Last vid for the night - It is 2.45am here! Love your cinematography, music choices, editing & the little things you filmed along the way as well as your thoughts & commentary, Crystal.... Hope I've spelled your name right. I've now finished re-walking the entire WHW with you, ending with the start! And given the dosh, I'd do it all again next year...or mebee somewhere different. Your Great Glen vids will be next!

Good stuff you two and welcome back to Scotland.
I think a lot of people really underestimate the WHW, or try to rush it. Because people have done other long distance walks they think it’ll be easier than it actually is. Unsure exactly why it is that way, of course the Scottish weather, constantly changing terrain, the weight you carry, it all contributes, but even after doing it myself 7 times, I still get loads of blisters and ligament issues.
My recommendation to people considering it. If you’re an average walker I recommended pacing yourself and doing about 10-12 miles per day. Do the trip over about 7-10 days, 8 is about ideal for me.
The first few days your body will be in pain but then it’ll acclimate to it more.
    - Get Compedes for blisters and replace every couple of days.
    - Change socks every 5 miles roughly and rub in some oil during that switch.
    - Carry less food and gear than you think, the walk is popular and you have options pretty much the whole way. Honesty boxes, villages and more.
    - Wild camp wherever you can but make sure you have a midge head net at the very minimum

I just finished The East Highland Way, if you enjoyed the WHW then it’s something for you two to consider. It’s a lot less known but definitely worth it, but for that one you really need to plan as there’s nowhere near the level of places to get stuff along the way.
My videos for that are going up as we speak so you can get a rough idea 😉

Really appreciate this video. I’m planning to do it in 2025 with my son. I like you have been to Scotland and fell in love with it. This video made me literally weep with anticipation. There’s something about the place that captures you in the deepest places of your soul. Thanks again!

I really admire you Crystal! I feel for your physical challenges because I similar ones like a degenerative disc in my spine, I have flat feet instead of high arches, etc., every year there’s a new challenge. I will be 60 soon so I’m getting quite the collection of ailments 😂, but like you I never let that stop me.
You’re so fortunate that you have a supportive husband who goes along with you unlike mine who just wants to be a couch potato.
I do know from past experiences that hiking poles are very handy going uphill! Plan on doing the Camino Portuguese, St. Olav’s Way that I learned about when I visited Uppsala, Sweden, etc.😊 I plan to do these within my physical limits, meaning slow. Keep up the great videos!❤️❤️❤️

Regarding moving to Scotland you might google how to move to Scotland from the US. When I visited Scotland several years ago I stopped by their immigration office to ask a similar question but because I was born in Europe (this before Brexit) and am Canadian it would be easier for me than if I was American. Of course requirements always change so getting updated information so if you get an email address for Scottish immigration you can ask them directly. Good luck!🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

@@MaylesTrails😂 Your reading comprehension is certainly poor. Like I said I actually visited Scottish immigration not UK. Even if you Google it it will bring to the correct page with the email!😂😂
Your comment is very rude, arrogant and uncalled for.

I didn't mean to sound rude, sorry. I live in the UK. I'm not saying that you can't find immigration advice in Scotland, just that you're going to have to apply to UK immigration.

Great video's. As a Scot i enjoy watching these type of video's whether it be Hiking, motorbiking or driving through Scotland to see peoples reactions to the ever changing beautiful scenery, history and of course the 4 seasons in 1 day scenatio!! Im glad you're alternating hard days with easier days as you'll benefit from it, especially then you get to Glencoe area and take on the " devils staircase " , but from then on its downhill all the way, which Brian will be pleased about. There are going to be challenges ahead but with you able to encourage each other along the way you'll breeze it. There is one lesser known walk on the Isle of Skye takes you from top to bottom ( or vice versa ) with places to stop along the way if you so wish. The most beautiful scenery along the way as a bonus. Its not a long walk but there are a couple of challenging sections if you take the Cuillin mountains route to Elgol. If you ever decide its something you'd condider i would advise on booking a few months in advance as Skye is very popular all year round.
Beannachd leat ( Good luck )

I have followed you all through your Camino and now this. But I just laughed so hard when you said you bought 20 pairs of shoes. After watching 100’s of videos of the Camino I am sure I bought 20-30 pairs of shoes!!! I leave for the Camino August 15, 2023. With one pair of shoes and a pair of sandals. I have loved all your videos and you have been a huge inspiration! I am looking forward to doing the Coast to Coast in England and the West Highland Trail together in the next year or so after my Camino. Keep pressing forward one glorious step at a time! I hope Brian enjoyed his many “wee drams of Whisky”!!!

Did the WHW last year on a 8 day itinerary and this brings back some memories. Yeah, the first day isn't that easy. Ok, not so many miles but the body needs to get used to it. I also felt quite exhausted at the end of the day but it was all worth it. But some Guinness at the Clachans with some fish 'n chips brought back all my animal spirits.
I also bought a 18year small whiskey bottle at Glengoyne bit I carried it all the way to Fort Williams. It was my trophy at the finisher monument ;-)
Hope you'll get less rain than I experienced. And no blisters. I got a really big and painful one on the third day. That was no fun. I almost thought I had to quit...
    Happy walking & Slainte mhath
