What a beautiful depiction of the inner battle.. i was on a road trip across canada and had a lengthy conversation internally with my higherself and my former self… I will say the addiction to self sabotage is very real.. and as much as we run toward the fire escape… we must also climb down and let go and let the former self burn to the ground without regret Thankyou for posting this Writing this Singing this Portraying this ❤️❤️❤️❤️ Love from Alberta
When I met Dan 9 years ago at a show, he was one of the kindest and most humble performers I have ever met. He recorded a message for my sister for her wedding with his well wishes and advice. His music has been propelling me forward for such a long time. I showed my sister Road Regrets and she fell in love and got her husband to fall in love too. He truly is an underrated, but also criminally humble artist. Life has had me fall behind on keeping up with artists I love, and only now, a year later, am I listening to this. But that's life right? I am just thankful I still have the ability to see him in concert again. Hopefully next time we can go from a handshake to a hug!
I always find it fun to compare the fashion choices of our personal agents of depression and self harm. Mine wears a John Bolton concert T-shirt she cut into a crop top and a pair of really dirty tan corduroy shorts that you can't tell are dirty because of the color. I'm still not sure if she wears these things ironically or not.
This is literally art. I’m so fussy with new music and new artists but this was fucking incredible and I’m not just saying that bc I adore Steven. Definitely adding to my Apple Music library
@@danmanganmusic thank you for producing, it 's like fresh air to me specially lately with all what 's going on in the world and in our personal lives.
This video hit me in a way no other has. As someone who's in the phase of learning to love themselves after years of self abuse, Thank you Dan Mangan ❤️
Fantastic song and equally fantastic video... candid, cinematic, humorous and heartfelt. Well done, all. For anybody who doesn't realize, Steve Ogg is the Canadian actor best-known for playing the character Trevor Philips in the video game Grand Theft Auto V!
Wonderful video! It’s hard to accept those thoughts and walk along beside them. Just gotta keep finding the little things that bring joy when you can. They might seem small, but they are important. And those thoughts… well, they are there, but we have to not let them consume us. ♥️
Remember seeing you on EP Daily when I was 10 (25 now) with Robots Need love too, loved your music then and love it even more now. You have grown so much as an artist and I hope keep putting out songs like this, so beautiful.
Already 10 months of this beautiful song, I can't believe it! Nor can I explain how much I love the video clip, the rhythm, the lyrics... everything is beautiful, really. I'm not just saying this because I love Steven, this really is art, even after almost a year I still love this song!
💚 I am so glad you do what you do, Dan. Your lyrics are pure art to the heart. Loving the feel of the song, to me it has this essence about it that seems to capture the dazed feeling that has shown up these past couple of years, after hit after hit after hit (after hit after hit after hit). The pain is there, beneath a disillusioned numbness.
Today I just sat in my PC and said: "Oh, I have years without listening to Dan Mangan, let's look for the robots song again". And he released this video 9hrs ago.
I have thought of doing those things to myself. We can sometimes be our own worst enemy, critic, bully. Be kind to yourself..and to others. Wonderful song, imagery and direction.
Loved and related to this video and your words so much. I hope to continue to push towards and hold onto those bright moments. (Also loved seeing Trout Lake make an appearance.... I hope no one got too concerned to see Dan Mangan being beat by a bat in the reeds!)
Been listening since I saw you at Holland park during the Olympic events. Truly been am important influence in my creativity throughout the years, thank you so much for your music
Best song I've heard in a long time. Absolutely brilliant, both musically and lyrically. Clever video concept as well. I've been a fan since "Robots" and this continues to solidify your place as one of the finest musicians/artists we have today. Thanks for this.
The physical manifestation of Trevor Phillips beating up on yourself is a major message. Also, my dad tried the hose/exhaust thing, so it hits close to home. At least you make peace with yourself at the end of the video. Don't give up, even when it hurts.
So good, Dan. Great sound, great concept, fabulous video. You're something else with talent and depth. Every time I hear Dan Mangan I go, "Wow." Amazing. Also the turn at the end is so human and touching. I hope you're speaking well to yourself!
Loved the vibe of the song and loved the video - moving and utterly, painfully relatable and touchingly redemptive. There's always another chance for another voice. And Dan, you do all that so beautifully, all the time. What a fantastic artist.
Let me just love this video and watch it on repeat without liking it. Does anyone else remember how the internet works!? Is it just me, or should you not love it if you love it?❤️
I am Japanese. It's sad that I don't understand the meaning of the lyrics of this song. The music of this song is very good. The video of this song is also very attractive.I really want to know how they sing. My English may be strange because I use a translation.
Once a young woman said to me, “Hafiz, what is the sign of someone who knows God?” I became very quiet, and looked deep into her eyes, then replied, “My dear, they have dropped the knife. Someone who knows God has dropped the cruel knife that most so often use upon their tender self and others. Hāfiz
Steven Ogg (GTA V/The Walking Dead, etc.) as the persona of self doubt and destruction, makes for a heavy representation of those emotions...
Glad someone recognized him!
Yeah but Mike took his gun off him like that
Crazy to think someone as talented as Dan also constantly beats himself up.

Dang, our inner selves can be cruel. This hit a lot of feels. I was laughing while still tearing up at the end. Great video, great song.
"Or the disconnect between what people do and what they've said." Love this song so much. Thank you
Damn, Dan. That's one hell of a feeling.
Hello friend! Imagine seeing you here, lol
The truths that we have been choking on... Beautiful line...
Had a day today where my other self won.
But I know I can comeback tomorrow.
Thanks for sharing this Dan. Means a lot.
We're all here for you Rob Brown. Isn't that what music does?! Brings us together. Just say something if you need a friend.
This video hit me in a way no other has. As someone who's in the phase of learning to love themselves after years of self abuse, Thank you Dan Mangan ❤️
This song helped me to stop hurting myself. Thank you, Dan.
And thank you, Steven.

Today I just sat in my PC and said: "Oh, I have years without listening to Dan Mangan, let's look for the robots song again". And he released this video 9hrs ago.
This is the first I've heard of you. But I love the music already. And the addition of Steven ogg was a nice welcome!
I have thought of doing those things to myself. We can sometimes be our own worst enemy, critic, bully. Be kind to yourself..and to others. Wonderful song, imagery and direction.
Pretty accurate depiction of someone with depression and negative self talk.
Dan your always giving me all the feelings. Your a legend! Cheers to quality!
Another masterpiece.....thanks Mr Mangan

Song and video are so perfect.
This is definitely some high art!
Such a great one! Your most artsy video by far. The darkness and the light, don’t expect them to play nice, right? ;)

Never expected a collab between Trevor and the musician behind Hilda! 😅
Man, the music is top notch from you as usual, but I didn't expect to get so many feels over a video. Great stuff.
I'm diggin the production on this tune. Just heard it on the CBC and I'm glad I figured out what I was hearing. 😎👍

Great song and very cool video. Was blown away with his performances on Comedy Bang! Bang! today. I need Melody in my iTunes library ASAP please
