I thawed out wrapped up in front of our small TV in kitchen, my mom said if need be we'll go to hospital when this is over ( young Mom) but omg It was very deep, hockey players helped me oouut , couldn't find a pay phone

High society, splurging, and shopping sprees; the sly fox fast talking crooked thinking Mr. only smells money. The script is good, and the husband is better! The one liners are hilarious!...love it! 🎥💋

OMG, this is so hilarious ! I'm so picky about comedy, hard to find something that is funny and clever both, and well acted, but this little gem has it all. I don't know what they were smoking, but this script is brilliantly off beat , jokes just flow in the most unexpected way, nothing forced about it , and the cast is simply top notch. To me this is one of the few comedies that I'll watch more than once and laugh every time .

It was as funny as I thought it would be. You can tell Henry's influence in the writing of this film. I can see where the critics liked it. Too bad the public back in '48 didn't. I was surprised how small Arnold Stang's part was. He should've had a bigger role in the film. It might've done a better business. Enjoyed this very much.

A delightful movie with fabulous footage of NY in the 1940s. Even more interesting are the women's fashion. It would be considered very similar to today's fashion (which is pretty much copied from movies of this era by today's designers)

This movie takes place after WW1..so around 1920. These are not 1940 styles. The movie actually did a good job keeping close to the clothing and hairstyles of the time. Even some big budget movies of the time didn't always do a good job with that.

Dona Drake was an African American actress, who Hollywood made up a Mexican background so that she could pass. Dona Drake lead an interesting life as dancer and band leader of an all female band [FBI interviewed Dona, re: dealings with a mobster in NYC in the 1930s, who was rubbed out]. Dona married artist and costume designer William Travilla [who designed many of Marilyn Monroe's costumes, and other celebrities] in 1944, they had their only child, Nia in 1952, who became a Veterinary Doctor and died in 2002 at age 51. A book on Travilla stated that he was adamant that his daughter would never screen test to work in films. From a photo of her, at a young age, it was clear that she was bi-racial. I wonder if that is because he didn't want to expose his wife Dona Drake, as African American, as it probably would have ended her career, since during Jim Crow, black woman did not get leading roles, or have any romantic interaction with white males. Was unable to find out how Dona Drake and Travilla's daughter , Nia passed away so young at 51, as her parents both died within a year of each other in their early 70s 1989/1990 respectively. As a sidebar, Dona Drake, resembles Gene Tierney, Hollywood should never have held her back because she was not white, she has on screen presence[even in a small role as Jenny, a Native American servant, in the 1949 film "Beyond the Forest" to 40 year old Betty Davis, who is an excellent actress, though miscast in that film as Rose, who might have been believable if a younger actress was cast.

      Christena Smalls
Jim Crow was a legal reality in some southern states, otherwise inter-racial and inter-ethnic intolerance and violence existed to varying degrees elsewhere. The old Hollywood Production Code simply kowtowed to Jim Crow legal prohibitions concerning the filmed depiction of inter-racial relationships, and beyond that, in certain musical films sequences featuring African American performers would be edited out of release prints for the Southern market!

Thank you for commenting, past bios I'd read had mentioned none of this. I thought Drake was passing for Spanish in the manner of Ricardo Cortez (nee Jacob Kranze) because of the "allowable" Latin niches that existed in entertainment back then. Drake's story is similar to Acquanetta's attempts to pass in the 40's, though Drake's talent and versatility got her more opportunities. Such a horrible time.

Now I know why this is Morgan's only starring role. Amiable guy but he can't carry a movie. As a New Yorker, I loved realizing what a perennial the "NYC slickers take the rubes" has been. There are some really hilarious touches, especially the two women's wardrobe that proves once again Dolly Parton's adage that "you have to spend a lot of money to look this cheap."
