I recently beat the Elden Ring DLC using Martial Arts Only (Dryleaf Arts/Dane’s Footwork) check it out here: Elden Ring DLC, But It's Martial Arts Only! ruclips.net/video/-qXCkFgqc5c/видео.html
Thank you so much. This boss sent me on a mission to Miquella's Haligtree, a location I never discovered. Where I took on yet another challenging boss, Malenia. I ended up respecing and using a shield and the sacred relic blade. Took him out after about the 4th time after all of this.
Yeah this boss fight can be a bastard. In my most recent video I did a challenge run of using martial arts only (Dryleaf arts / Dane’s Footwork) and let me tell ya, I never knew how much I relied on my shield to fall back on til I beat the DLC this way LMAO
I actually found out the other night that you can dodge roll through his charge attack LMAO I’m doing a challenge run with no shields or summons, just Dryleaf arts/Dane’s Footwork so dodge rolling is my only defense.
Thank you for another great guide! I didn't end up using the equipment you used (because I would have had to upgrade all weapons and potentially also respec my attributes) but it was very helpful to see his attack patterns. Also seeing you do this in Black Knife Armour gave me a confidence boost. 😂
I just got the Shadow Sunflower Blossom, but to beat Gaius, I had to switch back to my Black Steel Greathammer with Lion's Claw. The Blossom is strong and enjoyably silly, but its skill (weapon art) doesn't stop you from getting knocked around. I went in with the Blossom and max poise possible, including the bullgoat talisman but spent almost the entirety of a few attempts on the ground. However, IIRC, the only things that stop Lion's Claw are procs (hemorrhage and frostbite for example) and death. It doesn't add poise, it just makes you temporarily immune to most (all?) things that poise can protect you from. I think some people call this hyper-armor, as opposed to super-armor, which gives you extra poise or replaces your poise with a huge amount of poise but works within the usual poise system.
That’s exactly why I use Lion’s Claw. You still eat the damage, but you’re gonna deal that damage right back. I love using it because it’s high risk high reward. It’s my favorite ash of war in the game tbh.
It’s an affinity set to it. It’s just the Greatsword with an ash of war set to sacred. You either need an already holy ash of war, the sanctified Whetblade from Leyndell, or holy grease.
If anyone’s having issues with this boss..fighting it as mage with great shield solider ashes is easy mode. I didn’t even learn fight mechanics to cheese it. He just gets agries by the 5 soldiers.
Damn, got him with those old bony dudes first try with my mage. Gerat at kiting this abomination. Lost 700k tunes by wandering cluelessly there but i can make that back fast.
On the Pearl Talisman +3 , you MUST activate the lever that rotates the central mobile (needed to reach final Shadow Keep BOSS fight) before it shows up at the location you indicate in the video.
I don’t use savage because you’ll get hit more often when going into the second stage of the combo, so I like just having the one hit and being able to get back on defense.
Heavy armor, finger shield, simple buffs, tank nearly everything with shield and gaurd counter.... i suck at this game and i did it... so it works. Basically dont dodge except big gravity dive.
Cries in dex build T_T, but I had enough to use the sacred relic sword and with Marika's sorceal I was able to use the regular wooden greatsheild. Thanks for the tips especially the talismans and physic :D
Just curious how did you make it so that things like your Greatsword were sacred? When looking at the ash of war setting I can’t seem to find any sort of holy affinity I could choose. Great vid by the way thanks for the info!
Unfortunately if you’re in the DLC I assume you’ve beaten the game already. BUT, on the off chance you haven’t beaten the game or even Maliketh, (that’s the cutoff), you have to get the sanctified whetblade. Here’s the link on how to get it, but you can’t have beaten Maliketh yet, because you can’t get it after the capital turns to Ashen Capital: eldenring.wiki.fextralife.com/Sanctified+Whetblade
Although an alternative might be to use the incantation or grease that adds holy to the blade as a buff. If you set your Greatsword to just do physical damage, you should be able to apply these
@@Soldier1stClassfortunately enough on my current new game plus I hadn’t fought Maliketh yet and was able to go and grab the whetstone. Just beat commander gaius a few hours ago actually with a slightly altered version of your recommended build. Your advice and recommendations helped a ton!

