The Point: Liu Xin rebukes Western report on Xinjiang

  • Today's topic is Xinjiang, which is still making international headlines. In recent years, Xinjiang has made great efforts in supporting employment. Developing industries and increasing employment opportunities are regarded as important measures to fight poverty. Besides, by the end of 2019, over 2,400 poverty-stricken villages in northwest China's Xinjiang Autonomous Region had their power grid upgraded. But how is the foreign media reporting the efforts of China and Xinjiang? Do they mention the work that is being done to lift people out of poverty and create a more prosperous and stable society? No, they opt for a narrative of negativity, which is not based on factual reporting but opinion-driven pieces.

Thank you for the Chinese perspective. As a Canadian..and one with an open mind..you have clearly demonstrated a sight of future for China. Civilized, prosperous, with well intent for all it's citizens. Our so called "prisons" churn out repeats. Universities/Colleges? No money..move along. I've seen a lot. I've heard a lot. We do not promote employment hardly at all. Inspiration nurtures devotion. A devoted country fears no inspiration. Everyone..disabled or able, has a contributing talent. To not allow that individual to nurture that talent for the benefit of all..simply removes a country's spirit to prosper. Love all to all.

Recall the good intentions of Mao with the Great Leap Forward (cost 80 million lives) or the Cultural Revolution which altered thousands of years of Chinese customs and habits. Destroyed most peoples lives.

@Mohamed A. Hussein .Yes, exactly. Dirt poor AND occupied by a militarized police force that shoot you just for looking the wrong way. With the poor and desperate populations of these regions being constantly used as a prop in political games to scare people into voting for even more oppression... And the government certainly wouldn't be building schools, or subsidizing free housing, or promoting easy access to jobs in the area... because then they couldn't say "Look, if they're poor, it's their own fault! They're all lazy, violent criminals... Vote for us and we'll build more prisons, keep you safe from them!"
Such is the wonderful political freedom of western capitalism!

Liu Xin is good where the facts are in favor of China, but not in this case where the evidence is clearly all stacked against China.
How would Liu Xin answer to the questions:
      1) "Can you explain the process to register to attend classes in the re-education centers?"
      2) "Are there instances where applicants had to pay bribes to get a place to study in these re-education centers?"
      Best regards,

@Friedrich Wunderlich , I tend to think that they are simply aghast that a system which in their mind should failed but China has practically up-lift hundreds of millions out of poverty. Some even argued that the amount of daily cash is still around US$2 but they forgot that most of the people are provided with housing which whatever the cost is still available to the bottom 10%. Just check this with the condition in Hong Kong! A supposedly free region when it was a British colony. Just look at the plight of the bottom 30%! I agree that the double standard is deliberated by the Western Press just to sell their papers! Otherwise they would be out of job!!

How much truth is there in her assessment vs NYT? A good lawyer would look at both sides of the argument but sadly western media never even considers China 's perspective. A lot of people don't understand, & only pick up on headlines they see on western msm, & base their opinions based off of that without looking at the whole picture. Would people rather China took the same stance as the west on terrorism, where it has brought nothing but chaos & death. I don't think so. Yet China's effort is not about bombing the people & killing them, its about leading them away from extremism & terrorism through education, gaining skills that would emable them to integrate into society & make contributions to society, its miles better than what the US, UK, have done in Iraq. We can also see the benefits this has brought to Tibet people as well, its not a perfect system by all means, but it least it shows that China cares about those people by not bombing them to kingdom come like the US prefers to do. And people cannot see the real difference between China's approach to extremism & terrorism to the western approach, & i think people need to look at the differences properly rather than looking at this through a western centric tinted lens. This is the problem with western msm & western pundits, they always like to compare their own system to other developing countries that are unknown to them, & this also comes to down to an unwillingness to understand other developing countries, both on facts, history & without any prejudice & ignorance but with an open mind, sadly not a lot of people understand this.

The Uyghur population went from 3.6 million in the 1950s all the way up to 10 million in 2010s. The Chinese government did not impose the one-child policy on the ethnic minorities such as the Uyghur population. China has expended infrastructure for Muslim minorities. In 1984, there are only 9,000 mosques, and in 2017, there are 39,000 in China alone. In 1978, the per capita GDP in Xinjiang was only 166 RMB, and in 2010s, it increased to 49,474.717 RMB in Dec 2018.

