Ha brilliant. It does feel like that. What Federer was saying makes perfect sense (although I have no idea what strong tension I use) but even though Annabel was a professional players always seems alien to her
It makes perfect sense to string the longer mains at a slightly higher tension because the flex of a string corresponds to its length and thickness. The shorter cross strings should be at a lower tension to not prevent the mains to extend as the should on impact with the ball. I figured this out on my own but here's the confirmation. I go for a slightly lower tension for the crosses. Mathematically the proportion should be equal to the mains' and crosses' relative lengths.

On this: it’s a massive misconception that pro players use the latest and greatest racquets that release every year. Most of the time, when a player ‘has the latest racquet’, it’s simply just the cosmetic/paint job. Generally they’re actually using the same racquet style that they’ve been using for years and years.

using the same setup as others isn't recommended at all. How the pros tailor their racquets can be such a precise science, which is why so many of them are so reluctant to change. Rackets are not as important to rec players as they think they are. It's merely the result of brand marketing. Roger + the ATP could play with a decent non-stick frying pan. People get hung up on the racket and their arm swing. But having just spent 2 days on Centre Court, and 45 years playing, I can tell you the sport is all about how you engage and move your entire body. The racket head contact is the very last element in a choreographed kinetic chain. If you think of tennis as dance, then you're closer to understanding the sport and performing each move (stroke) well. String tension makes the difference, only once you've built strong foundations. And at RF's level, 0.001% makes a difference to his shot and mindset/confidence. Roger makes it look easy, and racket companies make you believe that it will be quick and easy fix if you buy their product. As others have mentioned, the frames the pros use are all customised + paint job. Not the retail racket. Let's pray Roger's knees make a miraculous recovery, the passion and fire is reignited, and he returns for one more Wimbledon.

Depends on the string as well. Usually softer strings like gut or multifiliment are strung 50-60#... Stiffer polyester like Luxilon 5-10# lower. Polyester strings are like cable and hard on the wrist and elbow at higher tension.
26 kg is 57.3lbs. It's important to remember that the string tension's influence on the control of the ball is also relative to a number of other factors, such as swing weight of the racquet, size of the racquet head, string pattern and type and gauge of strings used. So many factors to consider that influence the outcome, so comparing just string tensions to one another when talking about different player's racquet setups is kind of apples and oranges.
It depends on the hardness of strings, softer strings demand 50lbs up, also the weather you play in, like 40lbs is not so low for winters or so, but I never heard many pro tennis players use 40lbs tension so often.
As an Ex college... champ.. Of the 1965 Era..Those wooden Skazenger rackets... With Wing bolts on the sides to lock the Frames.. and the Strings.. It’s kg he’s talking about, so he mentions 26.5kg in the main and 25kg in the cross so that would be around 58lbs in the mains and 55lbs in the cross which is pretty tight.
I was surprised by how tight he strings it. I figured he’d be in the low 50lbs to high 40’s. I hear Mannarino strings around 25 lbs. but he’s an anomaly.
Roger is the greatest… I string at 27 pounds .. for a 105 size racket… oh.. and I have won a national championship in senior tennis.. low tension means more spin and power as we get older..
Such a weirdly pathetic, bitter comment. What has Annabel done to you? She's asking the questions to help viewer understanding. Would you prefer an esoteric chat between two ex pros? RUclips will cover that for you. Honestly...
I always have my stringer fart on my natural gut to pre-stretch them. The methane gas from fart actually loosens the natural gut strings slightly making them have great feel.
I once played against a guy who went to the bathroom during a match after he broke a string. Rather than farting, he digested a string or two the previous day.

