Well, they're not actually running slicks on _dirt._ They're running them on sealed clay which might as well be tarmac. On actual dirt (mostly the domain of 1/8th scale these days) we typically run pins. Spikes on carpet makes sense. The idea is that the spikes dig into the pile of the carpet.
When I got carpet tires for my Schumacher Storm ST, I immediately noticed that they were similar to old-school loam tires, with lots of pins designed to dig into the surface. I'd say this deserves further testing, preferably on actual dirt, not sealed clay. The problem with running these on a clay track like in this video is that the clay is too hard to allow the spikes to dig in, so all they do here is reduce your contact patch. They'd probably run much better on something like an unsealed 50/50 clay/sand or clay/loam track like what the 1/8th scale guys run on.
So the idea is not completely flawed. Before our backyard track was full astro it was dirt and by dirt I mean sand and not clay. I bought a rear set of proline pyramids out of curiosity because of the spike pattern land length ... low and behold they were dialed. My buddies laughed, dude those are carpet tires. Oh yeah... hold my beer and watch this.
is the track dirt? it looks like clay, my local track runs tires with tread on them. I haven't raced in 10 years but we used tires similar to pins at the time
I ran carpet tires (dboots nanobyte) on the front of an sc10 (rear motor) with a custom front swaybar on 1/8 style tracks... the rear tires were panther boa (soft). no swaybar in rear but I ran a good amount of roll-center and anti-squat - when the track got dusty and slippery - it made the front out push the rear... so it was easier to drive - when the track was green (or wet) - it kept equal push from the rear and front... carpet tires dug in and held well on a green track - if the track was hooked (a bit of groove) (run DD or holeshots in the rear) and sometimes keep the carpet tires in front... stop the truck from being darty. (a wedge/rib-style carpet tire probably would have work better in the front but they did not have them at the time)
hey have you ever considered drag slash parts on any of your builds. I have seen that there are carbon fiber shock towers available now along with some other possible interesting parts. I don't race myself so I'm not a good judge on if any of that stuff would be useful or not but I'm curious on what you opinion is on this as you would have far more experience trackwise. edit: also have you looked into nitro 2wd drive parts I have heard that some parts are compatible. I came across another video where someone used a nitro slash frame as a cheap way to make a mid motor drag slash. from the looks of things all the hardware just mounts up.
Honestly I'd come and watch you just racing normal without trying new things. I think your personality and the other "talent" is what makes the videos fun to watch.
Since you had the idea to run carpet tires it got my gears turning what about traxxas factory tires on that surface, I don’t race and probably never will due to the closest track is 2 hours and change away just got me thinkin
I still think it's weird to run slicks on dirt and spikes on carpet. It's some Bizarro world crap.

Lol I know. I run buggies on carpet. Just think it is funny that they make the clay like that to run slicks . I
I know right. Who new you could run slicks on dirt lol
Give me back the old fluffy dirt days….x patterns and spikes

Running out of stuff to do with RC? Well, guess who has a keyboard and a crapload of ideas!
*_THIS GUY!_*
Yes still watching😊
My man wants to tease a carpet track. Where im at its the opposite. We dont have dirt😭
That was really interesting. Glad you tried it and for sharing the video. Love your channel!!
Thanks for watching!
I guess the next question would be, "will slicks work on carpet"? Touring cars use slicks.

Actually loved the vid.. I always wondered how street tires ( like the traxxas ones), foams or hell even drag slicks would do ..lol

When I was racing back in the 1990s we used foam tires on parking lot black top. Used nobbies and foams on dirt...

In actual dirt, spiky carpet tires work fine.
You took them on mild blue groove track. Find a little loam and I bet they'll bite a little better.
I think if you put Beetlejuice on the tires it may pick up the clay and be better 😊

👍 you have saved me a fail lol, i was wondering what they would be like, now i know they suck 🤣🤣👍
I use hard compound carpet tires on my hardpack silt/dust dirt track. they actually hook up better than anything else.

😂 thanks for the compliment. I appreciate it.
This was better watching then monster trucks!
You don’t HAVE to watch anything you don’t want to. You can skip an episode or two. It won’t hurt. I promise.
@@mxacresYes I HAVE TO WATCH them alll. Im starting a collection
Nah just get a carpet oval car or even dirt oval slash or a drag car there’s always room for more RC cars
He has a sprint car behind him in his room
Since you had the idea to run carpet tires it got my gears turning what about traxxas factory tires on that surface, I don’t race and probably never will due to the closest track is 2 hours and change away just got me thinkin
U know they kinda work as diff tires lol
the carpet tires is like my track with the tires that are best on it since it is loose dirt not packed and smooth
OK now do slicks on carpet.
We have a carpet track that requires foams or slicks.
Do oval that sprint car behind you is wanting to be run
Actually it's pretty funny. At least I know not.to do this lol
Dirt tires on carpet😊
I know you know proper tires are 80 -90 % of your set up
Exactly
