you know, im Mexican and back in highschool i had no friends in freshman year, my first friends were all fillipinos. I hung,out with them at Nutriotion and lunch time, and alot of the times they would speak tagalog and honestly i had no idea what they were saying all i knew was that alot of words they said sounded in spanish to me. i was so amused, i actually think Most fillipinos are really friendly and i want to thank them for being nice to me..

Wow it's amazing how much Spanish influence is in the Philippines, as a latin American (not Spaniard) that's what we call all those veggies too.
Now I'm interested to see what else is similar, like what she's doing, the empanadas, my mom makes as well. Feels just like a Latin American home. Guapa! XD
I am Filipina and a friend of mine comes from Bolivia. She said that in Bolivia, Empanadas are only made with veggies and chicken breast, whereas Salteñas are made with ground beef.
Filipino Empanada is sweeter compared to its Latina counterpart, since it may also contain raisins!
Anyways, yes there are a lot of similarities between tagalog and Spanish.
I'm from the Philippines from Bohol Philippines my teacher said that Bisaya language and Spanish language have some similarities because we were colonize by the Spaniards for 333 years and i think latin Americans can understand this Bisaya language

Here in Phil, our pastel is filled with yema or leche, it's different from empanadas.

On the southern part of Philippines we have pastel in a rice topped with adobo then wrapped with banana leaves.. the taste was awesome and the aroma from banana leaves is perfect.
We have province also here in the philippines..they called it pastel instead of empanada
In the latin city of Philippines, Zamboanga they call it Pastil and on other part we call it empanada.
