Yes, we do take a lot of time to complete our projects, but that is only in the eyes of people that do nothing but sit in front of their TV, there are times when I think I might take a few short cuts in a project, but then I know I would not enjoy doing that, so keep on with your projects and enjoy! Stay safe ! Chris B.
The variety is great. Its all about the project for me. I dont really care whether projects get finished or not, its just about the doing of it, rebuilding and making stuff. If I do ever finish anything, I sell it on so I can do another one, theres not enough space in my shop to keep it all. So keep up the good work, all these projects are interesting whichever one you happen to be working on at the time.
Anybody who's lived on a farm knows that you DON'T HAVE any "Free Time"..... There's ALWAYS chores to do! And working on old machinery, and cars.... Parts can be tough to find, and probably not in great shape when you DO find them. Always enjoy seeing whatever you post - Can't wait to see what's coming for Old Rusty, but love how you have been restoring the tower room, too. Just glad to be along on your journey!
Morning Steve. WOW lots for us to watch this winter when we're all locked up with Covid-19 lol 😂 Can't wait as your videos are educational and fun. Cheers Stevie 😎🇬🇧
What a nice buy. I would give my right leg for that tractor here. It would cost me about $6,000 for that tractor here in Chile. This is of course caused by the government interference with the market. I like how you take something that is not worth much and make it functional and valuable. Excellent work. As always a good video and I appreciate your work. Jim in Chile.
This is just life - I started with my project and then stumbled across health problems that put it on hold. Just s I ave started putting out videos again it happened again and I just uploaded my first video from my project after one month. This is normal we are not a TV program with loads of money. Keep doing what you do, it is a pleasure to watch. Best regards!
That David Brown tractor brings back memories. During the '80's I acquired an old David Brown tractor that is a spittin' image of yours, but it had a Wain Roy backhoe bolted onto it, with its own hydraulic system, etc. The engine you have looks identical to mine, with the funny routing of the intake air through the radiator, everything looks the same except mine had the hydraulic pump in front where your battery is. The frame, the air filter, the fuel tank, the seat, fuel filters, oil filter, injection pump, all familiar. That dash is super simple and accessible. The machine had bad weight balance, which is problematic for all backhoes anyway, but due to the 5' diameter ag tractor tires, the hoe pivot had to be moved back another foot, plus the hoe was not an arch boom, nor did it retract as much as modern ones, so it was somewhat dangerous in wanting to tilt backwards when driving forwards up hill. I had to rebuild that engine due to the way the previous owner left it, but it turned out fine. Last I checked, Case was handling the parts for old David Brown tractors and engines.
Thank you for the comments and a great write up... I can see the issue with the backhoe, especially when digging.. That external oil pump had more volume and pressure .I believe...
Your farm looks lovely. I'm looking forward to the new videos. Don't worry about jumping from project to project it keeps the channel interesting. You old tractors seem to cost alot less than the ones here in the uk. Or else you a just very good at tracking down a bargain!!
Thank you!, this was a good bargain and they are around ... it just takes time to find them. This one was parked on the farm for over a year by some collector ... untill his garage was ready. I kept on asking to sell as i was able to use it once... at the end he did sell
I liked this video because like you i have alot of projects going on..i also have a working farm with cattle and sheep..i like working on my own machines and digger, renovating the old buildings, putting up new livestock buildings and trying to keep a garden and the house ..on my own ..i also like photography and history and i do work outside the farm..its hard to keep on top of everything but there is satisfaction in doing things youself..keep up the good work..i enjoy all your videos..👍
Nothing good comes quickly. It is totally worth of waiting for any video of yours. Very informative, very useful and easy to watch. I wish you would be closer to my location - I would give you a hand on a farm! :)
That is a good array of usefull machinery and cost effective too. What I would say is that some of the machines can perform universal tasks with an attachment or modification, eg the forklift can double as a crane, with or without a boom attachment. It can also tow with the hitch. So, a limited number of machines that can perform universal tasks.
I came here for Old Rusty (how could I resist?), I stayed for everything else. Keep it up. I don't mind waiting - believe me, I'm well aware of how much time these things take!
Gone be great that rebuild. Don't need to apologize, who ever don't like this project don't see it. You do it for free, not a monetarized channel, so keep up with great work. .

I, along with most others, appreciate taking us along for the journey. Don’t worry about the content as it’s perfect, those who are impatient or may not like certain content don’t have to watch or wait as you tube has a search bar :)
This is a nice change in content till the parts arrive. I’ve done plenty of hours on a David Brown and a Massey Ferguson. The first tractor my dad got me on as a boy was a Field Marshall, with a blank type 12 gauge shotgun shell to help charge the bore at starting time. Brings back great memories 👍
Parts is the plural of a four letter word. You send for them and they come at the convenience of the seller and then it's lucky when they are the right part. Then you need some specific odd number (screw, bolt, pin,......) and you have to go the the store to get it, you usually figure this out at 4:45 and they close at 5 and they are twenty minutes down the road. twenty down, twenty back and twenty in the store and suddenly two hours are gone. What really annoys me is that whenever I figure that something should be quick and easy everything goes down hill fast. Can't find the tool I need, the parts I bought, something doesn't work and then it starts raining. Thank God for Mr. Walker and Mr. Jamerson, without whom I'd go nutz.
The front axle has shims to make it tight. Maybe the axle has been out of the tractor and they forgot to reinstall the shims. The DB has million different filters and metalmesh filters inside valve body's and fuel lines etc. I highly recommend to get owners manual for the DB
Thanks for the comments, and indeed... meanwhile I did got the manual... good stuff, and all so easy to work on. The hydraulics take a bit of reading as they are not that simple