@@MrChillywilly7 you’re being silly, Djokovic was true champ in 2007 Wimbledon, 2008 Wimbledon, 2007 us open, 2007 Aus open, 2015 Roland Garros, 2016 Wimbledon, 2011 Roland Garros and others. The atp just took them away from him and diguised it by editing the highlights to make it seem like he lose… I can assure you I was at these matches to watch so I am right and atp is corrupt
I didn't know there was this much science behind a tennis racquet...
and he only talked about the tsrings there... there's another whole world of pro racquet molds and customization that comes with it. basically no ATP top 50/100 players plays with a racquet available for the public, they're all specials models with paintjobs to make them look like the public offering.
Let the man finish his thoughts!
I have to learn many things to play good tennis. 🙂
he needs to come back
hopp schwiz
''Let me check.... The gut in the main'' 😂😂😂😂😂
Didn't he know after all these years? 😅
Roger's very good at making stuff appear more interesting than it is...
Falta conocer el grosor de la cuerda🤔
Well, I feel more educated 😌 Even books can't teach you this much...
Thanks Roger! 😊
I had 3 when I played 5.5-6.0....I felt that was enough. Hindsight, I wish I had at least 6.
Hullo, Tommy. Do you want to tell me about your toys? Oooooh. Aaaaaah!"
He’s talking kg. So 26kg is like 56 lbs. so much for those clowns on youtube who tells us pros use a 40lbs tension 😂
Different pros use different tensions. Many of them string in the low-mid 40s. Some of them string as high as 60 or even 62.
Maybe roger was not telling you or me the truth about string tension
I know nothing about tennis and certainly didn't know the number of strings was something that changed!
I thought he meant 27 pounds at first I was so confused
i am sure he still play with the pro staff 85 with paintjob
no, its a pro staff rf97 340g 12HL 16x19
GOAT
As an Ex college... champ.. Of the 1965 Era..Those wooden Skazenger rackets... With Wing bolts on the sides to lock the Frames.. and the Strings.. And the grips as compared to the graphite rackets of this age... What a transformation... But yet just for curiosity.. I'm not sure except for Roger and Becker OR Sampras and of course greats before them... If the rackets hadn't changed and evolved to Power tennis now. '.im wondering how some legends would have evolved their game with the old rackets????
Good question! I can see a lot more slices
They would have turned to golf instead....
she should let him speak
going to my social club with 12 racquets all strings lile RF looooooooooooooooooooooool
ya see luv, one lot goes across, the other up and down. got it, good lass.
the reporter is so annoying. Give fed some room to speak freely
She forgot the main question about rockets : left or right handed are them? 😅
❤❤❤
I have the same racquets , same string patterns ,
very much like Roger .
😂😂😂
Do you have the same annual earnings like RF? 😊😊😂
So thats what u meant by highly strung 😅😅
You don't want it too loose, I use a 26lb tension. No wonder the pros smack it so hard.
It’s kg he’s talking about, so he mentions 26.5kg in the main and 25kg in the cross so that would be around 58lbs in the mains and 55lbs in the cross which is pretty tight.
@@clarenceunderwood382
That's right, and I agree it's pretty tight. I never go over 52lbs.
@@Shankar-Bhaskar I string poly at 52lbs and it feels pretty good medium for me at least.
If ur using 26 pound tension , u r a 🤡. 😂😂😂
I was surprised by how tight he strings it. I figured he’d be in the low 50lbs to high 40’s. I hear Mannarino strings around 25 lbs. but he’s an anomaly.
Now let's see Djokovic's string pattern
Daniel Radcliffe grown up version
Please lady..Do Not touch Rogers raquet..just watch😂
She keeps overlapping him and doesn't listen but talks... Oh wait she's from the media😂😂😂😂
Yes she certainly did....she ought to know better....she was a pretty good player back in the day......British Nr.1 and a real looker....
I'm not sure there is any string in my racket the way I miss balls.
so Roger is not "active" in tennis anymore but he carries 8 rackets still to "matches" ? wut? this is an old video yes?
Yes old vid
Well, good thing that there is RF everywhere, otherwise I would have zero idea who that guy is.......
Roger is the greatest… I string at 27 pounds .. for a 105 size racket… oh.. and I have won a national championship in senior tennis.. low tension means more spin and power as we get older..
He strings at 27 kgs, not pounds
@@fernandohenriquemenezesdes5715 yes 👍 27 kg is 55 pounds.. read what I said oh bright one…
@@gtrguyinaz...so about 12.5 kilos....Mannarino-esque I'd say.I string at 16.
She didn't let him speak but constantly interrupted him. Annoying.
now all copy this design, black one
Good man Roger, any chance of a few spare quid
As if she understood a word he said…
Wow. She just couldn't stop herself from making sound effects when he was answering her questions. ANNOYING!!!!!!!
Maybe if Annabel hadn't retired from tennis at the ripe old age of 21, string tension wouldn't sound like calculus to her.
Or maybe she's just trying to get all the information because most viewers at home don't know anything about this sort of stuff.
Such a weirdly pathetic, bitter comment. What has Annabel done to you? She's asking the questions to help viewer understanding. Would you prefer an esoteric chat between two ex pros? RUclips will cover that for you. Honestly...
finally !...i was wondering how his rackets were strung
I was about to lose my mind when he said 27 before realized he meant kilos 🤣🤣🤣 and not pounds
Roger is skinny
shes got literally no clue about what hes talking about.
Federer a thing of the past, jeez who cares 😅
Roger should have been a physicist specializing in string theory rather than a tennis player.
Roger explains how he won 16 GS in weak era
Wasn't that true only for novak?I'm damn sure it was,he comes from Sampras era!!!he would have had 25/more if not for some technicalities
I always have my stringer fart on my natural gut to pre-stretch them. The methane gas from fart actually loosens the natural gut strings slightly making them have great feel.
I once played against a guy who went to the bathroom during a match after he broke a string. Rather than farting, he digested a string or two the previous day.
How absurd! This is the magical sport of tennis and you are talking about shidding and sharting! Ridiculous!
