I didnt understand it very well when i first saw this video about 7 months ago after discovering your channel. This evening i was out with some friends and when they went on to party the night away i just came home (off alcohol since aug. 2014) to do something useful with my time, and it felt fucking great just walking away(this was never an option in the past).
Now after 7 months of daily personal development i understand this video much better and its an important one!Path to freedom really is to discipline yourself and do your best to get rid of all the stupid little shitty habits you have.Better yet, replace them with good ones.

It's great that you're being so blunt and *brutally honest about this Leo. People need a straightforward answer instead of beating around their own bush. Much respect and I believe there's a lot we will accomplish when we help ourselves and help others to surrender to the truth.

Thank you for this. I fell off my routine because it is Christmas and I used the holidays as an excuse to be lazy. I noticed I wasn´t as happy as during the time I followed my routine but I just wanted to not do much now to have strenght to follow my routine when I go back in school. But now I see, that I had a warped view of the reality. The routine, even thought it may be harsh isn´t something to get rest from. It is not a chore. It is freeing because in my routine I have thing I really wanna be doing or things I believe will make be better. Thank you

Everything Leo explains in this video I have felt intuitively throughout my whole life...I've always known that desires control people in an ugly, physical way, restricting them from what one would call a mental and spiritual development and, of course, freedom. People seek that old "Living for the moment" strategy and end up worse as individuals and spiritual beings than before they started it. Just cutting off weed, unhealthy food and other bad substances bursts your bubble and makes you a little bit more aware of what the world really is. And from there you must give your SOUL more food. That's how I feel it.

SUMMARY - Actulized - Self Discipline vs Freedom - How To Create More Freedom In Your Life
You can develop freedom through self discipline and personal development#
doing personal development you have to work hard and do strict things.
you dont get adventure, freedom, excitement because
the easy thing is the hard thing and the hard thing is the easy thing
people are looking for short cut, fun, excitement, profit, value, they dont want to work for it
the easiest approach is to directly go for the check pot but this turns hard, you wont be satisfied, you are controlled by your desires
then you cant have a happy life
you have to be strategic to have fullfillment, to have piece of mind
    7:30 quote lao zu
discipline is your only vehicle to achieve true freedom.
if its too hard for you to practice discipline becoming lazy problems will rise.
you are afraid of practicing discipline and not practicing discipline because of the effects
you are running from that pains most like a puppet
this prevents you from being a creator.
cultivate easy self discipline because the more disciplined you are the more you will feel free.
As you create the stuff you want you build capital in yourself, you invest in yourself,
this makes you feel awesome after years
did you invest enough in your business to be free to decide if you want to work or not?
are you free to leave your current realtionship and find a person you want? have you invested the work, discipline, emotional labor to be able to choose a partner you want?
you dont have options if you have not worked on yourself. creating options for yourself means true freedom
!if you dont exercise discipline you are a slave to yourself, your emotions, moods, desires, neurotic thoughts, horrible habits, external circumstances
the solution is to work on yourself. this might seem hard for the moment but turns out to be easy.
Freedom is discipline which creates options and therefore freedom
quote. the gift of self discipline has the power to take you beyond the reasoning of temporary emotions, to freedom.
remember how you felt if you practiced discipline.
    discipline results in freedom
think about this, what this means the way you live your life
    Thanks Leo

It's also this, for example, you know that getting out and taking a walk will make you feel amazing but you are a slave to your own body and instead sit on the couch watching TV for a quick feeling of "freedom" and you're thinking this is freedom by being lazy but it's not. You should be taking the first step towards true freedom and the first step will be the hardest step you will take but the real freedom will make you feel ALIVE and that's what matters, not staying in one place just because you feel comfortable 'cause feeling comfortable can make your freedom be slipped away from you before you know it.

I was reminded of how newborns have to be tucked very tightly in these blankets in order to feel comforted. Disciplines are like that; we need them to make us feel comfortable in our lives. When we are loose and "free", we have no comfort. Babies, if not tucked like that, would be terribly confused and alarmed. Thank you Leo; you are a "go to" teacher for a real kick. I admire, respect and appreciate you very much.

I say freedom is a cause worth living for. Whether it be a physical or mental battle, it is such a fundamental human need. Freedom of speech, freedom to dream, freedom to travel and experience life, freedom to love and be loved. I've felt what I would describe as "True Freedom" twice in my life. Both times I was alone in my car, traveling, looking at the world with no thoughts of where I needed to be, what I needed to do or where I was even going! Even thinking of those moments sparks the feelings again and I go back there in my mind whenever I feel mentally trapped.

“The gift of self-discipline is that it has the power to take you beyond the reasoning of temporary emotion to freedom. Think of how empowered you’ve felt on occasions you haven’t given in to the ‘I don’t feel like it’ syndrome and you honored your commitments to yourself. What does not feeling like it have to do with anything? The combination of love for something with the willingness to do it, discipline, results in freedom.” - Michael Beckwith

Even those of us who understand it conceptually require constant practice and reinforcement. Knowing what to do and not doing it will make you hate yourself, trust me on this.

Freedom for me has always been to travel the world and be my own boss and earn money while I do what I LOVE.
Today I am doing all of this and feel FREE.
My path started before I quit corporate and shifting my mindset was the only way I could QUIT my corporate.
Shifting my mind was the KEY to achieve this.
Our journey never ends, and it's a really fun journey to create the life you want.
    What do you desire?
Start by writing it down ✍✍✍

My biggest obstacle to discipline is not being gentle enough in my approach. I sometimes dread doing tasks and setting a routine because I get caught in the weeds and demand perfection, instead of adequacy. This leads to a sense of no end or beginning to the task. For my next goal I will practice assessing the task first and see honestly and realistically what I can do within a set time frame, buffering in time for mistakes.

Absolutely amazing video! Oddly enough Leo, you have the same name as Leo from Zenhabits who I love to read every week so I believe your name is fitting. A quote I use to motivate myself in business is from the 50th Law:
"When you work for others, you are at their mercy. They own your work, they own you. Your creative spirit is squashed. What keeps you in such positions is a fear of having to sink or swim for yourself. Instead you should have a greater fear of what will happen to you if you remain dependent on others for power. Your goal and every maneuver in life must be ownership, working the corner for yourself. When it's yours, it's yours to lose. You are more motivated, more creative, more alive. The ultimate power in life is to be completely self-reliant, completely yourself."
I believe this is someone else's mindset but it's all the same at the end of the day.
Keep being awesome and posting these videos. I'm going to watch some more old videos you have since I discovered your channel recently.

Hi Leo, thanks for this video. It made me realize I seriously need to work on my discipline.
I usually have 5 good days in the week, and 2 bad ones. On the bad days I don't feel like doing anything, so I postpone studying with 1 hour first. This eventually turns in to the whole day. Are there any shortcuts to prevent this from happening?