You can also try dodge rolling through the charge. I learned that during my martial arts only run. If you time it right, you dodge straight through the charge and come out undamaged but it is tricky timing.
If you’re going up the body when you first get to it, you can’t get the talisman. You have to go through the whole area and there’ll be a lever somewhere that moves the whole pillar in the middle of the room around which changes the position of the omen body. Then from the site of grace in the video is where you can get it. But you have to move the middle of the room

I recently beat this fight using Martial Arts Weapons Only, and uh, I didn’t realize you could dodge through the charge attack LMAO so that was a game changer.
It’s just the normal Greatsword with it aspected to sacred. If you’ve already beaten Maliketh, you’ll need to use holy grease or a holy incantation weapon buff to turn it holy. The Greatsword is found near the border of Limgrave and Caelid in a chest on the giant cart in the middle of the road surrounded by dogs, and then the Sanctified Whetstone is found in Leyndell, but only in the normal version. Once you’ve beaten Maliketh, it becomes ashen capital it can’t be gotten anymore.
You need the Sanctified Whetblade from Leyndell. If you’ve already beaten Maliketh though, it’s unavailable. However, if you just aspect your weapon to Heavy or Standard, you can use Holy Grease or the incantation that buffs your weapon with holy for a similar effect.
No problem!! Glad you were able to get it! I’ve got plenty of other guides and have two more releasing this week too. And then I’ve got Rellana, Bayle, Messmer, and Putrescant Knight out so far. When you select your ash of war, there should be an option for sacred if you found the Sanctified Whetblade in the base game. If you didn’t then you’ll need to either get the incantation that gives you holy on your weapon, or use grease but your weapon has to be set to only do physical damage if you want to use those.

You can try using the stonebarb cracked tear in your physick but you’ll either have to sacrifice the light equip load or the holy boost. The SB Cracked tear gives you added stagger chance.
Your main stats to worry about for this build would be endurance, strength and dexterity. 25 Faith minimum to use the two buffs I use, and 12 INT if you want to use the shield spell. So I’d say roughly 60 vigor, 60 strength, and at least 30 endurance if you can manage it levels wise. Not sure if that math adds up cause I’m just pulling it off the top of my head, but those are the stats you really wanna focus on. It also wouldn’t hurt to level up. Going with meta level is only gonna make this DLC that much harder but if that’s what you’re into, go for it lmao
Whe you guys gonna learn to STOP using slashing weapons and swords against armored and heavily armored enemies?!!! Use the giant crusher and crush that boss like a bug
for me it's because strike weapons make me stupid. Like not even "unga bunga caveman brain" meme but actually reckless. I then unnecessarily just jump R2 them cos I really want that riposte Shield + rapier makes me too defensive, strike weapons makes me too offensive It's a mentality issue for me tbh

this boss has the worst hitboxes ive ever seen in a video game my god. overall worst boss in a souls game ever
I still think Bed of Chaos takes that on annoyance alone lmao but yeah, this boss can definitely be bad.
@@Soldier1stClass LMAOO nah you right
Just kept stunning him with fire knights greatsword
Nice! Congrats on the win!
Can you give me Stats for level 150 pls
Your main stats to worry about for this build would be endurance, strength and dexterity. 25 Faith minimum to use the two buffs I use, and 12 INT if you want to use the shield spell. So I’d say roughly 60 vigor, 60 strength, and at least 30 endurance if you can manage it levels wise. Not sure if that math adds up cause I’m just pulling it off the top of my head, but those are the stats you really wanna focus on. It also wouldn’t hurt to level up. Going with meta level is only gonna make this DLC that much harder but if that’s what you’re into, go for it lmao
@@Soldier1stClass damnn fast reply thank you so much
You’re welcome! I try to help as much as possible. As for the reply, I just happened to be looking at my phone when the notification popped up lmao
THAAAANK YOU OMGOMGOGMGOMGOM IT TOOK ME LESS THEN 4MIN TO FINALLY GET HIM OOOOOOOH IT FEELS SOOO GOOOOOOOD
You’re very welcome! Congrats on the W!!
Whe you guys gonna learn to STOP using slashing weapons and swords against armored and heavily armored enemies?!!! Use the giant crusher and crush that boss like a bug
Didn’t stop me from destroying him so why would I stop now lmao
for me it's because strike weapons make me stupid.
Like not even "unga bunga caveman brain" meme but actually reckless. I then unnecessarily just jump R2 them cos I really want that riposte
Shield + rapier makes me too defensive, strike weapons makes me too offensive
It's a mentality issue for me tbh
First!
🎉🎉
This is worse than the that broken camera hippo boss.
I honestly found the hippo to be way worse for me
lol wow sad build. why do you even bother playing the game?