Great work by the way I am really enjoying all of your videos no matter what you upload it's very handy to learn something new in my spear time. It's gonna be interesting for me to see working on something with more electrical parts like bmw for an example form 2002 and up where it's needed diagnostic and therefore have a lot more electrical parts than mechanical that I really couldn't understand very much and you're explaining everything how it work's just fantastic would love to see that in the future if could have time for that of course

However once they work with you , they realise quickly that they don't have the wisdom or alround knowledge on basic principles. In general they are box /part swappers until it works

It's odd how relatively rich people always say they are not rich, because there's someone who always has more money than them. It's rather like when I ran a small engineering company, no one ever came to me and said someone was earning less than them, so could I drop their wages. By the way, on many occasions my employees took home more that I did, that's before I saw sense and packed it in..
Its all relative, I have had 2 jobs , still work 12 hours a day as an electronics engineer... so work is what i do... and after 35 years that pays back...
Very nicely done videos. Good explainations. The reason I found your videos is Because I am looking for a small tractor. My first one. I bought a small farm a few years ago and now want to take care of the pasture. I set my mind on david brown and am now looking at a 990 selectamatic with front end loader. It has no power steering. Many say that it is a most have. So my question is will it be a good idea to find some power steering kit for it. Is it easy to put on for someone who doesnt have the skills and tools you have? Would your say it is necessary or worth it when only doing brush hogging and moving a few bayles a year?
Sorry for the late reply , as i was away for work. But thanks for the comments. Well mine does not have a power steering and I don't need it as it turns easy... Of course if you have a front loader on it, then it is use-full and better. Else i would not bother
Hi Steve... Love your David Brown videos very explanatory, excellent stuff! I'm down under in OZ and good info's hard to come-by. I have a DB 3 cyl deisel 880 Selectamatic 66/67. Hydraulics basically working fine except if on the slightest downhill slope the PTO will not lift. It's fine on the flat and also on the uphill but will not lift on the slightest down hill. It makes no noise, filters are both new and oil level is correct. Any suggestions as to why? Cheers David
Thank you for the comments, that is interesting ... that seems more like a valve that is not working , there are several valves that you can check . have a look on the video with the diagram and then check the valves
Great to see all your gear have you ever visited Marty T youtube site as this is a NZ site and he collects all mannor of old equipment and gets it running, he also reserected a DB 990 you may find this of interest. All the best from NZ
Thanks for the comments, 7000 ??? wow... Here you need to g to auctions of cities as they sell-out their old stuff at regular times... Only crazy folks like us buy these old machines...
My 885 appears to have a leak at the rear main seal. Do you recommend tearing down and rebuilding or just keep topping it off with oil? My gut says rebuild but i've never dug into a DB before.
A few time, but it's realy hard to find those things sheap if one does not know exactly where to look for them. Normaly people in my country are the opposite and think any pice of old rusty scrap metal is worth serious money.
Out of curiosity to you script your videos any before hand? Your cut shots are very fluid, I can't remember what I said 30 minutes ago, let alone the time it takes you to set up your next shot. Also, love the variety of your channel.
My David brown starts up fast too. Great tractor!!!

Did you know the db in Aston Martin cars stands for David brown
The electric valve control sounds like something including an Arduino, should be very interesting!
Actually it's very simple it's just a joystick that switches solenoids, it doesn't require any processing

Indeed Jusb very simple contacts, unless I wanted to go proportional

I found the carbuerttor videos a bit too technical for me, but i really like the majority of your output. Keep up the good work.
Thanks, will do! Thanks for the comments
@@D3Sshooter Thank you Steve... Specifically which video are you referring to?
great channel
Thanks for the comments
Great to see all your gear have you ever visited Marty T youtube site as this is a NZ site and he collects all mannor
of old equipment and gets it running, he also reserected a DB 990 you may find this of interest.
All the best from NZ
Thanks for the comments, I will check it out txs
I think that the Case 580f has a David brown engine
indeed
There's something wrong with Scandinavian pricing... that 700euros CASE would cost 7000euros in here
Thanks for the comments, 7000 ??? wow... Here you need to g to auctions of cities as they sell-out their old stuff at regular times... Only crazy folks like us buy these old machines...
Wow! , 700€ for a almost working backhoe!!!. That thing would easily go for 10k or more here in Panama
Thanks for the comments, come over and you get it for 1000
My 885 appears to have a leak at the rear main seal. Do you recommend tearing down and rebuilding or just keep topping it off with oil? My gut says rebuild but i've never dug into a DB before.
Hi, depending on the leak... I sometimes do top up or fix it when it get to bad...
great video
Thanks for the visit
Great Video, what country you in.
Thanks for the comments, Belgium
Blimey stuff if cheap in Europe!
A few time, but it's realy hard to find those things sheap if one does not know exactly where to look for them.
Normaly people in my country are the opposite and think any pice of old rusty scrap metal is worth serious money.
Thanks for the comments, only if you know where to look for
If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
Thanks for the comments, indeed
Yes, don't apologise. What's wrong with people? They need to get a tv or a yo-yo.
Thanks for the comments
Out of curiosity to you script your videos any before hand? Your cut shots are very fluid, I can't remember what I said 30 minutes ago, let alone the time it takes you to set up your next shot.
Also, love the variety of your channel.
Thanks for the comments, I don't script... It just comes natural... and sometimes I repeat myself in certain takes... but then in FCP I correct it
Veel dingen terzelfdertijd doen... klinkt zó herkenbaar...
Schitterende collectie van machines/gereedschappen...
Bedankt voor het commentaar, veel dingen houden het interessant . Variatie is belangrijk.
@@D3Sshooter Absoluut.
