Jealous and mad is what you got out of it? Heartbroken and filled with unbearable pain because she couldn’t have children and the man she loved , is the reality. No one kills themself out of jealously . They kill themself to get out of unbearable pain..

Ugh, this scene is so depressing..even worse than seeing Tristan married to Isabel and with kids, I don't think she could have any which made it even worse for her. She is such an incredible actress, the whole scene felt real😢😢😢
It wasn't a slap at all. She was with Samuel, then tried to get Tristan, ended up with Alfred. Being passed around the brothers isn't something to be proud of. If anyone felt a slap in the face, it was Samuel.
It was a given. Samuel is his younger brother who passed away young. Of course he was going to name his son after his late brother. This has nothing to do with her. If Alfred had a son before Tristan did, he would have named him Samuel I bet.
That was his brother, tho?? That kind of trumps someone who isn't blood. It is sad that her love went unrequited, but you can't claim some deeper meaning like that over a sibling's feelings about it. Two completely different things. Sure, she had that connection with Samuel, but that's Tristan's younger brother. It will always be deeper for him. They lived together, fought together, grew up together, etc. A bond between brothers is unshakeable. So its completely different. Sure she wanted that with him but he wanted that to honor his brother for himself.
Poor Susannah looks sad and overwhelmed at seeing Tristan married to lovely Isabel and they have a family. This was the desire of her heart to marry him and have a family. She loves Albert, but not the way she loves Tristan. She can’t get him out of her heart. She still loves him so deeply but he told her to move on and find someone else. She didn’t know how long Tristan would be gone. It had to break her heart when he told her to find someone else and then he comes back home and marries Isabel. The heartache is too much for Susannah and she ends up taking her life because there is no hope of Tristan and her ever being together, as he tells her to go home back to Albert when she goes to the jail. Sadly, Isabel is killed by a stray bullet. Tristian loses both of the women who loved him. Tristin did Susannah wrong in my opinion. There is a lot of sadness and tragedy in this movie; nevertheless, it is a great film, and the cinematography is stunning.

This accidental meeting comes across so realistic. The brothers are so delighted to see one another after so long that they don't register whats happening to the women. You can see Isobel thinking: "Oh no, look at Susannah's face, she isn't over him at all" and then taking the initiative and moving forward to cover for them all. And Susannah, paralysed and barely able to breathe through the whole scene. Julia Ormond is great, she looks as though she'd like to throw that baby as far away as possible even as she's saying: "She's beautiful." And Karina Lombard is great too - Isobel 2 knows exactly what Susannah is thinking! The men kinda get it when Susannah starts to talk about Samuel and they can see her strain and then it gets a bit awkward and Tristan has the grace to look regretful if only for a second. But the brothers' happiness at being together is starting to override the awkwardness, even before O'Banion interrupts. It makes Susannah's last look back, stumbling on her heels, even more desperate. So well directed and well acted by everyone in it - including that gorgeous child.
Like why would I feel bad for susannah she was with his younger brother and after he died used her grief to get with Tristan and wen Tristan didn’t lover her the way she loved and honestly told her to find someone else out of all the people in the world why go for the older of the other two brothers you been with then break his heart by selfishly killing urself over a man who only got with u in a moment of grief and feeling responsibly for u since he promised his brother but he can’t marry u and pretend to love u just to up hold a promise to his brother and not live his life for him I really really dislike susannah and to get with that older brother knowing u didn’t love knowing u couldn’t love him just to kill yourself over his lil brother is sick like why even bring Alfred into it I really bad for Alfred n Alfred only

Because she was tired of living a lie. When she was younger, and with Tristan, her hair was wild and untamed like life with Tristan. But when she was with Alfred she had to behave like a “lady” because her husband was a politician. So she had to flatten her hair daily, to keep it tame. To keep herself tame. Her hair is a metaphor for her life. When she cuts it, it means she is cutting herself out of her life also. I know it’s been a while, but I love this movie so much. 😂
