On the quadriplegic commentary, all of it sidesteps the most basic question:
How many quadriplegics are actors? My guess would be none. Real quadriplegics have bigger issues than breaking into the movie business.
And even if there is one, if the production company is paying Bryan Cranston to be in their film, the implication in THAT alone says they needed an elite actor that is currently popular. And Cranston was at the peak of popularity from Breaking Bad in 2017 when the film was cast. This brings up the next question:
How many ELITE quadriplegic actors are there? I doubt there's few, if any, actors who are quadriplegic, let alone top level actors. So what do they do?
I could be completely wrong, I'm not trying to be a jerk about it, but the realistic logistics are ignored in favor of crapping on an actor for doing his job .

Not only that stuff, which is all perfectly valid. But -and I don't know the movie so forgive me, but - if the movie portrays _how_ this person became a quadriplegic, they're going to need an actor that can walk and talk for the scenes _before_ he's bed-ridden. 🤷🏽‍♂️

Women can solve the problem of low turn out at women's sports games. First, they have to show up at the games, consistently, and quit going to men's sports games. If enough of them did that, the men would notice. Then they'd follow. Good reaction. Thanks for sharing. Stay safe.

    • @joshbull623
      @joshbull623 Год назад

They wouldn't even necessarily need to give up going to mens sports too. Often the games are not scheduled the exact same in the first place, and usually mens schedules extend beyond womens, in the the case of the NBA vs WNBA, men play more than twice the games women do. So you could watch women and still have an entire half of the season to watch for men if you did decide to forgo one for the other, which you don't have to always do.

Hi Britt. Really enjoy your reactions. Re: the Bryan Cranston question, I'm sure they could have found a quadriplegic who would work for less than Bryan, including any special services they required. However, if you were a casting agent you should also know that the reason they were willing to pay more for him was the value of his box office appeal. It's no different than men's pro sports vs. women. More eyes = more $. Off hand, I can't name any quadriplegic actors who are well-known, at least since Christopher Reeves passed away.

As far as Bryan Cranston playing a quadriplegic.......The people complaining are missing a huge factor. People go to the movies to see movie stars. Back in the 80s and 90s, a so so movie might come out. But as soon as you stuck the name Stallone, or Arnold, or Van Damm to it, it instantly becomes a huge blockbuster. The name Bryan Cranston, will bring in viewers. Some unknown actual quadriplegic is not going to. That's kind of important.

It's actually not that difficult when you think about it. I'm a man and I've done boxing, participating in several matches. There was a woman of my weight who was a professional and fought in multiple countries. Before I had any matches, she was much stronger than me, but as I got older and fought more matches, I became much better than her, even though I was still a novice and not a professional. The reason why women's sports will never become as big is that people usually watch sports that they themselves have participated in. I still watch boxing, but only men's matches, because what they do is something I could never do. When I watch women's boxing, what they do is good, but it's not something I couldn't do myself.

Britt, I hope you won't mind my making a small comment about a phrase that you use -- and perhaps I'm not hearing your words clearly. But on 2 of your videos that I've listened to recently (and I love your reactions, BTW), I've heard you say "mitigated gall" when the actual phrase is "UNmitigated gall." To "mitigate" something means to reduce its impact or severity, as in "We need to find a way to mitigate [reduce, soften] the economic effects of global warming on 3rd world nations." If something has been "miitaged" it means the impact or harm was not as bad as it might have been. When someone speaks with "UNmitigated gall", on the other hand, it means that the offensiveness of what they said was in no way reduced, softened, or compromised. That is the way the phrase is commonly used, in my understanding. Just sayin'!

TRUE STORY: I'm in a mini-mansion, sitting under one of the minor Picassos and eating strawberries I'm dipping in a table-sized chocolate fountain made for the purpose, when a fellow-black Harvard student (I was in grad school, he was undergrad) decides to let out a sigh and something about our supposed shared-oppression. When he saw I refused to bond around anything as blatantly idiotic as our eating chocolate-covered strawberries in a mansion under a (admittedly) lesser work of the master's and weeping bitter tears about the awful deal we have here in America he quietly returned to dunking strawberries in chocolate and a good time was had by all. But it took me pointing out the ridiculousness of the situation for him to stop telling those of us gathered there at the time how awful it all somehow was. I think we also were drinking white wine at the time. That, or (sensibly-priced) champagne. Oh, the misery!

on the quadriplegic actor issue, you listed some reasons why they might not have gone with a handicapped actor, but I think that it's much simpler than that. Bryan Cranston is a phenomenal actor. Who cares if there are quadriplegic actors that could have done it. Would they have brought the same intensity, nuance and professionalism that comes with someone like BC? Maybe. Doubtful, but possible. But with BC you know what you're getting and it's high quality acting.... so hiring him was a no brainer. Just my opinion.

why should men watch women's sport? like it's not even a sexist thing like we genuinely don't feel any excitement to even know how they are performing.

It's hard to argue a topic that talks about sports and gender. One of the reason is that there are sports where women have better audience than men which is Volleyball. Yes, men are highly competitive but the balls are just to fast to track with your eyes. The rally in men's volleyball is too short because they always go for the kill. On the other hand women's volleyball is better cause you can actually see the ball and have that long rally which builds up the tension.

just cos i'm a bball head, i gotta ask; was the nailbiter you describe like 45-43? cos i don't watch male D1 ball cos it's so trash and it's like 60-58. I can't talk myself into watching bad basketball... that's literally it. it has nothing to do with women v men. just bad basketball is bad.
I think the most compelling way to empower womens' sports might be to emphasize things that women are better than men at. gymnastics for example. i think simone biles is one of the best athletes ever and watching her compete always feels top tier.

If you want a real quadripelegic to play that part in a movie, great! Unless the movie has to start off with him shown walking earlier in life. That would be a tough one to pull off. Maybe they interviewed a few quadripelegics for the movie, but weren’t good enough actors to get the part. Who knows. Even better get a life if that bothers you that much. 😂😂😂

Find a quadriplegic actor who is good, which there are many, that can also be on set for 18 hour shoot days for 3-6 months without a rapid decline in the quality of life.... and then who's also WILLING to do so, and you'll have your answer as to why they hired bryan cranston.

the thing is, and it has been proven; men are viewed much more because we simply carry more natural athleticism, and when we train that natural athleticism, we become monsters within our chosen sport. professional women teams have been absolutely obliterated by high school boys teams, and you can look it up if you like lol. you never see women on a b-ball court dribbling with precise skill around 4 other players and then dunking while swinging on the hoop after. this is why men are viewed much more, because we are more entertaining. just the facts.

There are more men that go to sports games, and a lot of men refuse to watch women's sports. In my country, similarly to the US, the women's soccer team do WAY better internationally, but unless it is a world championship, men don't want to watch their games. My dad does. He is constantly complaining about TV-channels not showing women's sports more. But it's a vicious circle. Women don't get even close to the same airtime as men do, but the Sports channels are afraid to lose viewers because they know a lot of men would never watch it.
In my country women get a lot of attention for handball and skiing, and both men and women are interested in seeing women compete in these sports. Soccer? Nope! Not even if the women actually make it to the world championship every time, and our men's team NEVER qualify.