Liu Xin’s headline buster program, while aiming at the so called acclaimed western journalism, is timely and really for all concerted ones interested in an objective analysis of other culture’s social issues. I would recommend the format be exported back to countries like USA. For example, I would like to see, one day, when a western journalist can examine the dictions and expression of Chinese issues in its language and thereby gaining more deep understanding of the content. Currently, writers of American’s traditional media Liu drew from are acting like patients suffering from paranoia when it comes to “things Chinese”.

  • @mike4ty4

Think the real problem is that the west reads these various Chinese source materials through their own _cultural_ lense: when they think of a corporation, say, they think of how _they_ would run one and interpret the terminology based on _their_ use of terminology, not the Chinese's own. Like - as my most ready example because they made big headlines, phrases like "crushed bodies and shattered bones" and "organs of dictatorship" cited in various communications involving Chinese President Xi Jinping on Hong Kong and Xinjiang respectively, claiming the first was a "threat" and the second an admission of tyranny (or something - it was never said explicitly but you could tell they were playing it up for all the emotional atmosphere they pump from it). _Completely_ - and with such vast quantities of other people also _completely_ , including and especially even US politicians and even _more_ worthy of scathing criticism and rebuke the supposedly "progressive", "radical" "hot young things" and non-governmental activist leaders and more who _should_ be more suspicious of anything seeking global antagonism, war or other hostile measures, or how that foreign countries and/or peoples are portrayed (esp. after just "recently" two huge, long and devastating wars in the Middle East), simply hoovering all this stuff from the Media up without any question at all - failing to even ASK questions like "Wait ... what does this even _mean_ ?"
And I think part of that goes to not perhaps just - but related in an _indirect_ way, as one can obviously tell - a mindset of imperialism but also a mindset of presuming the _after effects_ of imperialism in a way, that is, of presuming that political discourse will be constructed and carried out according to "standard and 'internationally recognized' norms of communication" yet which upon interrogation are revealed to be one that is very much historically/culturally contingent and situated and particularly Western and _colonial_ in origin. Hence why my most seething anger is reserved _precisely for_ those "hot young progressive things" and for "activists" and others because they don't get the fundamental _hypocrisy_ that this creates for them - when they have claimed everywhere _else_ how much they claim to oppose colonialism, "racism" and "white supremacy" and yet _systematically_ fail, as a common blind spot, to cite how that is informing _global_ issues if not even carrying deeply unexamined ideas regarding culture and how it should work. In a way, it seems that the attitude taken to "culture" is that while "cultural diversity" "exists" it's fundamentally not thought of as necessarily something that gets into the "big the-man officialdom" level of society: the "official" and _formal_ structures of the state government, the way the actual codified laws are written and so forth, is treated as if it's somehow either "neutral", "official", or "universal" and thus what'd be called in critical sociological theory _of the very type those hot young activistprogressivethings like to tout on other issues_ - an "unmarked centre" - which then demands that it be pointed out, marked, analyzed, assessed and ultimately criticized and controlled to open up _novelty_ and _alternatives_ and _diversity_ . What I like is NEWness, DIFFERENCE, COMPLEXITY, RICHNESS for my species (humans).
(And geez ... I lost the original track again regarding the quotes I cited, to evidence my point: "Crushed bodies and shattered bones" is actually 粉身碎骨, literally "powdered bodies, broken bones" and is what is called a _chengyu_ [成语, wonder if hot shot young 'radical' things Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Rashida Tlaib, Ilhan Omar, Ayanna Pressley, Ro Khanna, etc. or even older ones like Elizabeth "Lizzy"/"WARren" Warren, heck if even Bernie, heck _ANYBODY_ there can tell me what that word means without Googling it] - a piece of "prefabricated language" typically written with four characters and whose actual meaning isn't necessarily what it says by taking them literally, but rather is an oblique reference to some other but well-known either historical or fictional situation and some pertinent aspect thereof. In this case, this phrase references an old battle, a failed rebellion, at the time of Han Dynasty, where the revolting army ended up slaughtered. It is not a declaration of violence to be committed but rather emphasizing the notion of a complete, and miserable, _defeat_ - and of a revolution, too, no less [hence there's very good reason Xi Jinping would have chosen this idiom.]. And as we've seen, the government never even _tried_ to _literally_ crush their bodies. Likewise "organs of dictatorship" is simply a term of art for the various agencies like the police, investigative bureaus etc. used to enforce government authority - based on the old sense of the term dictatorship from the time of Karl Marx, and _not_ meaning "bloodthirsty tyrannical government". Literally when Xi invoked this phrase he was saying something hardly much different from if a Western government official was talking about cooperating with the police and "employing the full extent of their powers" or "prosecuting to the full extent of the law". It was no more or less benign or malign than precisely that.)
I want to say it: _I really like China!_ I really do. In many ways I like China more than the US, but what I _really_ want is for the US to _become_ something just as likeable. What I'd ideally hope for is that there is a _diversification_ of "the man officialdom level" of societies around the world in general, into a flourishing of _true_ cultural diversity. Where a society is being _ruled_ at the _highest levels_ very substantially by_its native culture_ and in an effective manner, too, instead of this bullshit about "one size government fits all" the west likes to push. And I don't outright _hate_ the US or its system either. But I also don't see why that it must deny the _right of EXISTENCE_ to others in the way they do, simply for it to _EXIST_ . The coolest thing to me would be a world with both the US _and_ China sitting it both operating _differently_ according to _their_ cultures _without_ this asinine conflict.

