- For Advent I'm going to be sharing with you some remarkable monuments and stories from our cemeteries!
A beautiful carpet covers the grave of the most revered ballet dancer of the 20th Century... buried in the Russian Cemetery of Sainte-Geneviève-des-Bois near Paris, Rudolf Nureyev whose legendary temper lit the stages he performed on alight!
Known for his close relationships with Dame Margot Fonteyn and dancer (and lover) Erik Bruhn, Nureyev deserted Soviet Russia in the early 60s to pursue his career in ballet. A loss to the LGBTQ community in succumbing to a virus that took many before their time: his beautiful grave gives a hint to the unique grace his dancing brought to stages across the world.
