@@amaris-uhmariss-barela9118 😂 My fave is when she asks “how are the kids?”. 💕 It makes me feel like we are chatting in the living room having some coffee. 🥰
I have a crochet tip. Before I start crocheting for the day I weave in any loose ends that were left from the day before. That way you are not left with weaving in ends after the project is finished. This is really good when you have a lot of color changes in a project.
I feel like a lot of beginners want to quit because they don't quite realize that a lot of crochet (in the beginning) is building up muscle memory so they feel like they can't do it because it doesn't feel "right". That was my big hurdle when I first started
I couldn't even turn my project and then would give up for another 6 months to a year, now I can name the entire type of yarn I'm looking for when searching in the craft store!
When I show someone I usually tell them it’s a case of getting your hands to do what your brain wants them to do. Go slowly, get YOUR style right, then build on that.
Oh my goodness...I'm an experienced crochet artist and some of these tips are mind blowing...the ziplock bag trick, and the imitation crab stitch, the invisible decrease...oh and the color palette and wip storage tips...thank you.
Omg that's me! I'm Amaris Barela! I had to pause the video and post on all my social medias and call my bf crying cuz you said my name! I'm so excited omg omg
“Never give up” I’ve probably crocheted millions of stitches over 30 years, but I didn’t realize how much I still didn’t fundamentally understand until I watched your videos. The way you explain everything just makes sense to me, and I’m crocheting with more confidence and speed than ever. These videos have enriched my life by taking my hobby to the next level (shout out to Tunisian). Too bad it took me 30 years to find you lol
When I need a break, I do needlepoint, or embroidery, small kits that I pick up at Thrift Stores. Since I'm on a very tight budget I buy most all of my yarn at Thrift Stores. I love to work with Scrap yarns and make new baskets or Scrap yarn blankets. I also find a lot of blankets at the Thrift stores which I take apart and reuse the yarn. Many are of quality yarn which I purchased for less than $5.00. Now that's in my budget 😉
I have a hack haha: Save ur yarn snippings and little strands that u would normally throw away. I have several bags full and i stuff my little plushies with it. 😊 Hello to all my fellow teen crocheters!!! ❤️
heck yea!! i should do that, my first plushie was saved by some old sewing projects and a bunch of random yarn clippings i had?? i have no idea why but they worked
I've been doing a deep Marie-Kondo clean of my apartment trying to declutter so I can actually get to and use my yarn without it being a huge struggle - I'm still a very new crocheter but I own SO MUCH YARN. Anyway, I already watch your videos when you release them, but I ended up re-"watching" a bunch as background noise all weekend. Your voice and cadence is just so chill and conversational and motivational and really helped push me to keep tidying and getting rid of stuff because I want to get to the end so I can crochet. So, I just wanted to drop a line to say thanks for all you do. You're the only crafts youtuber I'm subscribed to because it doesn't feel like a sales pitch or a baby's how-to or a gimmicky thing for clicks. It just sounds like a friend excitedly info-dumping about their passion because they want me to enjoy it too, and I definitely do. Thank you! ♥
I second that emotion!! Her voice has been the background to many a 'crochet corner' cleanup! And her teaching style is top notch. I have learned so much in such a short amount of time since I discovered this channel. And she's given me so many ideas! I'm a lifelong subscriber for sure!
Great tips! When gifting a crocheted item I like to include a small ball (that I’ve balled from the original cake/ball) with the item in case at some time a repair is needed.
These comments are helping me, because i only been at it a few days but learning how to hold the yarn and keep thr tension is the hardest thing. So right now i just keep practicing chains, taking them out and redoing
Bloom where you are planted! Find a new nearby yarny friend or group and still keep in touch with your Alaska yarn buddy. I know what you mean about missing your buds after a move. It can be tough to go looking for new ones, but it is SO worth it! Good luck!
I moved further south in Illinois, then we remodeled the house, then I had surgeries, then covid. Meanwhile my craft room is lonely and I sure hope to meet local people soon.
My tip is all about taking care of your hands. Fingernails filed, hangnails taken care of. Treat yourself to an excellent moisturizer. Added bonus on the moisturizer, apply it as normal right before a project with popcorn stitches and the like. I stumbled onto that one this morning. Been fighting with Bernat's Softee Baby (it likes sticking to itself). I applied a bit of hand cream after washing them and WOW, what a difference. Everything was sliding beautifully.
Some of these tips I've been doing for years..... Some of them have are some voodoo black magic GENIUS level stuff!!! I've figured out a super simple way to make sure you never forget what size hook you were using if the project & hook get separated. Place a stitch marker in last worked stitch BUT (only works with the ones that look like padlocks).... Use a fine tip sharpie to write the hook size on the flat part of plastic stitch marker.....ALSO you can put a thin coat of whiteout on it before writing the size of the hook on it. The whiteout will wash off or you could scrape it off!!!!!
