (awesome actually). You hit the head of the nail spot-on with the hammer in your video. I see kilts becoming more common, and I am glad I am helping promote their wear. At age seven my mother dressed me in a school kilt uniform and brought me to Edinburgh Castle in Scotland. We almost missed our tour because all the tourists were taking my picture. Mom turned to one of the lady tourists and confessed we were from New York. The lady laughed at mom and told her she was from New Jersey and no one back home would know I wasn't Scottish. 48 years later, today I own 1 pair of jeans, 2 pair of dress slacks, 1 suit, and 10 kilts....... As they should, the kilts get worn the most. Have no fear, wearing a kilt is not............ ( you chose the next word).
I was photographed by a bus load of Japanese tourists in Edinburgh too. I was wearing a Gordon Highlanders kilt ( same tartan as Gordon modern but 18 Oz fabric ). I’m Swedish. 🤣🇸🇪🏴
I’ve been wearing my black and my Khaki 5.11 upholder kilts for a few weeks and I’ve had nothing but compliments, with the exception of a couple jerks at work giving me the occasional “haha you’re wearing a skirt/dress” which is obviously just silly joking. But my first real criticism came yesterday when this person told me I’d be called a “braggart” in Scotland because the 5.11 kilts hang a touch below the knee for my particular height and build. “This is what I have and it’s comfortable and it works well for my look” I said. My daily dress being more contemporary, more tactical-ish. “Well it’s SUPPOSED to hang just above the middle of the knee” she replied, in a very know-it-all tone. After three or so weeks of nothing but “hey that’s awesome!” This one interaction almost made me stop wearing my kilts until I were to buy one in the “proper” size. Almost. I’m so glad I came across this vid. Unless your goal is to dress in a very traditional manner, if a little longer or little shorter, more or less pleats, or other deviations from the traditional looks good on you, then go with it. 99% of people you cross paths with aren’t going to notice or care that it’s “a half inch too long”. After all, Wearing a Kilt is supposed to be about being free, bold and unapologetic, right? Cheers!
I wear my kilts as often as I can. I get compliments all the time from my customers, it really encourages me to not think about how "perfect" it looks. Great video. Can't wait to order another kilt.
I am an Australian and I have scottish heritage and I have been in a kilt for about a year now. Up until recently if I wasn't at work I was in a kilt, now I'm in a kilt almost 24/7. Get out there and be yourself.
I wear a kilt in the Crimea. Both of my sons wear kilts. I have about 5, the oldest son has 6 and the youngest has 2. We are Ukrainians :) I recently bought a bagpipe. I am learning to play it. I have musical experience and the bagpipe plays well in my hands. Here in Crimea people think we are from Scotland. Although since 2014 we have been occupied by Russia and foreigners do not visit us. God bless Ukraine!
Cool, Brice, now I know what you look like. I hope that doesn't sound stalkery! I have been buying UT kilta for a while now, and work and play in them. I love them and the price. Thank you for making good work that is also affordable.
My kilt, an UT Black Watch, comes off for showering and a few other times as well. The thing is, I totally agree with your video. My kilt now has a few rips and tears, but that's the character of the garment. So, the lady of the house tells me that I ought to order another kilt, just to have one to change to, Not my lady and not my house, just where I am recuperating from a prolonged stay at hospital. Stll, I agree with her. I like your products. PLEASE, continue with the good work.
Well said, great topic! I myself wear a utility kilt almost all the time, I am a truck driver, and I make about 10 deliveries a day to retail stores. I have had about eight people in the last month and a half, stop and talk to me extensively about kilts, how they have one but don't really wear it out, they've wanted one in the past, wish they were now, they wore one to their wedding, love the look of mine, where did I get it, etc... I think if we care about how we look, buy good quality, and represent ourselves well, it will naturally bring nice questions, comments, and good discussions. Thanks for the video!
I wear my kilts everyday for work, church and for every occasion. I really don't care about what other think, if I get a compliment, great! If I get that look lol, I give them a wink & blow them a kiss and for me it's about the pleats, whether it's a box or knife pleats and my favorite are the twice pleats for that more formal look..
I'm not Scottish as you see, I'm actually Chilean but I love the Scottish culture and I was wondering if it's offensive to wear a kilt, since I'm not one of them... my only connection with that culture it's my wife's Grandma who descended from the McCulloch clan.
Yes, it is more than appropriate! Plus you are connected to the Scottish culture through your wife's line. You are good to wear a kilt with no issue at all!!
@@TheToddFather1969 yes wear the McCulloch kilt... with pride..any other as far as it goes.. just don’t mix clans.. a McCulloch kilt with a Stewart kilt pin.. Koop it all one clan at a time.
I recently found your website and became a member. I haven't placed an order yet but will in the next month. I like your utility kilts the best because I work outside in the all types of weather and have learned a kilt is the best garment for work. The second best is a pair of overalls. Wearing a kilt around town makes me feel untouchable. I suggest more people wear them, regardless of lineage or clan. Just find a tartan you like and wear it proudly. Thanks.
Hi there. I just bought my first kilt(s). One is a great kilt and the other is a modern kilt in my Wallace family tartan. How do you get over the feeling of being looked at? I figured I would wear it to the Utah Highland games and nowhere else. I'm not sure how I get over that fear of wearing one. I wear scrubs to work every day so I can't exactly wear it to work. I'm not someone who likes to draw attention. And a kilt definitely draws attention. Any thoughts?
So there is no way to get away from the attention. I can say that you do get used to it. I am not one to want attention either, but it kind of comes with the territory. I can say that it gets easier and easier the more you do it. Start with small steps like wearing it out for dinner. Most people won't see you since you are sitting down. Then you can move up to situations that you will be more noticed.
I am a guy who recently purchased a solid black kilt just to wear casually on days where I feel like being more free, like on hikes or just to lounge around the house. However, when I ordered it, I was under the impression that the hem opened on the right, but it actually is on the left. Does this honestly really matter? The fit is great, comes down to the top of my knee fits great around the waist/belly it's just the hem opening so I was wondering how big of a deal this really is. Thanks again. Sincerely Robert Benson
im in a kilt work or home. I love it. though I actually prefer the great kilt over the modern kilt as I tend to pop the pleats out in a modern kilt I don't have that problem with great kilt. I have 1in family colors and one of generic Non tartan color non tartan kilt 5 meters in length and 60in wide I like it the best van do more with it
still have to figure out what to wear with if I go out formally most day it won't work for formal occasions but i don't like being told what can't be done instead I like to figure out how it can be done lol
my question. I have 5 meters of material that is not tartan 5m long by 60in wide. I wear it as a great kilt after all the original great wraps really didn't have tartan design as we know it. is there a way i can send a pic picture maybe get your thoughts on whether this acceptable. four most parts people recognize it as a kilt bit curious to what family clan I explain that it's not tartan of any clan but I love wearing it send I explain the history of the original kilts

Are kilts becoming regular everyday clothing?
I believe it is becoming more acceptable so more people are wearing it.
For me the answer is yes.... every day..I love wearing the kilt!
I hope so!
