Automatonic electronic harmonics by steam powered giraffe please, I think this is one of the most iconic songs they do

Im a newer listener and I think Lyin Awake is possibly one of their best songs. Though the best period of the band in my opinion was with their previous lineup with Samhears who was their human drummer that was turned into a robot named Hatchworth. He could sing in a high pitch and had a bright orange twirly mustache. So you missed out on that.

Aw, I have totally seen photos of the cat with the mustache! I HAVE missed out. :( Luckily, I have all of you folks showing me this stuff! As long as the interweb is around I suppose it will still be there! :)

The three I'd love to see you react to are I'll rust with you, Malfunction, and Transform.

The bass voice in the background is The Spine, played by David Bennett. He and his twin are always in the band, the group always states that it is their band. His twin, Isabella ‘Bunny’ Bennett, plays Rabbit. Rabbit is also the lead singer of Honeybee, but she is now a she instead of a he. Which is what the song transform is all about. The third of the groups has changed a few times, there was a fourth, Upgrade played by Erin Burke, but she left early on. The third in honeybee was The Jon played by Jon Sprague. He has some good songs that he leads such as Ju Ju Magic. When he left, Sam Luke, who was a drummer for the live shows, stepped in as Hatchworth. His more famous songs are Please Explain, Fancy Shoes, and Hatch fever. When Sam wanted to leave the band, Bryan Barbarin stepped up as Zer0. His first song was Lying Awake. It was so during the show he got to get use to being a robot. He does not play an instrument during this song. There is a recorded performance from the 10 years anniversary that shows off this.
As for the influence, who ever is the lead is generally the writer of the song. They will not play a The Jon song with the current line up because it is a The Jon song. Bryan said Zer0 was supposed to be a robot who has a show back in the 1970s called Zer0s House. As for what that was or is, the lore is a tad confusing. Bryan did say he wanted a bit more of and old soul/jazz/Motown feel to Zer0s music.
Bryan also has a band of his on that he does, called The Routine.
By the way, your reactions are fun. It is always fun to see more people get into SPG. Any of their music is worth a reaction.

As an spg lore nerd 1896 was when the robots were built. They play from any genre from then to now. I hope you continue to enjoy them.

As a huge steam powered giraffe fan I'll give a little rundown of the robot characters- the original members were Rabbit , The Spine and The Jon ( and sometimes a character named Upgrade)(The people who play Rabbit and Spine are twins in real life!)( The spine is the one with the really low parts), after the first two albums The person behind the Jon left to pursue his own projects and they ended up asking their drummer to become a robot character, he accepted and was called "Hatchworth". After a few albums Hatchworth too moved on to pursue his own goals and that's how Zero, the newest robot character, came to be in the band- he's the one singing this- Ever since I found this band I've really loved their music- Definitely worth looking into more of their music IMO

So "Zero" or the man who plays the character rather, suffered from rampant insomnia and struggled to find value in life and the lines began to blur in what was real and what mattered "In his words" and contemplated giving up on life entirely. This song is about one night in particular when he was struggling particularly hard and his thought process.

The girl you see sometimes in the videos that you mentioned is probably Isabella Bennett, AKA Rabbit, she's a trans woman, and she is the main singer from Honeybee, that was before her transition. Her twin David is called The Spine, he's the silver one, and has a crazy huge range, he's the one with the really deep voice you talked about. Plenty people have probably already recommended Automatonic Electronic Harmonics, and I second that, but also the videos for The Stars and Captain Albert Alexander are very good.

The character and Actress/singer that plays Rabbit transitioned to female in 2013.

The base voice is usually David Michael Bennett aka The Spine, but on their song Rex Marksley the base is sung by Isabella Bunny Bennett aka Rabbit

I already commented but if you wanted the most desired song (for me) to react to it would be Suspender Man. That is my favorite song of all time and I still break out in a hard case of the jives every time I hear it to this day. It's scary addictive. Please give it a listen!

Zero has another band called The Routine that he sings lead vocals in as well. Its a shame that since corona SPG haven't been able to make music videos for their new songs like they usually would. They do have some recently uploaded videos but those are actually re-edits they decided to upload before releasing their next album. They decided to do this after dropping a couple background members of their crew.

SPG is such a talented powerhouse that they don't really fit a single style. Try I'll rust with you for Isabella in lead and something of a 50s jive feel.
Isabella, Rabbit, isn't "new" but rather Isabella having transitioned from male to female: Bunny is an amazing artist, as well as a musician. Transform is a powerful song addressing the escaping of societal prejudices and how we should accept people for who they truly are.

This ranks among my top 10 SPG songs. It's kind of unique since it's one of the first songs by the newer bandmember Zero, and fans were familiar with it since they performed it at live shows long before this video actually came out. So Lying Awake had a lot of build-up to it and it honestly paid off.

hey, longtime SPG fan here! i love seeing reactions to their stuff, just to see what people who aren’t quite as nerdy as me think of them!
lyin’ awake is definitely one of my top songs by them.
one that i think you might find interesting is Hot On The Trail, if you haven’t seen it yet! David kills it in that one. i won’t answer questions on members because others already have, but for lore: Rabbit and The Spine (as well as Hatchworth and The Jon) were built in 1896! They were initially to be used to seranade a woman the creator loved, but were soon used as war machines... long story haha! they have lore info on their website, but they’ve an old song (one of their first!) called Brass Goggles that talks a little bit about it! their video is a live performance one :)
glad you’re digging them! they’re a great group of beautifully talented people.
David spoke a little bit on future music videos here and there: David is actually immunocompromised, so they’re being very careful and not able to make videos as easily as they can do music (they record everything from their living rooms). they’re still releasing content though! they have a podcast where they hang out and chat as well

OMG I was so excited to see this video pop up and you did a tiny Honeybee cover at the beginning?! *happy SPG fan noises*
If you're interested please do Hot on the Trail or Suspender Man next! Thank you!!!
Esqueeeeeeee I can't wait to see more reactions!

I really like the new member who's bot character is named zero. So far all of his songs have been great. I like most of their new stuff more than I like the John's songs. I'm so glad david and bunny have been a constant in the band cause they are my favorites their voices are so unique :)
