Born in California and raised my children here. This is likely the last nail in the coffin. I made a "good" income and we barely survive. Over the winter my PG&E bill (gas and electric) was around $600 a month. After speaking to the utility company to ask what was wrong I was told "this is average". We're in a small 3 bedroom home and try our best to conserve. This is so out of control. I was already on the precipice of leaving, and if this goes through it'll make my decision super easy. #thanksnewsom, you've successfully driven out another hard working family.

As someone born and raised here +30yrs. can't believe I'm also looking into leaving with my family and start a new somewhere else or somewhere better, I never voted for any of these proposals, or politicians and yet I'm getting screwed, everyone is. I gave it sometime but it's like I've feared and many who no longer live here have said, "California is beyond saving, it is only going to get worse." I've come to realize there's an agenda and the people in government are really only there for their own self-interest and not the people, yet they come off like genuine politicians by giving out handouts, welfare, and "free money" to the "poor". It will ultimately lead to and has led to the states demise, and people and politicians (not those doing this deliberately) refuse to accept it, It's insanity. This state is one of the blueprints for the future and it is not a bright future we will see.

I've said this for years that no matter what you do to better insulate your home and reduce your energy consumption, they keep figuring out a way to raise rates to get the money out of you anyway. I do every time they come out and start changing our meters. Seems like anytime you do some home improvements related to saving energy and reducing the cost, they come runnin claiming it's time to change your meter. And when they do, the monthly bill doesn't reduce much at all. A few years ago I had a complete heating and cooling system replacement and upgrade that I received an energy rebate on. But just a couple of weeks after installation here they came wanting to change the meter. And this had happened after other home improvement projects I made in the past (new energy efficient windows etc.) so I was already expecting it. Once again I asked the service technician what was wrong with the meter he replaced and the answer always is "I'm just doing what they send me out here to do", and if you call and ask they say they're upgrading their equipment. But yet the meter looks exactly the same. I asked if the replacement meter is recalibrated and no one would answer with a simple yes or no.
You bet I will keep squawking after all what have I got to loose when I believe they're robbing me of whatever I should be gaining 👍

They've been doing something similar for years by increasing the cost per unit of power as you use more, but it encourages everyone and every business to conserve power. The way doesn't base your bill on lowering your power use, so why bother. And California will be mandating electric appliances in homes after 2030 (no more natural gas) so that'll shoot the price up further (and folks like me will have to pay for new electric lines to replace the natural gas to power those new electric appliances).

Sounds like a violation of the Robinson - Patman Act of 1936. It prohibits suppliers from supplying goods to “preferred customers” at a reduced rate. BUT, the left controls the courts in California so I doubt it what ever be challenged.
