Such growth-Tina, you have never ridden better. Lucinda breaks things down and makes them simple to remember, But still hard to do all at once, and you did it! I am so impressed.
Bottom line, she makes it obvious why you need to be disciplined and why it’s beneficial to perform a certain way EVERY time.
Charlotte DuJardin said exactly the same thing using exactly the same words at a clinic in the States a few years ago. She coached a student to get a square quiet halt, repeating it about 10 times until it was correct rather than just “close enough.” Then she let the pair of them quit, which was their reward. The last memory the horse had was of doing it correctly.
Lucinda and Charlotte are on the same page, which explains their success. Riding is mental as much as it is physical.
This is your best series ever, and that is saying something because you’ve had some darn good ones before. I’m in awe of how you push yourself. Bravo!

Lucinda is amazing. You are so fortunate to have her. She is just what you have been needing at this point in your riding. She has you riding every stride instead of going out for ride with a few jumps thrown in. You are working hard and progressing so much! You are more confident in riding than ever. Love the take charge, be strong but still ride soft effect Lucinda has you doing!!! And it works for Banksy too!!!! Well done.

Yes Lucinda can be very daunting but she was also very encouraging to you. She recognizes when you're getting a little overwhelmed and got much softer with you. Well done you two!
Also don’t know if this is helpful at all but I’ve found that with older horses (in particular if they’ve often been in strong and full work often and have the muscle memory) they seem to change shape a lot more - younger ones seem to muscle up and stay strong but I’ve found with my mare she also loses muscle very fast if she has time off.
She’s very sensitive and will let me know if things don’t fit spot on, and I’ve ended up just getting a bunch of pads/shims and adjusting what I’m using as I go. When she’s had a week off I pad her out, and when she starts to throw herself around and be strong (which I’ve realised is because she’s bulked out through her shoulders which impacts her range of movement and must feel tight) I remove layers. Getting the saddle fitted when she’s got as much top line as can be, and then packing it down to fill gaps when things aren’t sitting the same.
Kind of surprised me working all that out as I’d primarily ridden youngsters and green horses who were built from the ground up so I’d not considered it until having mine and running into the problem.
Just my experience, you have a awesome group of people around with lots of knowledge and you know your boy the best, so hope it’s ok that I’ve commented with this!

In a clinic a couple years ago with the late, great Jimmy Wofford, he had all of us (and all of the levels above and below us) count our strides out loud, including our landing. It's really cool to see that Lucinda is using some of those same strategies, and has the same ideology, as the rest of the eventing superstar instructors around the world. She is brilliant and I picked up on a lot.
For instance, I've been retraining an OTTB mare. Still early stages but I realized that I wasn't keeping her neck straight in the canter transition, because of what LF said to you, so I'm going to try to keep her voice in my head while I'm schooling transitions. I appreciate her blunt talk. Though it did feel a little harsh at first, I think it's just a matter of understanding what she's saying. And she's so open to answering questions. Fabulous instruction.
You should be so proud of how fit and and game Banks is. You've done such a great job getting the both of you to this point. Make sure you look back to remind yourself of your achievements, and give yourself a pat on the back. Looking forward to the next one!

Awesome job. It really did look like Banks was trying to bolt in the beginning and if I remember right, I've seen him do that before. I found out the hard way that if my horse was so "fresh" on a cool day after not being worked much for a couple of months, he had a tendency to not want to listen and try to bolt or buck. So, began lunging him for a bit (both with a lunge line and just free lunge in a round pen) just to get the "freshness" out of him and then he would behave like a champ. Don't ever feel bad about the tears of frustration, we've all had them. Plus, I think Banksy got all worked up because he saw the jumps and we all know he loves to jump but he also needs to listen to you. You managed to get through it and were absolutely amazing

Possibly!! I have a PS of Sweden bridle here that has a hanging cheek on it that I hack in sometimes, so might try that out before buying anything new xx

Back when i was a kid, i made a transition game for when i was hacking so i choose different things on the way (tree/trashcan/mailbox whatever really) and made some sort of transition or a halt, then counted all the successful ones so i had a score when i got home 😂 i had alot of fun with it maybe it will inspire others to do something similar from time to time 🥰

I'd rather have a horse tell me something is wrong than be stoic and break itself down trying to mask it. Listen to your horse, sit up and be proud of yourself, open those hips up girl and....get out of your head. It's nothing personal with Lucinda, every horse needs to travel the way Lucinda was working with you to get to. Every horse you ride should travel that way and it's your job to demand it😊. Be demanding with your horse, he is an athlete and so are you. Perfection equals podium ❤

Aahh, the process of training & learning. Constructive criticism is necessary to really learn something well. I felt for you in the early part, but it just goes with the learning process. Hang in there, Tina, it will pay off. You have to be a bit tough sometimes. You're an awesome person with an awesome horse and in the end, you'll be doing justice to you both. You both looked fab over the last few jumps!! You can do it Woman! 💙🐎😎

You did so well, perhaps you need to do some kind of ritual saddle exorsism with burning broken stirrup leathers and dancing round wearing manky saddle pads to chase out any bad vibes from the new saddle! I am so amazed at you for seeing that first lesson through though, I think I would have got off and had a pony club brat moment, stomped my foot and said 'stop shouting at meeeeee, waaaahhhhh I'm trying my beesssst!" So proud of you x

Lucinda is legend but when you don’t feel or need to hear brutal it can be challenging. You doing amazing and Mr Banksy although that day, tricky, is a horse and we all know how different they can be from one day to the next!! Love watching you and honestly your awesome. Tina don’t be too hard on yourself, none of our horses were easy rides , we retrained our own race horses & my absolute favourite was my boy Willy - racing stable nickname The Juvenile Delinquent ( very apt) & he was full of mischief & the zest of life - the reason I loved him so much .He was a champion & everyone loved him they all thought butter wouldn’t melt in his mouth he was incredibly athletic & they all wanted to have a ride on him . He & I were a real team & we just got better & better as time went by as you & Bansky are & will . Willy was fiercely brave & highly competitive with a huge heart as a racehorse he was what we call an adrenaline horse who won many many championship races . At only 15.3 hh when he hit open classes of races at 5 yrs of age I retired him from racing as the horses he was competing against were all well over 16hh & there strides were much bigger than his & I didn’t want to break his spirit . That spirit carried over into our horsey world of Dressage Showjumping & Eventing with never a dull moment & I wouldn’t have had it any other way - it’s what I loved & sometimes curdlsed about him . I see that special quality in Bansky learn to laugh at his antics & you’ll find the will disappear 🫠 ❤️
