I just set an automation shortcut to turn on my midea matter windows ac unit if the temperature is above 70° when I leave work so my bedroom is nice and cool when I get home. I was using the weather app to find the weather conditions and temperature outside

    Another great video!
I use a button at the front door to set the house in away mode. This turns off all the lights, turns on the alarm, locks the door (after it's closed) and turns on both robot vacuums. The reason I don't trigger this on location is that I want to make sure the automation actually fires correctly (don't want to take the chance that the door is unlocked and alarm is off when I'm not home), but also so the house doesn't shut down if a guest is still in the house. I do track some guest through wifi, but sometimes they have their wifi turned off.
The button is a Shelly Dimmer 2 where I use the long press on the second switch input. I run all my automations in Home Assistant.
I'm curious why you chose to use a smart plug as a workaround for locking and turning on the alarm, when you already have Home Assistant running?

All great points. I have virtual switch set up as babysitter mode which I set when I have guests and don’t want certain automations to trigger.
Really I set up the smart plug for this video to showcase how it can be done in HomeKit without the use of any additional apps or helpers like home assistant or homebridge

My apple homekit doesn't see any smart tech in my home except homepods and the apple tv+ box.

I have an Aqara motion sensor under my nightstand. When it senses motion after 515am it will turn on the bathroom lights dim and slowly get brighter. It also turns on my TV to the news, the kitchen light and starts brewing my coffee. Then when my Aqara door sensor detects the front door close after 550am it turns everything off. Most of it all setup in home assistant.

Incredible use of a motion sensor

Using home assistant you would just add a transition timer to the automation