The western mentality of superiority goes way back to the colonial empires. They still think like this Ben today, you might not be able to see it yourself, but its there. It's in the foreign policies, the statements they give over anything to do with China, Russia Iran. Certain countries seem to have a superiority complex when they start talking about other developing countries. Part of the issue is western rubbish media.
They're the ones pushing the policies to the people. The warmongers are the ones a ramping up tensions Look, the western colonial powers back then were so powerful, they had no need to learn about other cultures, unlike for the people they subjugate, enslaved & exploited for their own selfish riches, those other people's who the west subjugated had to learn new cultures & customs, so now the warmongers in the west including the western journalists,
still have the same kind of mentality as they did back in the colonial era. They haven't changed with the times, they still have this kind of racist, prejudiced, ignorant, arrogant view about other cultures, & still seem to think that they're superior morally & interlectually, when we all know that's not true.
The west always has issues just as the east has their own set of issues. The main problem here is the warmongers & the western journalists who are just an extension of the countries they represent. The people in the west however are the ones who know what's wrong with their own countries. The thing about west is the mentality of the people in charge, including the journalists. They're still living in the colonial era & haven't moved on, and we can clearly see this in how they report on other developing countries, compared to themselves, they have a kind of selective way of reporting. It's disgusting & very hypocritical to say the least. Every country has problems, it's not just China that has problems, every country has issues that need to be sorted out.
China's approach is to include everyone, & exclude no one, for the betterment of this world, the approach by US for instance is one of stupidity. They choose to make themselves new enemies, by choice alone. This is detrimental to global stability & peace, for instance hat the US has been doing these last few years now, is a disgusting example of a rouge nation gone insane with power. So to me, any US politician calling China a control freak is a great example of how low, the US has gone to massage their own egos. China doesn't see the world as having to dominate everyone like the US does all the time. China doesn't want to destabilise the entire world, they have stated so many times that stability, is key to further development of other countries, if we have instability, tensions, that's not good for business either, like in HK now, many businesses had to close down due to instability. Many people lost their jobs due to tensions there. A country cannot fully develop when there is uncertainty, instability, tensions, foreign agitated civil wars, etc.
Western foreign policy is damaging to the rest of the world especially the Middle East, & at the moment in HK, I know for a fact that US CIA has their hands all over HK. They destroyed HK society with their NGO NED who funds all these separatist groups in HK, NED I know has funded or given funds to the HK political opposition, it's not against HK current law, but with Article 23 of HK Basic Law, these funds from NED would not be allowed to be given to any political opposition party in HK, and this is why US is working so hard to prevent HKSAR government from passing Article 23 of HK's basic law, by threatening to sanction individuals who act to pass this HK law of Article 23.
The real problem in this world is USA. They're the ones who create new problems by trying to solve other problems, & they don't seem to understand their problem. Every time they try to intervene in other countries, US government don't seem to realise they're interfering in other countries & most of the time, they're not welcome. We don't have to look far to see perfect examples of western style democracy by US. Iraq (still suffering from chaos), Libya, Syria (US still illegally occupying the northern parts with the oil), Venezuela, Honduras, Haiti, Bolivia, Hong Kong, all good examples of how US politicians see democracy in othe countries, more like their version of how western democracy should be done. It's sick & disgusting when I hear Marco Rubio for one, talking rubbish over Hong Kong & how he thinks in his sick mind how China is interfering in internal policies of America, when US is blatantly interfering with HK lawmakers especially how the US has threatened sanctions on HKSAR government & other officials in HK & China just for implementing HK Basic Law of Article 23. It's okay for the US government to blatantly interfer in other countries without any criticisms, but when US is accused of doing just that, the US arrogant politicians accuse the accusers of interfering in USA's power to interfere in other regions & other countries, this is absolutely disgusting arrogance & the most disgusting hypocrisy I have ever seen, 20-30 years ago, politicians neve used to be this disgusting, but today's politicians especially those in UK & USA, they're the worst when it comes to disgusting arrogance & disgusting hypocrisy. Btw, sorry for the long rant, & happy New Year to you.

