nostalgia made ME cry, too! Guitar solo by Craig Chaquiro, amazing guitarist for Jefferson Starship, got to join a major rock band and tour the world, playing huge festivals while still only a teenager, due to his phenomenal talent!
I sent an email to Joe Clokey about releasing the song a while ago. He told me this: "Thanks for loving that song! That would be great to take the sound fx out and have "Take Me Away" released as a song. It would take going back to the original multi track recording and using a sound studio. I will definitely put that on my to do list when I'm doing production work in the future. To do it right now would be very expensive. So glad you like the song!". Don't lose hope!
Love how it sounds like a 1980s song, even though the movie was actually produced in the early 90s (production wrapped up in 1992, IIRC, but it didn't get released until 1995.)
I know right? Sounds totally like an 80s Glam Metal song, even thought the movie was made in the 90s. They probably could've used a Grunge sound, but for Gumby I don't think it would've made much sense.
lyrics to the song Oh. . .Gumby Oh. . . The day that I met you I lost a piece of my heart. Now I've got you here, nothing's going to keep us apart. I don't have to worry, I don't have to hurry now. You are all I need. I know we can make it somehow. We're making a breakthrough, heading for a fall Gumby, how can I make you see me at all? Take me away Oh Gumby, you do something to my chemistry Take me away Oh Gumby, you are a total mystery You're green, you're clay, you're a cosmic display How can I go on this way? Oh Gumby Oh Take me away Trouble to the left, danger to the right; I feel it all around. As long as you are near, there's no need to fear, and I won't back down. I know you're the answer to all of my dreams. Now that we're together, birds of a feather, we're the perfect team. Take me away Oh Gumby, you do something to my chemistry Take me away Oh Gumby, you are a total mystery You're green, you're clay, you're a cosmic display How can I go on this way? Oh Gumby Oh Take me away Oh Gumby Oh Take me away Oh Gumby Oh Take me away
Chills every time I hear this song along with nostalgia. One of the first songs I learned to sing, one I wish there was an instrumental to so I could attempt to cover it. The lyrics are so heartfelt, perfectly mirroring how most people feel when they have a crush on someone ('How can I make you see me at all?').
The closest thing to experiencing a drug trip without the drugs.... AND THE BEST DAM NON-DRUG INDUCED TRIP EVER!!!!!!! The songs corny as all hell but good god in the great way. ROCK ON GUMBY!!!! you magnificent...green.....thingy??? The closest to Gumby we Brits got was a character called Morph invented by the late great Tony Heart. Saddly Morph never got an awesome song like Gumby did.
Its odd because Gumby was around when I was a little kid, I remember getting a little green rubber Gumby and orange Pokey for Christmas and I was around 8, so for at least 55 years or so, he's been bringing cheer to children! If you watch the 1980's classic Spinal Tap comic parody of a rock band, lead guitarist Nigel Tufnal has the same rubber Gumby in his shirt pocket while on stage. "If you've got a heart, then Gumby's a part of you..." judging by the music, this song was done in the 1980's..
Just noticed that Goo wasn't around during the taping session...There can only be ONE explanation. Goo was not seen past this except beforehand, bbut did not appear after. This means she was jealous of Tara which stimulated a murder plot to kill evdryone after the picnic scene and that's why Gumby stopped airing on TV because he is dead. Gumby was shot point blank, Tara was physically torn apart from limb to limb, and everyone else was gassed to a permanent coma. Goo then suffocated herself in a plastic bag, and the whole gang was not seen afterwards. ..No one knows of their whereabouts, nor remembers who they were...They were VAPORIZED.........This would a perfect robot chicken skit, lol.
Good point. Gumby apparently broke up his old band with Pokey, Prickle and Goo, and formed a new band with the Buckle Clayboys, and then he dumped Goo in favor of Tara...
Oh, Gumby, oh The day that I met you I lost a piece of my heart Now I got you here Nothing's gonna keep us apart I don't have to worry I don't have to hurry now You're all that I need I know we can make it somehow We may gonna break through Heading for a fall Gumby, how can I make you See me at all? I'm here because Rifftrax riffed it fairly recently. I didn't grow up with it; I don't have any nostalgic attachment to it. But MAN does the music rock. Even with Mike, Kevin, and Bill making jokes, pointing out how trippy any thing was or how faulty the logic could be, I still thought to myself "Man, a song in a Gumby movie has NO RIGHT going THIS hard." This is genuinely impressive and beautiful. Go, Gumby Movie!
You mean as your childhood crush from Clay Animation Movie? I had childhood crush too but not from Clay Animation or Clay Animation Movies but in movies, TV Shows and cartoons. Then later children books, once from a comic book of Street Fighter 2 (Chui Li), then commercials or ads on TV, video games and Anime Manga. Back in early and mid 90's. Also teenage crushes but the same as before from my time.
