What I particularly like about contemporary song writers like him, the Gettys, Sovereign Grace Music and CityAlight to name a few IS their emphasis on God and not on us. Lyrics which describe God’s holiness, justice and care for his beloved children.
I learned about this beautiful music from a book that I got somewhere and found it in?-- I just fell in love with it, both for the beautiful melody and the stirring words.
There is also the Scripture that says "Your eyes are too pure to look on sin." Habakkuk 1:13. Like Townend I was aware that I'd have been a mocker like everyone else! To make a wretch His treasure is me, it's us that God has made His treasure.
LUKE - I don't know if you read these comments, but if so, from this stranger here is the Atlanta area of the United States, thank you. Thank you for your ministry. Your videos of these hymns have been woven in as part of my daily personal time with my God in his Word and worship. Thank you.
Thanks Luke, keep up the great work! I like this hymn a lot, both the words and the melody. The old hymn style appeals appeals more to me than the contemporary style. By the way, it is nice to learn about new hymns every friday. Also the background stories are valueble additions. A suggestion for the following episodes: Lord I hear of showers of blessing / even me. I have always liked this hymn and the story behind it.
2:01 oh I so agree! Today's songs are so focused on us instead of God Thank you, I never knew there was a different way to interpret Yeshua's quoting Psalm 22
Not too long ago my dear friend introduced me to this very beautiful song of God's love for us. When we would be visiting people in the nursing homes or just having worship together we would sing this beautiful song. Definitely God inspired! Thank you for sharing
I started watching this before leaving for work and started it over for the drive to work. I had assumed this was an older hymn - the first time I heard it was on a Selah Hymns 2 cd - my newer vehicle doesn't have cd player so can't play the cd but I bought that cd for the hymn 'wonderful, merciful Savior' and after putting that one on repeat for a long time I went ahead and listened to the entire cd. the first two were favorites for the drive to work so I'd play those then jump to Wonderful, merciful Savior' and occasionally I'd play the entire cd but most trips weren't long enough LOL and I'd start over then skip again. I agree most songs nowadays are way too 'me' focused - even this one is about us but God is given the credit for everything which is more than a lot have done.
When listening to your line by line, I had a different understanding of the lines "That He should give His only Son to make a wretch His treasure." God gave His Son so that I, a wretch, could be made God's treasure.

Amen to that!
Beautiful worship!

I have done the same. I start my personal time with one of his hymn histories and it sets my mind on Him.
Thank you for this song Luke, It is one of my most favourite modern hymns!! One can't sing it without being overwhelmed by the lyrics!!
It was the first hymn I heard after being saved. I cried many tears.
Love that hymn! ❤️❤️

This is so beautiful. The words, the melody they go so well together. I love this hymn. Love your playing as well. ❤
One of my favourites, Was nice to Gavin back.

Makes me think of the crucifixion, the cost, the price He paid, all the more for our inheritance in heaven. Where it all changed for us. ✝️
We often sing Behold The Lamb (Communion Song) by Townend at our church after our worship in The Lord’s Table.
How Deep the Fathers l love for us…
Well done! 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻✝️
Beautiful! Thank you for sharing your music with us and all of the background stories.

Ah. Yes indeed. That changes the way I see that line. Powerful! Thanks!
Not my favourite Stuart Townend song and I do have trouble with the theology of it. I much prefer "Beautiful Saviour" and "In Christ Alone".
It is my favorite of his. It speaks of my great unworthiness of God’s love and how amazing that He showed it in spite of our unworthiness.