The Ziplock yarn bowl alternative is genius for my house with pets!! I use yarn bowls or baskets but the balls inevitably end up on the floor or bed if I pull too hard. One drop on the bed and the yarn is COVERED in hair. Thanks for this video.
Ohh WOW.. I've know how to crochet years ago from my Nanny.. ohh, she used the smallest needles to make BEAUTIFUL Dollies.. I did learn a habit I can't break..I'm right handed with my left I don't use my finger pointed up..I grab the yarn from that finger then lower it and grab the yarn in between that and my middle finger.. I've only seen ONE person doing it..She had a video about it..Because people noticed her doing it..lol.. she couldn't stop either..And desired to not try.. it is different..I guess I dont mind.. the way she showed me..OR just my way..I wonder If there is more who do it?? I Will be saving and sharing. SUCH AMAZING TIPS!! & Ones on here..Love hugs out to y'all 🤗🙏🙏🙏🤟
I don’t keep my finger pointing up either, and never understood the purpose of it. I see people doing it, and keep thinking put that finger down and get better control over your tension lol. You do you. Whatever works best for you is correct. 😊
I am just beginning to use RUclips videos and there are lots of great ones. But yours are my favorites. Clear and concise and great camera work would be enough but you also manage to make it fun. I am so impressed that I have just preordered your new book.

I've been in and out of crochet for over 50 years. I love it but have always been discouraged with my finished products because I don't understand how colors work together. A tutorial on that topic would be well received by many, I believe. Love those earrings...gonna have to try and make some for myself!
I've been working with yarns for over 65 years, love to crochet, knit, etc. I recently started using RUclips for ideas and have found many useful websites. However, you have made my yarn life so much easier. Thank you for your presentations and ideas
New ‘scriber here-2 or three months. I absolutely LOVE your content and your attitude. Thank you for sharing your skills and making me feel good just listening to your voice. So positive! Yay!
Thanks for these tips, especially the tips about colors. I use the cutter in a box of dental floss. I have several tiny little boxes of dental floss which I got from the dentist (teeth cleanings) and i drop one into my project bag. The "flap" closes so it doesn't get tangled in the yarn. The large, standard boxes of dental floss have a cutter which you can pry out, and it has a additional hole that you can thread onto a key ring. I keep many bits and bobs on a keyring in my notions bag. Also works fabulously for embroidery projects. TSA won't confiscate, and besides, it just works!
I suggest using the fibre fill of a cheap pillow instead of buying expensive, enormous bags of it. A pillow is easier to store and cheaper than those bags! I also use a chainless foundation row as much as possible. Less work and no need to frog extra chains.
When organizing my yarn on the shelf, I like to use a small, snap-back hair barrette to anchor the end of the cake or skein of yarn down so that it doesn't unravel or dangle all over the other skeins on the shelf. This creates such a clean look on my yarn shelves, and I love it!
Love these tips! I use that invisible decrease all the time, and it's great! Love the reverse crab sitch 👌 one thing I do, instead of the cuticle nipper for on the go, I like a toe nail clipper with a good file on one arm - that way you can cut the yarn, and also deal with any jagged nails that are getting caught on the yarn on the go, too 🤷🏻♀️
I love the shell stitch but I have to confess I love all the stitches and how easy you’ve made these look. I am a true beginner. Please continue to help the beginners out because I am committed to achieve this craft. Thank you for all your help.
A beginner, started following, have subscribed because of the attracting, easy to follow informative tops of Tony’s presentations. Best tip of this video is the different foundation stitches using the bottom bump and alternatively using the single crochet. Would be great to celebrate teaching/reaching so many viewers/followers/subscribers…and possibly win a fabulous gift. Thank you Tony!!
I knit, crochet and Tunisian crochet! The last two were thanks to you, Toni! You inspired my crochet journey and recently I made my first baby blanket! I am also very proud of how my temperature blanket is coming along, and once more, thanks to you. One tip I like is to always have a pair of socks to work on, or projects in multiple crafts! Right now I have a pair of socks, another knitting project, a crochet project and a Tunisian crochet project going so if I get burnt out on something, I can just rotate it with something else! Thanks for all of the tips, Toni! Thanks also to everybody whose tips were in the video, because they were great!
I keep individual crochet projects that are in progress in gift bags. They stand up on the shelf all in a row looking tidy and are easy to grab and take with you. The bag also serves as a sort of yarn bowl while you're working on the go and can even be used that way while hooked over your wrist instead of set on a table or ground (great for public transport).
