- We love seeing our amazing students in their national dresses - especially the kilt!
Figuring out how to wear an outfit so steeped in tradition and heritage can seem daunting, especially if you have never worn one before! Even if you've years of kilt wearing under your belt, remembering how to wear all the kilt accessories can be a challenge. We popped along to the experts at Georgian Dress Hire in Aberdeen to find out exactly how to do it!
Just a Portuguese man living in France looking at kilt videos
Don't mind me
Gosh I really wanted to go to this school. Watching these Scottish history and culture type videos is so cool tho
Go to any Scottish uni and you can wear a kilt at the graduation, balls, ceilidhs whatever you like :)
A man in kilt look very impresing :)
Sharp! So do graduates wear it at Commencement?
Where in Aberdeen is this shop as I do not know how to find it.
I usually wear a belt when I wear a vest if it is quite short. And I have to attach my "pockets" somewhere. I use cartridge pouches that I carry on the right and left. This way I can store all my things without having to carry a sporran, or worse, a handbag.

I'm a little confused.
In another video, wearing a belt with a dress sporran was discouraged due to the belt buckle scratching the cantle.
Is there an exception with a vest?
Actually, a belt should never be worn with a waistcoat regardless of whether you're looking at highland wear or ordinary business attire.
@@TheJTMcDaniel Is correct... never wear a belt if you have on a vest or a dress sporran (Day or Semi Dress sporrans are fine with a belt).
There has been those that have said, "when wearing a vest there is no need to wear a belt", or even saying one shouldn't wear the belt & buckle when a vest covers it. I wear the belt & buckle anyhow. I wear the kilt in Australia mostly for Scottish Country Dance socials etc.
EDIT: I see my question has already been answered by others here.
Sothern English guy here, the first time I wore a Kilt it did wonders for my lower back.
I want to have a go at that shop and burn down my credit card! BTW if you are wearing the vest you can wear braces or suspenders under it to keep the kilt planted. As a piper, I do not have access to my hands to tug the kilt up when it slides down when not wearing a belt.
I was told you don’t wear a belt with Bonnie Prince Charlie jacket
You don't have to....it will also "clank" when it hits the cantel of the full dress sorren when you sit down so is sometimes left off for that reason also.
He might be going to a warm house and anticipating relaxing the coat and vest during the evening and wants the belt to complement the relaxed look?
What's the approximate cost of a full kit in USD?
Hundreds and hundreds! It can cost thousands
if you need to ask, you cannot afford it
Brad, it could possibly cost you between $700 to 1,000 depending on the weight and the yardage of tartan used to make the kilt. When you make a purchase they could ask you 1 which tartan 2 weight of the fabric 3 length in yards. Good luck.
Im actually planning a cosplay of a male version of gray wolf from the anime kemono friends and do have a kilt
Awesome
Your wear the seat at 2.05 😂
Shouldn't wear a belt with a waistcoat it's bad form. Good video though.
This "expert" is clueless. One does not wear a belt with a jacket.
with a jacket, yes. With a waistcoat, NO!
@@WillVafuth The belt is not typically worn with a waistcoat or with a dress sporran.
I would like to wear the kilt for me to wear the kilt would be an experience amazing because I am of a culture different that Scottish culture
I know how to dress like that, but don't have a kilt or a tweed. Those are expensive.
Number one mistake...wearing a belt with a vest. I wouldn't call him an expert dresser. But an expert salesman.
