  • This video below features a 29 years old patient after a car accident, with multiple complex fractures in RT foot bones and LT Above Knee Amputation (AKA). In this exercise the patient practice prosthetic knee flexion, prosthetic leg swing, and balance and muscle activation.
Gait training for patients with a prosthetic leg has several key steps: standing between handrails; shifting body weight and standing on the prosthetic leg; walking on a level surface and gradually reducing the usage of any walking aids; and finally - practicing climbing stairs and slopes. During all stages, essential functions need to be exercise, include balance, coordination, weight bearing on the prosthesis leg, and straightening the pelvis and upper body.
The DST is adjusted to the patient needs and current abilities - handrails height and width, and stairs’ height. As the patient improvs, the PT can easily adjust the DST accordingly, to provide a tailored-made exercise for each stage of recovery.