I remember watching A Gumby Movie when I was eight in 1995. First time it came out in 1995 on VHS; I'm not so sure on Laser Disc; but it could be both version back in the 90's. Also could be on DVD, I don't know if is on Blu-ray let.
First i like Gumby Second i like the song "Take me away" Third i remember my childhood Fourth if only i can turn back time Thank you Gumby for the memories when i was a kid watching you on t.v.
I was also obsessed with it, and wanted to watch it over and over but it also creeped me out when I was younger, there was something painful or scary about it and I always wanted to cry for Gumby for some inexplicable reason. The visuals and sounds were sometimes like sad or harsh? like the dog tears sounding like coins in a cash register symbolizing tears/sadness/pain is making energy for another group of beings and that being a very sad subliminal concept.
Production was started in 1988 and completed in 1992. Despite this, Premavision was unable to find a distributor for this movie until 1995, when they found a small company named Arrow Releasing (not to be confused with Arrow Films). Despite the on-screen title Gumby 1, there never was a Gumby 2.
I always love this song video so much when I was a little girl because it is one of my favorite songs videos And I really think that it is so amazing and so cool animation music video in the whole world as always ⭐️.
Bruh!!!!!!!! I use to replay this all the time....wore out the mf vhs tape!!!!! That beat go so hard!!!!! Take me away back to that place because eventhough we weren't rich, them family movie nights were just............
this would be a perfect love song if you replaced any mention of gumby or clay with something else, like "oh gumby" to "oh baby" and "you're great, you're clay" to "my heart, you slay"
I would love to show my boyfriend this song, but because of the fact it's about gumby, it wouldn't make sense to show him lol. Someone should definitely remix this at some point! Or even add this version to spotify.
There is no romance! They barely know each other, but that doesn't mean they can't dance together! It's not like they make out or anything, she just ends up in his video. :)
I love how in the Pingu series, Pingu and Pingi’s romantic relationship is developed with slowly forming chemistry in Pingu’s Admirer instead of being forced like Gumby and Clara’s romantic relationship in Gumby: The Movie, based on Gumby, (While Gumby and Pokey’s brotherly relationship is executed much better.) Thomas while not romantically involved in Emily does soon get a love interest in Thomas: The Great Race based on Thomas and Friends. Related to Gumby and Pokey’s and Pingu and Robby’s brotherly kind of relationship, Pingu at the Wedding Party, based on Pingu, as well as The Little Bear Movie based on Little Bear and Franklin: Turtle Lake Treasure based on Franklin also have good examples of three protagonists who already have love interests (Pingi for Pingu, Emily for Little Bear and Otter for Franklin.) but form sibling or cousin relationships with their cousins and friends, including Franklin forming a good relationship with his godcousin and his Aunt Sarah’s goddaughter Lucy in Turtle Lake Treasure and Pingu forming a good relationship with his own cousin Pingki and Little Bear and Cub formed a brotherly relationship of some kind.
I remember renting this movie at the Rental Video Store from Los Angeles, California. I wanted to rent The Land Before Time 3 but somebody rented that movie, so I rent A Gumby Movie. Remembering the 90's.
Gumby and Terra are adorable together but honestly I think she was only added as a celebrity guest in Gumby’s world, you know how that is, ESPECIALLY in movies today, notice how she’s technically not officially either as she appeared in nothing else Gumby related since. XD I ship them, but I honestly ship Gumby more with Goo as she is an original character and everything, they are cute together honestly. 😊
Love how even though the movie was completed in 1992 (but not released until 1995), "Take Me Away" sounds a lot like a 1980s song!
Thanks art clokey for creating this character you truly are a Walt Disney congratulations 👏
@@FriedFrogLegsAnimations but unfortunately this was not his best film, though stilll visually charming despite inferior to Aardman
Still a great piece of work imo
I agree, and I can't get over it, as a result!
Art Clokey was the guy who pioneered animation using clay. Rest In Piece
10/12/1921-1/8/2010
Holy shit so I didn't hallucinate this whole thing when I was like 5.
SaxMtC 😂😂 right? I’m here for proof!!
I thought the same thing omg
The genius of Art Clokey, God rest his Soul!
And Dallas McKennon, voice of Gumby
I was obsessed with this movie and this song was the best part of the movie 😭 nostalgia hitting hard. 💓💓💓 the guitar solo tho 😍🎸🎼🎶
nostalgia made ME cry, too! Guitar solo by Craig Chaquiro, amazing guitarist for Jefferson Starship, got to join a major rock band and tour the world, playing huge festivals while still only a teenager, due to his phenomenal talent!
Me too man.
I feel the same way!!!!

