AWESOME VIDEO! I have used your technique several times, I find having a helper align the odd shaped plastic is best because clamping is not always possible. I also found using a 1 1/4” wide putty knife with a riveted wood handle to be better than a screwdriver because you can heat the knife to get into tight places and use the blade to melt the wire mesh into the plastic and / or use the putty knife as a heat shield to protect fragile pieces near your repair or you can hold it in front of the heat gun to direct airflow to tight spots. THANK YOU for sharing your knowledge!
Bought a 1999 Gator with many cracks and breaks on plastic fenders and bumpers. Watched your video, bought the hardware cloth, bought a heat gun and went to it. It looks really good. Thank you so much for your help. You helped me save hundreds.
That was one of the most informative and satisfying videos I have watched for a long time . It’s relevant to me as I have quad bikes with damaged plastics . Thanks
Glad I came across your video man... I was about to spend 80 bucks on a plastic welding kit when I already have a heat gun and mesh wire. I appreciate it a lot!
Dam good video! Great info and definitely makes me realize things do not have to be over thought! Thank you!very simple and effective I really liked the clamp scene!
Glad I stumbled onto this old vid. I was just given a John Deere tractor that has a huge crack along the middle of the hood and also on a couple bolt locations. I have tried epoxy, super glued strips of plastic, and still nothing has been strong enough or last long to hold. This is a simple idea I see working very well. Will be trying this out to save me $100 on a new hood from the dealer. Thanks for posting this even if its been 3 yrs ago.
I’m late coming across this video but I have the same problem with my old J/D riding mower hood. I was wondering if you tried this and if so, how did it work out?
IF you get some ABS plastic ( I Beam coat hanger in you closet) cut it into pieces and put in a cup of Acetone overnight. By morning the plastic will be like puddy and the acetone just sitting on top of it. I did this with dry wall mesh tape on a motorcycle faring. worked great . also used to patch holes. That being said I do like this how to vid. Will add to my toolbox in my head.
Thanks very much for your video. My son was helping us work on the deck and when he stood up he slipped on something and knocked a hole in the top and there are about 7 small pieces from his fist. Do you think it would be easier to piece all the small pieces back together first and then put the larger repair back into the larger hole? I would like to see a close up photo of the front side.
I have a Kobota tractor BX24 and a John Deere X320 mower, both have plastic hoods. Will this method work on that type of plastic? Currently I have 2 cracks on my Kobota hood and I need to do something before I continue working on my yard projects, to protect it from further cracking.
@@BSpotBuilds your right wow my buddy borrowed one of my bikes and left the box opened the wind took it and broke it right off really bad. Did your trick and its solid again. I also did it on my xmr with a 3 foot crack in it. It doesnt look very good because I didnt want to take the rad hoses off to get the front plastics off but wow its strong.. thank you so much for posting this video what an awesome trick
First:...Great ideas and workmanship....Second: block the Jamie Mullins guy, he just posts rhetoric stuff to hurt your comment section, or he is just that far gone in life, either way he is bad for the channel!
This guy rocks, one of the only good plastic repair videos out there. Kick ass job man.

Wow! This guys is like a "plastics surgeon"! Awesome repair video!
Definitely the best plastic repair idea I’ve seen yet!
Clamping to squeeze the piece was genius. Thank you!

I really like the clamping system that you used; very smart!

Great video, thanks for taking the time to do it. Now to the hardware store for the wire, and then start my repair.
Man I wish I had seen this before . Repaired some cracks on atv with the zip tie trick but this is way better thanks
Glad I came across your video man... I was about to spend 80 bucks on a plastic welding kit when I already have a heat gun and mesh wire. I appreciate it a lot!
Same here!
Your welcome.
I hate to admit it, but the last piece you put in, I actually blew on the screen to cool off the part, great instructional, thank you
Excellent video. Thank you for sharing your techniques. I learned something very useful. Thanks for taking the time to make the video!
Sir, great video, fantastic instructor. With the poor quality of John Deere tractor hoods this should be available for everyone
Fantastic job, great idea! I will use it.
Thank you,
Joe