“ Advanced forms of biological warfare that can ‘target’ specific genotypes may transform biological warfare from the realm of terror to a politically useful tool.” The Project for a New American Century (PNAC), Rebuilding America’s Defenses, Chapter V: Creating Tomorrow’s Dominant Force (September 2000)
The surge in violence against East Asians in the United States is consequence of US foreign policy against China.
Who is driving US foreign policy against China and why?
The National Security State of the United States is actively carrying out permanent war in the Middle East and Eurasia. The balkanization of the Middle East into religious statelets; Eastward expansion of NATO towards Russia and the Greater Israel Project (Eretz Israel) are part of the continuous war for the control of Eurasia and it’s resources. Countering these wars for empire is China’s Belt and Road Initiative. This plan recreates the ancient Silk Road with connectivity and industrialization from Asia to the Pacific, Europe, Africa and even Latin America. It’s economic development without War!
Asian Americans are feeling the consequences of these wars, which includes the attacks against Muslims and other South Asians as a result of the 9/11 false flag attacks.
The focus of our opposition to war and the racism it engenders should be Neo Conservatives who control our National Security State and driving our policies.
They are unelected and a threat to humanity. They must be removed from power!

Note that in any country, you get people earning way below poverty line of that country, and if data from those few, relative to the whole population, are used, the data are not representative.

IMHO Of course the Brit media is also biased but they are not nearly as obsesses with their anti-China propaganda narratives as the US one. You can basically see it as a strategic move on the side of China, you don't see the US saying 'The East', right? The same way, China shouldn't say 'The West', but 'the US'. Isolating the empire makes it weak, uniting it with a lot of countries, most of which btw are against it, makes it stronger.

Hi, there is a program in Australia called “Media Watch” which scrutinises the Australian media for inaccurate reporting and other irregularities. The commercial media (which is strongly incentivised to exaggerate stories to attract audience) usually comes under criticism by Media Watch. But the public broadcaster (i.e., the Australian Broadcasting Corporation) also sometimes get criticised. (Note that Media Watch is a program broadcasted by the Australian Broadcasting Corporation). Media Watch broadcasts weekly and have been doing so for many years now. I think it often wins awards for its work.
It strikes me that CGTN could come up with something similar to Media Watch, but in relation to the international media. The admirable Liu Xin seems well qualified to host this program. But if the CGTN’s version of Media Watch is going to be credible, it needs to scrutinise Chinese media, and not just Western media.
    Just a suggestion!

    • @CamMac-kd1ou
      @CamMac-kd1ou 4 года назад

Cgtn will never scrutinise itself or anyone . It's part of the CCP propaganda machine. There is only one message. The CCP's message. No other opinion is valid.
If China wants this criticism to stop then let xingjiang be shown without the CCP's stage managed view... this will never happen btw. Until that happens then the West will never trust the CCP. What are they hiding is the question that gets asked.

    • @JianYZhong
      @JianYZhong 4 года назад

@@FruityHachi Hi, I'm not sure I understand your comment about selectivity. It's just a suggestion for CGTN if they want a "Media Watch" type program. Other broadcasters are free to adopt this if they wish, whether in China or elsewhere. I assume "Media Watch" is not unique to Australia.
I am sure it won't surprise anyone that the media (including Western media) doesn't get it right all the time, and their perspectives can be biased. The Australian Media Watch serves a public function in holding the Australian media (especially the commercial media) to account for how they report a matter.

    • @FruityHachi

"I assume "Media Watch" is not unique to Australia." you assume but you don't know
it's only logical that a country would not want to criticize its own, same as australian, western whistleblowers are punished for uncovering what the government is doing, chinese government is not unique in not wanting its citizens to criticize it
nor is western media any unique in only pushing one narrative. many western journalists spoke out that their job in corporations is to just copy and paste, not verify what they're writing

Also, if they live in the middle of nowhere, they would make very low wages, but their expenses will also be extremely low.
Then there are also case of people earning low fixed wages but they are able to receive bonuses from the stock, others because they board with the company so boarding fees need to be reduced. All they give is numbers but give no context, hardly helpful at all.
