We must have different electricians, my electrician approved my unit for 48amp setting on a 50amp circuit. And in turn, he stated 20% less on a 50amp is ok at 48, and in turn Model 3 dual motor gets 48 at peak and lowers if needed. My model 3 standard actually adjusts to 35amps as I wasnt sure this unit would auto adjust. and with the standard range gets 8kw, while my dual motor gets 11kw
I’ve talked to couple of them and all of them said to be very safe you should give 20% buffer to the breaker because EV charger is constantly taking power for hours unlike other home appliances.
If you really need 48amp then I think you should upgrade your breaker to 60amp.

@@dadstoyscars yeah, math says 20% of 60 is 48. But I'll stick with what I have for now.
Your setup violates code and is a fire hazard, full stop. You MUST set your charger to 40 amp. Set your car to charge at 40A as a stopgap until you can fix it properly. The charger should NEVER be set up to pull over 40A on a 50A breaker.
32A or 40A doesnt matter to me because most of time I charge it overnight. I spent alot of money to installed Nema 14-50 so no need to buy this too.