that answers my inquiry XD, would love an HQ mp3 of this without the sound effects, would make a great tune to listen to on the go
That'd be awesome to have a HQ mp3 of this song and the one that plays over the credits.
I'd remix it myself if the files got digitized...
iTunes version also would be awesome
Who is Joe Clokey? Is that Art's grandson?
My 5yr old daughter is obsessed with Gumby and watches this movie on repeat 😅
I did the same thing! Especially this scene!
Love how it sounds like a 1980s song, even though the movie was actually produced in the early 90s (production wrapped up in 1992, IIRC, but it didn't get released until 1995.)

wileyk209zback It sounds like it came out in '88.
I didn't know they made that movie in '92.
@@drummingdanny84that’s actually when production started so makes sense lol
Man those Guitar rifts, this is why I come back and listen to this song. The beginning and ending is just awesome!
Those guitar riffs are courtesy of Craig Chiquico, former Jefferson Starship guitarist.
Same love it just wish they would put the soundtrack on itunes
Same here. Love it!
Wow the detail on the guitar playing.
So many great memories
Thank you Gumby, You took me away to Old memories
the guitar strumming in this video is awesome, plus the ending guitar solo was perfect
This song is so damn good. I'm glad It popped in my head randomly. I remember watching this as a kid so many times.
Same!!!
I had the Gumby theme in my head today and it led me to destroying the replay button on this forgotten banger.
Thumbs up if you still have this movie on VHS!!
In Memory of Art Clokey (October 12 1921-January 8 2011)😞 He should have been a 100 years old
this song rules classic 90's!
Sounds more like it's from the 80s :P
erain martinez too bad it's not on Itunes

I still sing this song to myself all the time. It’s burned into my psych.
Same with me and my brother
Dude. Same.
its the best honestly
Holy crap same though.
Seriously, such a hip song for a kid's cartoon. 💚
Ra - I know things, I see things, I grow things you should listen to the song "This way n that" at the end credits of this movie
It helps that the guitarist of this song, Craig Chaquito, was a member of Jefferson Starship.
@@victorhernandez8723 i didn't know that
I absolutely adore this song! Tara was really expressing her feelings, and her lyrics are very deep.
I imagine someone singing like that to me.
I adore love like that, a lot
Is this song all in her head? Like she’s not in the Clayboys. I think she’s hallucinating all this while Gumby is shredding for lucky records
@@tomdarnowski7005I get where you might think that but it’s the music video they put together. Need to stretch some suspension of disbelief

Gumby ain't wearing no pants.
I learned from the best.
Neither is Tara lol
I can't imagine how long this must have taken them to animate, and it must have been a pain in the ass to animate this.
What else can be said?
Kids movie or not this is a banger of a music video.
Damn this brings back good memories I loved this movie and the TV series.
Me too XD
Wow I haven’t seen this in 20 or more years. What a memory
Man I watched this movie so many times as a kid. Good stuff ;D
As much as this movie underwhelms me, this song still withstands the test of time. Sort of reminds me of a Roxette song?
I’ve loved Gumby since I was a kid. And I still love him today. 😍😍
This is such a delightfully silly acid trip. Loved Gumby as a kid. I wish there would be something new done with this property.
Apparently Fox is gonna make a new kid series and other for more adult audiences
Fond memories of this movie. I found it to be actually a lot darker than expected and have a really great music video. Even now I find it impressive.
I love this song and I love the gumby movie I bought it on blu-ray !!
This brings back so many memories, and is the reason why I like metal and rock
I attribute this song and This Way 'n' That to why I've always been drawn to 80s rock, which has in turn influenced my own original songs
absolute banger 80s style song
To be 39 now I remember this awesome show as a 8 year old
I watched this so many times as a young kid. This was my life. I can’t ever forget it. This movie is me. There’s a special place in my memory for this

But you did have Aardman, the best damn claymation ever.
True that and Aardman brought made the mind blowing music video Sledge Hammer by Peter Gabrial, that video still to this day stands out.
Yu1awAngerWolf82 Also made Creature Comforts, Babylon, Wallace & Gromit, Stage Fright, the list goes on.
Why are the songs corny as hell?
Explain yourself? I find the lyrics myself interesting.

Just noticed that Goo wasn't around during the taping session...There can only be ONE explanation. Goo was not seen past this except beforehand, bbut did not appear after.
