  • In today's video, we will explore the steps for diagnosing issues with the PTO clutch not engaging. The electric PTO is an electromagnetic system. When power is supplied, the magnets engage, causing the pulley to turn the belt connected to the mower deck.
One quick check involves testing the wires from the clutch. Using a battery and two wires, supply 12 volts to both sides. You should hear the magnets engage and disengage.
If the clutch works during this test, trace back through the safety switches to identify any issues. Also, inspect the wire whip to ensure no bare wires are touching the frame, which could cause a short circuit.

I prefer a tractor without a electric PTO. Manual PTO are way cheaper to fix.

Yes I agree Jason. If there is an issue...it's the belt on a manual. My last three mowers have all had the electric PTO and the only issue I ran into was two summers ago where the mower would quit after about 10 minutes of mowing and the battery well drained. In that case it was a simple 20 amp inline fuse under the seat that was the culprit
