I love this musical. It was the first Broadway play that I ever saw and my inspiration to join theatre at school. Definitely one of my favorites. At the time that I saw this, I had just finished reading the book for school. Once I saw it, I became very obsessed, and I still am! So good!
My favorite actors from Newsies were here and I had to pause every moment to see each face. I finally found them both after many minutes. I think I might sleep now.
@@Siegfried1917 i don't know why either like sprig awakenig is about your sexual awakenig and how taboo only makes things worse Matilda is.... Matilda. Has tons and tons of deep messages, but none of which should be compared to spring awakening
Daniel The Wolf Yeah, I love this cast for its diversity with the children ensemble. Although, the I think the West End has more diversity with its Matildas.
Excellente comédie musicale vue en Août 2015. Excellents artistes enfants... Un rythme endiablé, une comédie drôle et vraiment plaisante. J'ai passé un très bon moment... A voir absolument si vous passez à Broadway. Richard
lol trolling? The music in this show is amazingly clever and uses masterful word-play. It also makes many refrences to Dahl's works and the book itself. There is a reason the show is so well-received. Your opinion is of less worth than the man on the corner wearing Doomsday signs and a tinfoil hat. No one care if you see it when it's already a success.
And you obviously havent actually seen the show, it's *NOTHING* like Spring Awakening. The only similarity is the purposeful nod to Spring Awakening during Revolting Children.
Oona Laurence, Bailey Ryon, Sophia Gennusa And Milly Shapiro Matilda Bertie Carvel Miss Trunchbull Lauren Ward Miss Honey Revolting Children Matilda The Musical Original Broadway Cast Shubert Theatre New York City
They both play the same character. There are two or three actors for each child role so that none of the actors get worn out performing every day, and there is always a stand by for every character. They have three 'teams' so the cast rotates meaning there are no under study's for the kids roles.
Halle Jenns The "Teams" are only for the West End cast. On Broadway they have "Swings" which is a performer who learns multiple roles in the show and can step in for any of the roles when needed, but only one child on broadway hold the "title role", there are no teams, only one child per role and a swing to fill in for them when needed. Erica Simone Barnette was a swing for both Lavender and Amanda Thrip, so she could come in the show for either character, but wasn't the primary actress for either role. If you pause the video, at 1:36, you can see Erica filling in for Beatrice as Amanda, and then in the next second, 1:37, you can see her filling in for Frennie as Lavender in Miracle. Also in "Bruce" when she is not Amanda, you can see her as Lavender on the opposite side of the screen.
Matilda has plenty of songs, but they're generally not as lively as the ones depicted in the trailer (Bruce and Revolting Children). Her songs such as Naughty and Quiet are amazing, but they don't fit with the upbeat, exciting theme of the trailer, so I expect that's why they're not included.
I don't see how the school uniforms are relevant. It's not just private schools that have uniforms in England. It's actually very rare to find a school in England without a uniform therefore to stage this musical without the kids in uniforms would be silly. I can see how people get that thought from the Revolting Children performance, but to compare it to Spring Awakening is definitely wrong based on remote similarities in one performance. The rest of the show is very different.
DON'T TELL LIES! I PREDICT THAT NPH WILL ONCE MORE HOST THE TONY AWARDS NEXT YEAR BECAUSE HE IS LEGEN-NO 'WAIT FOR IT' -DARY! (Though, now that I said that, Hugh Jackman will probably be the host...)
Once was an amazing musical, its not they're fault if you cant enjoy beautifully written music and an amazing story line. No hate to newsies though, they were spectacular.
Matilda The Musical better win a Tony for Best Musical. Even though those tony voting anti-disney jerks should of vote Newsies for Best Musical instead that snorefest Once.
just to play devils advocate, there are a lot of superficial similarities in this video. kids in private school uniforms breaking rank to sing rock songs. He is wrong about the musical, but you can see how he thought that from the video
No need to get defensive, you're right I haven't seen Matilda. Excuse me for not being affording a plane ticket to NYC and a ticket to a current Broadway show. However, I've read the book and seen the movie and there are more similarities in the stories than I think you're acknowledging. Both focus on a student not being challenged enough in school, surrounded by adults who don't understand/pay attention, both try to convert others to their beliefs. So calm down, it isn't "*NOTHING*" like SA.
I love how in the Bruce clip, Amanda changes from Beatrice Tulchin to Erica Simone Barnett several times!
TBR4EVA same
Wait on the actors skin color the wig color changes like if I have light skin color it will still be blond?
No it depends on the hair color of the actor
@@GamerBoi2000 oh so i would have a black wig of i was amanda idk?
Basically so it doesn’t look like she had to dye her hair her skin color

Aidan Hawkins Bruce is pretty good!
This stage play is amazing!!!!!
Reminds me of the scenes with the schoolkids in Pink Floyd's 'The Wall'... Which makes it that much more incredibly awesome. Can't wait to see this.
Wait, is Trunchbull played by a man or a woman, because the voice is female but the face definitely looks male.
Trunchbull is played by a man :3
Is a men
Bertie Cavel.
A man and the voice is feminine because he is doing something that people normally tend to do in the theatre called acting
A man
Don't ever let this show go away pleeeeeaaassseee!!!!!!
This show is far deeper, richer, and truly more profound than "Spring Awakening."
why would you compare this to spring awakening

This Show Should've Won The Tony For Best Musical
Agreed!! What won that year instead of Matilda??
Mordecai Kinky Boots won(if you hadn’t already googled it)
I don't think you have ever seen "Once" if you describe it as a "snorefest"
1:52 what the fuck is going on
Razor Raph Miss Trunchbull is running away from the kids as she believes the ghost of Magnus (Miss Honeys dad) is going to kill her
awww she does! so cute :D
how the hell did this not win i will never know
You are right. i guess it was a knee jerk reaction to "a baby Spring Awakening." But I see your point.
Excuse me. "Spring Awakening" is just a deep, rich and truly profound as "Matilda". Both are amazing and unique in their own right.
l love matilda is cool
Same
I wanna see this!!! But I will never manage to go to Broadway...
This is west end, british version of broadway :)

I wish that there was a proshot of the whole show but there's not 😢
At least the movie of the musical's coming out this December so yay!!!

I think Erica is Beatrice's understudy just in case someone get sick or can't perform. I do a lot of theater stuff drama kids know this stuff.

Yeah, they probably do it in other shows as well, but just not on broadway, that's all.
I am doing I play Matilda for my country at Newcastle studio
So, does the Matilda character not have a show stopping number they could feature here?
Matilda has plenty of songs, but they're generally not as lively as the ones depicted in the trailer (Bruce and Revolting Children). Her songs such as Naughty and Quiet are amazing, but they don't fit with the upbeat, exciting theme of the trailer, so I expect that's why they're not included.