I just wanted to say that my daughter and I absolutely adore you!!! We just watched your first tips and tricks video yesterday while we refreshed our muscle memories crocheting for the first time in a while. We started using a few of your tricks and were amazed at the results, so we were so excited to see you came out with another video today with more!!! Thank you for sharing your knowledge with the rest of us, you have been a huge inspiration in my household. Much love from our home to yours!!!
UGH you have no idea how psyched i am to hear about chirp too!! i want to read more but I have a terrible attention span for actually reading, but I never want to support more amazon subsidiaries if I dont have to!!! amazing amazing great content AND great sponsors, hope they keep the money flowin your way!!
I am a good example of finding different sources for beginning crochet. I am left handed and my mom tried to teach me but she is right handed. I could never get the hang of it growing up because i was trying to learn muscle memory while also trying to inverse her hands in my head. Left handed crocheters on youtube were a godsend and i learn everything i know now from youtubers. Once i got the muscle memory down i can watch right and left handed videos to learn new stiches and patterns
So I'm still somewhat of a beginner my mom taught me when I was 7 or 8 years old and now Im 28 and still learning so much I just came across ur channel and fell in love with your tips tricks and everything in-between I can't wait to learn more and new patterns thank you for being an inspiration to all of us knitters and crocheters
Girl, I love, love, love you! These are some incredible and very unique hacks that are so useful. I am so thankful to the good Lord that I stumbled across your video. I would love to meet up with you and some other crafters from your channel but in the meanwhile I have friends that I crochet with and continue to meet other crocheters along the way. You are such an inspiration and breath of fresh air to me. Thank you!!!!!
I really love this video. I have been crocheting for 50 years and l l still learn from others. A lot of tips sometimes are found by mistake. Love your show.
Another tip: before splurging a lot of money on new hooks when you still don't really know what you're doing, check some second hand stores in your area first! I bought my first hooks this way, I found about a dozen hooks of varying sizes for a fraction of what I would've spent originally. They were a healthy combination of Boye and Susan Bates, and I still use them all the time, even more than the fancier hooks I've bought since then 🤣
I don't know if this can be counted as a hack, but for beginners, I say this: Starting a new crochet project is exciting, but TAKE YOUR TIME getting the first few rows right. Pay attention, and make sure the count is right. Know that you might have to pull it apart and start over sometimes. After the first couple rows, you can start breezing along on the pattern. Of course, I speak from experience. I love starting new crochet patterns and sometimes have to stop myself from rushing it.
Oh my goodness my cup run it over with happiness.. I love all the tips from this as well. So of which I do all ready.. I going to start playing with granny squares. Thank always blessings to you ❤
A hack that I learned the other day from an Amigurumi Facebook group is to use stitch markers to hold pieces like heads and limbs in place when you sew them. I always used sewing pins, but they wouldn't hold in place while I was sewing. The stitch markers trick is great. Thank you for the tips! I learned so much from this video, especially the WIP and palette ones.
7 is so, so important. I am a beginner at crocheting but an experienced 2D artist (drawing, painting, etc), and this is the one thing I tell all of my friends trying to get into art who try to give up or expect to be good instantly. I've been drawing all my life and improving for just as long. You're never good when you're just starting out, you have to build up to a skill level that you want to see.
I liked the crochet 1stitch at the end of the row. I have been crocheting for over 60 years and always had trouble wth the end of the row. Thank you for all the tips.
OMG - I hope I will understand all these tips some day. I have dyslexia and sequential process is so challenging for me. I am determined to crochet. Saving this video!
I found some great new hacks. I have been working over my yarn tails for years. One related tip if you are changing colors completely: use a yarn needle to work the old yarn in the top of the row below and the new yarn in the top of the new color; then, work over the tails as usual. Also, if you don't carry cuticle nippers, fingernail clippers work to cut yarn as well.
Also running the hook through your hair will do the same thing, or rubbing the hook with wax paper. The squeaky hook problem is caused by static Electricity.
Great hacks. Love the key chain idea for storing projects, index cards for labeling projects, and reaching out in the community. Love your spring vibe-pink and yellow-yes. The hacks are all good.
For the taking a break bit I alternate between knitting and crochet. Must admit I never thought of working the right side and wrong side whilst doing a granny square. Will apply this as making a blanket out of large ones
I'm a knitter and many of your ideas work for knitting too. I do agree whole heartily with join a group. Groups can help you to learn your craft or just let you get all your talking out. Thank you.
i know this video is 2 years old but omg i needed to hear the wip tips!!! i have the worst habit of assuming i'll remember where i stopped, come back to it, and either have to guess or start over. thanks!
