I also found the addition of the string savers made the string bed tighter. So, since the eighties I have tinkered with that variable. It seems like Fed helps his strings snap back on the serve and on those wicked slice shots.

@@RaresHidi actually it could be a huge diferenc in spin because i play with federer setup without string savers and after first week when gut starting get notch the poly is geting very hard to move so less snap-back, because it get stuck in thos notches , even for me its hard to move it with my fingers.
Roger uses natural gut in the mains and this is why he uses the string savers (and turbo pads), it’s to save the natural gut from snapping to quickly!

They increase the RPM in theory. In reality the difference is so small that you will not notice it.
