    Most people start making micro adjustments in their game to compensate for the minor changes (loss in string bed tension) in string tension. Most/some are unaware of the changes they are making.

  • @FW_Tennis_Channel

    I personally think re-stringing every 3 months are a good in between for people who play tennis regularly. Although that will apply after your personally preferences on how you like the strings to feel. Personally from the rackets I personally strung, I find especially for poly, if you string at a low tension like 45lbs after about 2-3 months of play you can tell there is a huge difference in performance if you have a fresh racket with you. The poly will feel a lot more sloppy, due to lost of tension and change in string properties as the strings stretch ever so slightly. Keeping your rackets in a cool and dry place also really helps.

  • @wenruli
    @wenruli 4 года назад +3

    Exactly! I strung both of my racquet with same strings with slightly different tension. I played 2-3 times a week and restring them every year unless break. Like you said when you find the right string and right setup you will like it from the start to the end!!

      @@2ndAveScents I feel it's good enough for me. The only issue I've had with the whole Klippermate system is the floating clamps. They put too much pressure on very soft strings, specifically technifibre x-one biphase, and caused the strings to break where the clamps are. I ended up buying some high quality floating clamps.

    I use a tension tester (Gamma STT or Tourna Stringmeter) instead of depending on "feel". Freshly strung, a racket should measure the strung weight. Then drop about 10% after the first hitting session. From there, I just measure tension after each session and pick a threshold to restring at, usually about 5# lower than after the first session. Some polys drop tension very faster once they are "used up".

  • @marekcolapro
    @marekcolapro 4 года назад +8

    I play with poly strings, and I feel like they feel better after using them for a while, because when they're fresh they drop off very quickly and after that, it doesn't seem to differ that much so you get used to that feel

      We have a rule in my shops: Under 15, no poly. It's always up to the customer, but that's what we advise. If they're high level, and the coach thinks the technique is good enough, we don't argue. If they aren't breaking strings often, there's definitely no reason for poly. Spin breaks strings, and if you aren't using a lot of spin you won't benefit from poly anyway. Stick with basic synguts or multifilaments. Multis will do almost everything better, but cost more and break faster. Let your wallet be your guide.

    Great video as always! I have a couple stringing questions:
    1) Hybrid stringing- Gut on the mains/ Poly cross, or vice versa...what's the main difference?
    2) Full bed of the same string (i.e. multifilament so you can see the wear)...what does it mean if your crosses wear faster than mains (and vice versa)?
    3) Natural Gut stringing- how is the pre-stretch feature on stringing machines (i.e. baillardo) vs old-fashioned pre-stretching by uncoiling the entire roll and stretching the entire length out in the parking lot?
    Thanks!

    • @TenniswithAlex

      About your 1st question: Let's say poly is the stiffest and gut is the softest. Then the power level increment for different stringbeds is in this order: full poly - poly main/gut cross - gut main/poly cross - full gut. That's the main difference in my experience :-)

Honestly I think it is just the nature of the frame. It is a open patterned racquet as you said and it has spin grommets enlarged for more movement and thus more string friction. Not to mention the kid hits with massive spin. The old "How many times you play in a week should be how many time you should resting your racket in a year." is nonsense. Suppose we're talking about low level doubles matches compared to high level players doing drills. The high level player doing drills will probably hit more balls in 10 minutes than the players will hit in an entire doubles match.

      Right, the rule of thumb is way off. Can you imagine - playing 3 times a week and going 4 months between strings? That would mean playing 48 (3 × 4 wks x 4 months) times on a set of string! The sweet spot on a racket is about the size of a dime by then.
      Any reasonably serious player should get new strings after no more than a month. Also - How much you play is a factor, but the string is dying whether its being hit or not. A month.

    When I played regularly 3 times a week each session about 2 hours I replaced my sting every 2 weeks /after 12 hours.
    String: Yonex Poly Tour Pro 16 gauge (Softpoly) 22,5 / 23,5 kg, headsize of the raquet 100 sqrIn. Approx. the same is appropriate for Babolat RPM Blast. Luxilon ALU Power may last 14 hours.
    If you have a consistant serve you notice that suddenly your first service starts to touch or be catched by the white net band. In addition a second serve if played as a twist starts to drop later and tends to become too long. Then strings are done. If you are in the middle of a hitting session you might not feel tension loss. But next time you play you may completly have lost your service. If you counted hours you may now know why. Use the next fresh strung raquet.
    I then was about 55 years old and a semi hard hitting recreational player and took part in tournaments in winter and summer. Think in the US it is something like a 4.5 or 5.o ranking.

We are almost not played tennis all these years but now started to love the sport and come to practice. What is your recommendation in this case? Because I don't play that much but I train 2 times in a week and some times I have matchs, so if its the same I would change after 4 months + -.
    But for me is very weird, because I strung my racquet at 52 lbs wilson stamina 17(I picked this one because I did a research and saw that is a good affordable string) and in the first training it was amazing training(same day), and in the other trainings I was regular again but I don't feel any difference(in feel, maybe because I'm a beginner). So if I just can play better when recently strung I'm not sure what to do, because I can't re-string my racquet every week. I prefer to think that I was inspired that day xD.
    Not sure if I should try to use a higher tension or look for a "better" string, something that holds the tension longer. By the way my racquet is artengo 560 tr 100'

    • @raderT90
      @raderT90 4 года назад +2

      From what I've read, there's no reason to pre-stretch polys because usually when people do that, the string ends up feeling basically dead for the remainder of its lifetime. Poly strings are only in a plastic deformation-like state for so long and once that elasticity is gone the string's characteristics are also shot. Usually, there is some time (a short amount, unfortunately) before the elasticity is gone and in that state when it's fresh, it's more powerful, comfortable, has better spin, control, etc. and people tend to prefer that. Dead poly usually feels like the opposite of those things and it's due to that elasticity almost entirely being used up. To understand the plastic deformation I'm referring to, look up the different parts of stress and strain curves on Google images.

      I think it has to do with flex. Anything that was a 2.0-3.0 was very stiff, 4.0-5.0 middle of flex and stiff, 6.0-7.0+ very flexible. They also talked about swing lengths and speed with those numbers. If a player has shorter, slower strokes use a frame on the stiffer end, longer and faster swings use something on the flexible side.

    How do you play 5 times a week and not break a string more than 5 times a year?

    1h30 and it's broken... Can't loose tension

      Strings loose tension immediately, and do so forever. One of the few useful things about the USRSA is all the data they collect. They have some charts measuring tension loss after 30 minutes. Large losses for some strings. The initial loss is actually the largest. After that, it slows down quite dramatically.
      I put it like this: The only time a string is the tension we're pulling, is at the time we are pulling it. After that, it's always getting looser.

      Stringing it harder at the start, most strings lose moste tension in the first few hours. And if you string it, leave it 3 days before playing with that one, so you're not used to a newly strung string

    So i've always only used factory strings and only recently I've started learning a lot about strings. What string would you recommend to a player who doesnt break strings.

    • @mathiaspfister9449

      Hi, it depends on what you want from your strings. feel, playability, power, control? and what do you want to spend on these strings? And probably what racket you use and where you lack something. Like if you're using a VCore and feel a lack of power you should take a thinner string and probably something power-orientated...

      @@devinotero1798 Would a Co- Poly like Solinco Hyper G be okay as a friend of mine recommended it to me. I don't really have a stringer near me so I would like a string that wouldn't break easily. I'm mostly looking fot speed and spin.

      Tiarnán Quinn i love hyper g. If you have used polys before and are a decent enough player, hyper would be great. It has good spin and some decent power for a poly
