@@anothertravelflog I used to be an outdoor guy, 20kg/ 20 years ago What your trek vlog (?) Has done for me is truly appreciated. Including proceeding AAWT ventures, I especially like sound of bush. Sometimes I hear bird song up here and think of AAWT because of your videos. You have helped me re-evaluate why I go to work Thank you Ben. .
Had to chuckle when you said it's like the Scottish highlands when you hit the fog, the day before you had a wonderful inversion almost as good as the Scottish highlands, do you watch Murray on RUclips "Scotland's mountains? Love your treks or walks and this is second time round watching this walk. Just beautiful scenery. Many thanks for these journeys.
No I haven't seen it, I've been to Scotland, pre walking phase, be good to do a walking trip there, one day... The video quality on that first trip is not the best, was a cheap phone , but glad you enjoyed
Nice video -I've been planning to do this track for years and now hoping to do the AAWT in 2024. Nice to see places I haven't been so thanks for the video,
Thanks Richard . Yeah I thought about doing one, one of the afternoons near the end of the trip but not got around to it. Might do one , I still haven't unpacked everything, haven't been overly active since finishing...
Thanks for sharing this; a mate and I are planning our thru-hike in late October and itis really useful to see current conditions. You are travelling fast; looks like you are beating Chapman's "fast" times. Loved that you had beers along the way. How many food drops have you put out fo the full trail?
Chapman's times were definitely challenging early, I was pushing. Found the further I go the more generous they are. What he lists as 5 hours is now taking me 3-3.5. food drops, I did stronarchs, Rumpff, Hotham, Beloka( near Johnnie's top) , and Thredbo
It's not bomb proof, but it's stood up so far. Got buffeted with a wind change one night but it held on just. Love how easy it is to put up, also great in wet weather as you can detach the inner and keep that dry. No tears, leaks. Definitely put up the guy lines in the wind otherwise you'll get blown to bits as I learnt on earlier trips..
Yeah I'm considering my 2P for AAWT later this year. Have used in all weather so far, except really strong winds. Thanks for the heads up. Will be watching for your updates. Travel well!
awesome documentation ben!! im looking to do it at the start of november, im still deciding weather to start in walhalla and walk up, or start in the ACT and walk down. what would you suggest? also what gps did you have? was the track preloaded into it or did you put a downloaded track guide in? also did you wear gators? Cheers! Darcy
Thanks Darcy. Depends where you live ? There's pro's and cons both ways . If you walking through the main range in NSW at the start snow may be an issue in November still, but I'm no expert on that . Walhalla to Hotham is the hardest section. GPS, just two phones, had guthooks on one, and just used the GPX file downloaded from trail hiking com.au on maps.me on both phones. I used maps.me mostly. Nah I didn't use gators. 6 months on I've still got plenty of scratch marks all over my shins! Good luck
I'd walk south to North, southern Vic section is not great walking tbh. Get it done with. I'd recommend avenza maps on your phone, I've never used a dedicated gps unit and spend months in the backcountry high country summer and winter. Definitely a yes on the gaiters
Awesome video! I noticed you camped on top of Mount McDonald West Peak but neither Far Out (was Guthooks) or Chapman's books have it listed as a camp spot. Do you reckon you could fit multiple tents up there or is it just a small spot?
Thanks Yannick. Yeah not an ideal spot , apart from the views! Uneven and scrubby ground at best, maybe up higher behind me could of been better, but I was cooked at that point, and the view was the sealer to stopping right there. Wouldn't want to be up there in wind either
Yeah, dropped a few along it the weekend before I left. I sent one to accommodation in Thredbo and carried 7 days until the end. Before that I had them 4-5 days apart
Well done and thanks for documenting it (as I'm hoping to do it this year its great to see what condition the trail is for navigating).
Mate can't get enough of this Trilogy!! Thumbs up. Well done. I hope you are proud of this effort. You should be.
Thanks mate , need to get out there again . Maybe next year

Thanks ranga
Loving it, thanks ben! I see you posted another version of the walk in ‘22…will b interesting to see how different it looks in different weather…
Thanks Ben. Yep , trying to work my way around this weather has been an issue so far...

Great video Ben , good to see the journey in perspective via camera.

Thanks Trevor. It's a great adventure, you'll love it
Nicely put together 3 parts Ben - really enjoyed it!
Thanks David
Thank you
Great video. Brought back a lot of memories
Thanks Gerry. Bit disappointed in the upload quality, I'll switch back to my old phone for the rest of the trip
Awesome, thanks for the memories :)
Great video series Ben. You should do a gear list, especially as I'm thinking about doing it this year and I also have an X-Mid and Exos 58...😉.
Thanks Richard . Yeah I thought about doing one, one of the afternoons near the end of the trip but not got around to it. Might do one , I still haven't unpacked everything, haven't been overly active since finishing...
@@anothertravelflogCheers Ben! Did you find the Osprey Exos held up well to the scrub bashing and did you have the 48 or the 58?...🤔
well done mate look forward to part 2
Thanks Dave, how's the fishing going ?

Lack of cold beer is really my issue on such long walks
AN IMPRESSIVE EFFORT!
Great video Ben. Taking on the track in October. How are you liking your X-mid?

did you have to drive the track and drop off the food yourself before starting the trail? how far apart was each food drop?
Yeah, dropped a few along it the weekend before I left. I sent one to accommodation in Thredbo and carried 7 days until the end. Before that I had them 4-5 days apart
who is old mate you refer to? the one we will not speak of?
button man?
Yeah, haha, the case hadn't been solved back in 2021 , button man was all the rage...
I wonder if he is still around
Video Quality is still ok, what were you using?
Just an oppo a91. Advertises image stabilisation as one of it features, shakiest video of all time .