@@stevee7774 It did work and held up for awhile. I eventually found a fiberglass repair kit from Walmart that has worked better.
Josh Brumbalow - Good to know. I was actually thinking of combining those two methods on mine. Thanks for the reply!
I was skeptical at first but your technique works !!
best darn plastic repair video i\ve seen all night
This is great! I was going to use some 3M adhesive but this seems better, faster, and cheaper!
Darn what a great idea, one of those why didn't I think of that. Great job thank you.
Thank you bud! This is going to work great on my ATV.
Great video, and great job! Very informative on plastic repairs.
You, sir, are a genius! Thanks for posting this video!
I think the heat gun works much better than the welding tools. Good job!
Great video . . . Will be using this method this weekend
WOW mate, that's a Masterclass 👏👏👏👏
Very nice I will be using this method from now on. Great video
That was great. I'm going to fix my john deer tractor hood the same way.

greatt idea, thanks for sharing. i'vebeen watching your other videos and you definitely know how to get things done.
best plastic repair video I have seen , thanks
Good job on heat control looks better and will hold Cain.t ask for much more than that. Super thanks.
Awesome video! I just made a similar video on how to repair a cracked hood on a John Deere riding mower. 😁👍
I have same gator with same cracks.... I like this alot better than zip ties
Jason Patterson zip ties. That's funny.
Best repair job on you tube ! Great Video!
he looks like an 80's singer
Very nifty ...stronger than plastic weld ...great video.
GREAT JOB!!! THANKS FOR SHARING YOUR IDEAS!!!
Top Video, Thanks. Good advise with the mesh.
Good stuff!!
Thanks 4 sharing!!
Excellent instruction and video. How's the long term durability of these repairs? Thanks!
good job thanks for sharing
Great job! I have a fender that's missing a large section, I'm gonna try and scab something into it. Amazing how fast that heats up!?
This repair looks stronger than plastic welding.
Best video I've seen
Thanks
Very well done Sir!
Excellent vid. Works great
Great Video! Best way i have ever witnessed

Nice Job Man Thanks For Posting This Video.
Awesome,thanks for posting!
Very well done!
THANK YOU - thank you - thank you!
Thank you for sharing this!!!!
this video is very helpful thanks
Nice video I must say. Do you think using milk jugs as a filler would work if you are missing plastic?
Now that sounds like another good idea! You could probably layer them up to get the thickness closer to what you want as well.
Great video! Would you recommend using cut pieces of hose clamps or is wire mesh the way to go? Thanks!
Hardware cloth will bind into the plastic better than hose clamps.
were can you get the hardware cloth
@@mariosciore3527 Most hardware stores or ebay.
@@BSpotBuilds thank you
What amp draw or watt heat gun do you recommend?
The gun I use is 1200 watts and it works well.
Nice work
Nice. Would fiberglass have worked on this? Would that be easier?
Fiberglass will not bond to HTPE
Have you ever considered using fibreglass to repair ATV parts? The finer glass sheets and resin. Wondering if it would hold.
I don't believe it will bond to HDPE not much will.
I’m gonna give it a try since I got nothing to loose. Thanks!

Same problem here with J/D crappy plastic hood!
Can I use a propane torch instead of a heat gun?
I found it a lot harder to control the temperature with a torch. With a heat gun I never scorched the plastic, this was not true with a torch.
Brilliant!
Excellent
Awesome video is the 1/4 inch hardware cloth 19 guage??
I don't remember, But it's not that important the mesh is much stronger than the plastic.

humm you've got a mill with digitials. Need moar vids of your house project.
Nice repair tips. Good looking dog. What kind is it? Looks just like mine but mine's a mutt.
Just like yours pure mutt.
Any idea what heat range you used from the gun?
+sgf13 ---The gun I used is 1200 watts and it provided plenty of heat.
Thanks. I plan to give this repair a try. The gun I'm considering using has 572/1112 dual temp. so I should be fine.
why couldn't u repair it on the back side and where do u get hardware cloth I never heard of it
I do repair it on the backside, hardware cloth is available at most hardware stores. www.homedepot.com/s/hardware%2520cloth?NCNI-5

Is that ABS? If it is you could use a 3d printing pen to lay some ABS in the areas that have missing plastic, ABS sands out nicely.
+mine123 It's LDPE more or less it is virtually impossible to glue.
Hey there I saw you had a Carters T shirt on, how did you come by that? Just wondering if you are in NZ
I built a house in NZ sometime ago, and they gave me a shirt.
And a pair of Redband gumboots
Genius
"for mortals" ??
Simple, easy, no expensive tools anybody can do it.
my good so thank you I can repairs my scooter electrique by this manipulation but i need hot gun
Why is everything made of plastic? Cause we are all living in a plastic world 🌎