Toni, you never fail to deliver on great information. I get so excited when I see a new video from you is available. It’s only 7:57 AM and I’ve already learned 3 new hacks from you. You’re my crochet hero!
I'd never heard of amigurumi. I'm digging in my stash right now to give it a try! And I'm sending links to your tips vids to crochet friends all over the country. THANK YOU!
Love the ziploc idea! That's great for my son as he crochets on his teaching breaks. For cutting yarn I usually use nail clippers (w/ no file) as courts have varying rules for how long something can be and if you can bring in something pointed.
I'm self-taught, been crocheting for over 40 yrs in my 50's now and didn't have RUclips back in the day. With RUclips I have learned new patterns and having so much more fun learning new things.

Luckily, I was a quick leaner. It felt amazing making my first swatch. I had so much fun learning. I started using bulky blanket yarns very quickly.

The ziplock with the hole is a great idea!
It really is!
Yes!
I agree! Such a smart and easy tip!!!
But you don't need to make a hole...can close up most of the Ziploc except enough for the yarn to come out of.

I went through so many useless videos until I found this one and Oml this has helped so much for someone who started a week ago!!! Thank you!!!!!
My hack is when learning to crochet, make sure to explore multiple ways to hold your yarn and hooks, as this can affect the way you crochet.
I just recently discovered you. I am still very new to crocheting and by far you're the best that I've come across!
I love your starting line “keep sliming it looks good on you” made me smile right away I will be subscribing!
My favorite was #26 , make friends!! Love you Toni!! ❤
I really love this video. I have been crocheting for 50 years and l l still learn from others. A lot of tips sometimes are found by mistake. Love your show.
I like the key tag and stitch marker idea for keeping track of hook size. 🙂
I’ve been crocheting for 50 years, you taught me something today! Thank you friend!
Love your style, personality, and the fact you are community oriented! Sure would love to cross your path one day! Hugs from France
What a great video - now I'm off to look at part 1. And you have the most beautiful smile. Thanks for all you share with us.
You have such an awesome personality, that I can't help but be in a good mood after watching your videos! Keep it up, it's inspiring!
This is the first time I saw you. This was amazing. Thank you ❤️
Oh my goodness my cup run it over with happiness..
I’m a beginner and new to your channel. Thank you for your great tips and sparkly energy.
I highly recommend Karin Slaughter! Her books are AWESOME!!
Totally agree...have read them all!
Love Will Trent!
I liked the crochet 1stitch at the end of the row. I have been crocheting for over 60 years and always had trouble wth the end of the row. Thank you for all the tips.
Oh I SOO LOVE ❤️ your I introductions !
Had some troubles with a “squeaky” crochet hook recently, &learned that rubbing the hook on a (dry) bar of soap does the trick!😉
Also running the hook through your hair will do the same thing, or rubbing the hook with wax paper. The squeaky hook problem is caused by static Electricity.
Thank you! You’re a joy with a lovely heart! 💖💖💖💖💖💖💖
I have discovered your channel. I am not a social media kind of person, but finding your tips and tricks made my day. Ty
I am only advance enough to use the yarn ball in the ziplock bag hack 🤭 I literally started yesterday
Freeze before frogging! That is, freeze before ripping out, especially with fluffy yarns - it gives them a temporary boost of structure.
Wow, nice to know. Thanks
Great tip.
Thank you for this😊
Great hacks. Love the key chain idea for storing projects, index cards for labeling projects, and reaching out in the community. Love your spring vibe-pink and yellow-yes. The hacks are all good.
I want to hug you and adopt you. These tips are FANTASTIC. And you're such a sweetheart. I'd love to hang out and crochet with you.
For the taking a break bit I alternate between knitting and crochet. Must admit I never thought of working the right side and wrong side whilst doing a granny square. Will apply this as making a blanket out of large ones
So glad to find you, you’re a great teacher!
"Keep smiling, it looks good on you" oh?? oh my god??? I needed this so bad today
I'm a knitter and many of your ideas work for knitting too. I do agree whole heartily with join a group. Groups can help you to learn your craft or just let you get all your talking out. Thank you.
Thanks!
Great tips. I learned to crochet from my grandma when I was 9. I’m 61 now and still learning new things. Thanks 😊
i know this video is 2 years old but omg i needed to hear the wip tips!!! i have the worst habit of assuming i'll remember where i stopped, come back to it, and either have to guess or start over. thanks!
Toni, you never fail to deliver on great information. I get so excited when I see a new video from you is available. It’s only 7:57 AM and I’ve already learned 3 new hacks from you. You’re my crochet hero!
Thank you for these tips! I have shared with my crochet friends.
